Community News Are you over 40? Do you feel a little unfit, lacking exercise and don’t know what to do about it? Perhaps you feel that

signing up for a gym membership is not for you, but you want to try something a bit different that’s not too strenuous? Isle Dance for Health could be just the thing for you – as funded by a North Lincolnshire Council Community Grant Programme. After the outstanding success of the first three programmes of country dances held in Westwoodside, Epworth and Crowle, local folk dance band Lys St Georges are gearing up for another programme of 9 dances starting on 2 October. These are some comments about our programme: A brilliant idea. Good way of keeping fit and socialising. Well organised and dances to suit most people. Loved the live music. Great fun, relaxed friendly atmosphere and people. No pressure, lots of encouragement. This has been one the most enjoyable experiences – friendship, conviviality, fun! Really hope the format is able to continue – think the proof of its popularity is in the numbers attending each week! Many thanks. This has been a great way to exercise. Much more fun than keep fit. Very good treatment – exercise, good laugh, meet new people. Should be on prescription. Thank you Thursday Thursday Thursday Thursday Thursday Thursday Thursday Thursday Thursday

Crowle & Ealand Heritage Society are looking for help in pulling together information on soldiers from Crowle and Ealand who served in the First World War. Our speaker in

November will be Paul Connel, originally from Crowle, whose talk will look at the men of Crowle & Ealand whose names are listed (and some whose names have been omitted) on the war memorials, their lives before enlisting and the actions they were involved in - not just where they died. In addition there will be stories about other local soldiers who served during the war, and tales of conscientious objectors. However he is also looking for further information and stories to build on his knowledge. The society would also like to build on the information that is collected for the talk use this to develop an exhibition sometime next year. If you have any information or artefacts that would support such an exhibition please can you contact the society chairman Angus Townley. angus@townley.com or 01724 711191 Programme of talks to Christmas is as follows; Thursday 9th October 2014 – The History of St Norberts, Alan Gidney. St Norbert's Church in Crowle was built in 1872 to serve the needs of the local Roman Catholic Community. Alan will provide a lot of insight into the intriguing history of the church and Crowle's link to a Belgian Abbey. Thursday 13th November 2014, Soldiers of Crowle & Ealand in the 1st World War, Paul Connel – The talk will look at the men of Crowle & Ealand whose names are listed (and some whose names have been omitted) on the war memorials, their lives before enlisting and the actions they were involved in - not just where they died. In addition there will be stories about other local soldiers who served during the war, and tales of conscientious objectors. We hope to be able to pull together an exhibition based about the Soldiers of Crowle & Ealand and would be grateful for any additional information that Crowle residents may have. NEW CLP CHAIR At a recent meeting of the Brigg & Goole Labour Party, local campaigner Paul McCartan was elected Chair of the Party. Paul said, he was delighted to take up the role, the constituency is more varied than most with its collection of town, villages, rural and urban areas stretches from the Isle of Axholme, Goole & marshes, Burringham, Keadby across through Winterton, Broughton and Brigg with everywhere in between. This means it has a bit of everything so there is never a dull moment. We have many good local candidates across the patch and i am excited to be working with our Perspective Parliamentary Candidate, Jacky Crawford (pictured with) as part of an active listening local team. Because of the makeup of the area it means there is lots to do, unlike others we have no access to expenses, offices or staff to be able to make this happen and rely completely on an army of volunteers to help and very grateful to this growing number of people. The momentum is building in the campaign as people feel the social injustice of the current government is just wrong and national treasures such as the NHS should not be at risk of being sold as happens every time with most services under a Conservative led government. I recognise that people are turned off by politics, that they feel no-one listens any more but each of us can and must be the change and together we can make things happen, lets never give up on hope. If you want to know more or get involved then contact me on paulmccartan@yahoo.com, visit http:// www.briggandgoole.co.uk/ or call Jacky on 07704 025309.

Silver Sucess for Crowle Cadet Following on from her successes at both Wing and Region levels, Crowle Air Cadet A Mason (14) recently represented North Region in the Air Training Corps Athletics competition, achieving a Silver in her event. Cadet Mason represented Crowle air Cadets at the South and West Yorkshire Wing Athletics competition. The event sees all the Squadrons in South and West Yorkshire Wing, 33 in total, compete in numerous athletic disciplines. During the event she attained Gold in the 100m and 200m sprint and Gold in the long jump. As such she was selected to represent South and West Yorkshire Wing in the North Region competition. The North Region competition sees the best athletes from the 5 Wings in the North of England compete. Competitions at this level are generally considered to be the best within their Wing, so to be selected to compete is a real achievement. Cadet Mason achieved a Silver in her 200m sprint and a Gold in her 100m sprint. As such she was asked to represent North Region in the Air Training Corps athletics competition. The Corps competition sees the best athletes from the 6 Regions that cover the whole of the UK compete. Cadet Mason was asked to represent North Region in the 100m sprint and achieved a Silver. This effectively places her second in the Air Training Corps for her age group in the 100m sprint. A great achievement for both Cadet Mason, Crowle Air Cadets, South and West Yorkshire Wing and North Region. Flying Officer V Docherty, Sports Officer for Crowle Air Cadets, said “Cadet Mason’s achievement is fantastic. To come second in the whole Air Training Corps is a massive achievement. The Squadron are really proud of her and look forward to next year’s competition, where we hope she will do as well or better” Athletics and sport are just a few of the many opportunities Crowle Squadron offers to its members, both cadets and staff. Air Cadets is a youth organisation open to anyone aged 13-17. It is also open to those over 20 who wish to join as a staff and assist in the running of such events If you are interested in finding out more about Air Cadets in Crowle visit us as www.crowleaircadets.co.uk or come down to the Cadet Hut, Axholme Academy site on a Monday or Wednesday evening.
