The three priorities for the North Axholme Ward are
Potts Lane car park Crowle- Anti-social behaviour and vehicle nuisance.
This location continues to be a problem area where bored mainly local youths are congregating and behaving in an antisocial manner. Some of the youths are in vehicles and complaints have been received regarding the manner in which some of these vehicles are being driven on their frequent laps of the town. A Dispersal Order under the Anti-Social PCSO PCSO 7576 PC1717 Behaviour Act 2003 was granted for this area and surrounding Wendy Frear Paul Fearon Graham Godley th roads which came into force from the 19 July 2010. This order has given the Police the power to move groups from this problem area. This order is working well within this area and positive feedback has been received from local residents. There is a continued police presence in this area and this order is being pro-actively policed. At the present time there has been a reduction in police calls for service regarding this issue.
St Oswalds Church gardens Church Street Crowle – Youths causing annoyance and anti-social
behaviour. One of the problems with moving youths on from Potts Lane car park results in displacing them to cause nuisance/ annoyance at other locations and to other residents. This would appear to be the case with St Oswalds Church gardens. The dispersal order also includes the church yard. As above regular police patrols monitor this area. Two Keadby males were dealt with after reports were received of Nuisance motorcycles in the Chapel Lane area of the village. Both motorcycles were seized and the riders were summonsed to court for Road Traffic Offences. A further motor vehicle was seized in the Keadby area after it was discovered the driver did not hold a current driving licence. They have been summonsed for Road Traffic Offences.
Good News Story The Rescue Day held at 7 Lakes park on Saturday 10th July 2010 saw over 15,000 people attend the event and support essential fundraising for the charities involved – Help for Heroes, The British Heart Foundation, LIVES and Lindsey Lodge Hospice. Massive thanks to all who contributed and visited the site on the day. The final sum of monies raised is not yet known but when announced will be released to local press. We are already underway with plans for next years which already looks to be bigger and better, so we hope to see you there Thank you to everybody concerned Working with Pc Graham Godley are your Police Community Support Officers Paul Fearon and Wendy Frear who regularly patrols the North Ward area of the Isle and will be happy to discuss any community issues with you. Please feel free to stop and speak with them or alternatively contact either of us via 0845 60 60 222 or by e-mail graham.godley, paul.fearon or wendy.frear @humberside.pnn.police.uk.

The Isle of Axholme
Where You Live
Your Local History
Adapted by Anthony Catherall The Drainage of the Isle (continued)
In 1636 the commoners of Epworth protested to the local commissioners about their allocation of only 6,000 acres. The disputes were referred to the Attorney General John Banks, who allocated a further1, 000 acres. This far from satisfied the commoners who claimed all 13,000 acres under John de Mowbray’s Deed. Violence broke out again. William Torksey, Hezekiah Brown, John Moody and Henry Scott were arrested and find £1000,00 by the Court of Star Chamber in London. After this, peace reigned in the Isle until 1642 with the outbreak of Civil War. The Islonians sided with parliament and again tried to eject the Participants. Violence broke out and floodgates, sluices and banks were broken down. Soon there was complete chaos. The Sheriff of Lincoln arrived with 100 men to protect the Participants. Daniel Noddell raised 400 men. Defeated the Sheriff and drove him out. With the King gone and Parliament ruling, the Islonians might have expected a return to the land, but in 1650 when the case was again raised in London, Parliament sided with the Participants. The Islonians obtained the support of John Wildman and John Lilbourne (Freeborn John), two leaders of the Levellers, an extreme revolutionary group with strong socialist views. They encouraged the riotous Islonians to impound the enemies’ cattle and demand extortionate fees for redemption. Major-General Edward Whalley arrived to put down the riots. This was only temporary. Nathaniel Reading, an agent of the Participants, now became the object of the commoners’ fury. He was paid £200,00 a year plus costs. There were thirty-one set battles between Reading and the commoners. The Participants were unable to pay Reading and so as compensation, they gave him the lease of Epworth Manor right in the middle of his enemies. In 1694 and 1697 his property was attacked and burnt by a mob led by Katherine Popplewell. The Riot Act of 1715 and the presence of soldiers of Lieutenant-Colonel Robert Reading eventually brought peace to the Area. Thus ended almost 100 years of turmoil and violence. Legal processes were also used by the commoners to seek justice. The Vavasour family and Robert Popplewell acted for the commoners in court. Besides the legal action mentioned, in 1691 the case raised again in London and the 1636 decision was set aside and a more favourable offer made to the commoners. However in 1719 the commoner’s case was finally dismissed before the court of Chancery.

Rescue Day 2010 which took place on Saturday the 10th of July was without doubt an outstanding success. Attendance figures surpassed all expectation, we do not have exact figures, however, we believe they exceeded 15,000. Feed back we have received to date from all concerned has been extremely positive, both exhibitors and members of the public have stated that they had a most informative and enjoyable day. The main objectives for the day was to raise safety awareness to members of the public by providing displays such as Water Rescue demonstrations and Road Traffic Collision exercises, along with raising funds for Help for Heroes and other charities such Lindsey Lodge, LIVES, and the British Heart Foundation. Our objectives were met in full throughout the day with both arenas providing informative and demonstrative displays, additionally Lincolnshire, South Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Services along with Humberside Police, East Midlands Ambulance Service, Sheffield Hallam University and other organisations such as the British Heart Foundation, LIVES, Coast Guard, Doncaster Sub Aqua Club all provided displays, information and talks to the public which all contributed immensely to the days success. Donations are still being counted with more money yet to be accrued (Auction Items) which will be auctioned on the evening of the Raft race (24 th July 2010) and the Pink Ball (7th August 2010) as such an exact figure will be promulgated shortly after August the 7 th 2010. The extreme challenge (Cross Country run) which took place on the morning of Rescue Day which provided 128 entrants with mud, water, bog obstacles and more mud proved very challenging, however, indications are that the event was very different though really enjoyable and delivered a real sense of achievement by all who took part . The invaluable assistance from Dave Tune (Metres to Miles) cannot be understated and all who helped, which was very much appreciated. The Aerial displays provided by 202 Squadron, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (Spitfire) along with the Police and Lincolnshire Air Ambulance Helicopters were absolutely superb and once again feed back has been excellent on all counts. The Red Devils conducted an outstanding Parachute display culminating into a water drop and rescue by Humber Rescue, Doncaster and Thorne Sub Aqua clubs ably assisted by the 7 Lakes rescue team on Jet Skis. The Red Devils then met with the public signing autographs and providing photo opportunities All organisations and personnel taking part should be extremely proud of their contribution and on behalf of the Rescue Day Committee and for the record I would like to express my thanks to them. It would be remiss of me not to mention all those volunteer and youth organisations who also contributed significantly to the events overall success such as FODSA, the Army and Navy cadets, Lost and Lonely Scooters along with the Staff at 7 Lakes Country Park all of which I am very grateful to, as such I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation and thanks. It is recognised that the hard work applied by the Rescue Day committee to the planning and delivery of the event was by and large outside their Day Job and again I am very grateful to all for their dedication in their application to Rescue Day along with their contribution in making it a resounding success. Whilst I would not want to single out anyone in particular several members of the committee most certainly went beyond the call of duty and some, they know who they are and for that and to them I am internally grateful. Finally I would like to take the opportunity to pass on sincere thanks to local residents and all those attending from the public for coming to Rescue Day for their understanding regarding additional traffic build up and your cooperation and in making the event a fantastic and enjoyable day. John Armson

CROWLE & EALAND TOWN COUNCIL NEWSLETTER ISSUE 7
The market place. Now that the contractors have cleared the market place we have the opportunity of experiencing a new civic space in which it is proposed to stage a number of different events, these will be advertised in due time and will take the form of markets, and assemblies of formal and informal bodies. It is hoped that these occasions will help to stimulate the local economy and draw visitors to the area. As the first phase of the market place development is completed plans are being laid for phase 2 where it is hoped a range of new buildings will be sited at the northern end of the market place. Grants from both North Lincs Council and monies from European sources can be made available if Crowle and Ealand Town Council are prepared to "pump-prime" this development with their own investment, which could take the form of a new council office situated on the ground floor of a two floor building with the council attracting rent from the letting of the upstairs accommodation. Details of the costings involved can be seen at the Council Office in Fieldside on Tuesdays and Thursdays whilst the town clerk is in attendance. Allotments The allotments sited opposite Don Farm are now in operation and it is planned to hold an Open Day on August 28th. During the Open Day arrangements have been made to hold the official 'Opening Ceremony' at 10.30a.m. When the Mayor and North Lincolnshire Parks Superintendant will be in attendance, a tree will also be planted in commemoration of the event. The transformation that has taken place over the past weeks is remarkable with a good variety of crops being grown and the allotments looking well looked after and organised so that there is adequate access to and from Individual plots, a credit to the committee and the promise of more to come in the future. Visitors to the Open Day are encouraged to come and have a good look round, there will be plenty to see and people to chat with and there are still two plots left if you are tempted to join. For further details contact: The Secretary North Axholme Allotment Society: Eric Dinsdale 01724 712592. Surgery Dates These councillor surgeries are your opportunity to voice your concerns: whether you are concerned about local transport issues, rented accommodation, local services etc. The more feedback the Council have the more effectively it can discharge its responsibilities. Surgeries take place on the following dates between 10.00a.m. and 12.00 noon: 28th August - No Council Surgery this month 25th September 30th October 27th November 14 Please mention “The Arrow

Town Plan. On July 14th a public meeting was held at the Community Hall to discuss the matter of producing a Town Plan. This is a document produced by members of the public to promote the interests of the community by researching the problems which local people experience in relation to: housing, transport, schools, medical services, recreational facilities etc. It is then, guided by public opinion, that recommendations for future developments can be made. The meeting successfully attracted a sufficient number of the public to proceed with a further meeting to select a steering committee whose responsibility it would be to produce the Town Plan and guide its implementation. Peter Hirschfield from Humber and Wolds Rural Community Council was there to pilot people through the procedure of forming a Town Plan and showed examples produced by other communities in North Lincolnshire. Councillor Attendance Figures. Elected councilors to Crowle Town Council are required to attend council meetings on a regular basis and the following chart records attendances and absences during the period May ’09 to April ‘2010. The chart does not show reasons for absence nor does it include attendances on Council Sub-committees or other meetings where councilors represent Crowle Town Council in the business of other organisations.

Half-Term Holiday Fun at Althorpe and Keadby Primary School On Thursday, 3rd June Althorpe and Keadby Primary school held another Half-Term Holiday Activity Day. Over 30 pupils participated in the day’s activities with all three sessions proving equally popular. Football in the Community worked their magic, encouraging pupils aged between 3 and 11 to get fit and have lots of fun outdoors. Jo Miller, from 20-21, inspired our children to work with clay to produce some super work along the theme of Tiki Warriors and, in the afternoon sunshine, The Epworth Coaches played a variety of games, ranging from cricket and rounders to tug-of -war. As always, the children behaved well, played fair and had a wonderful day.

The Maker’s Instructions I bought a new mobile telephone this week. Spurred on by Tesco’s doubling my Clubcard points, I went with family advisers to see what to get. Home I came, carrying my brand new touchscreen mobile with pride. I left the package unopened in the lounge deliberately. I knew my teenage son would soon come to sort me out. He got the mobile working, showed my wife what to do – I was napping – and left us to it. Could we fathom it out? We couldn’t even unlock it. So we did what we always do with every new appliance – asked for an explanation not just a demonstration. The Maker’s instructions remain unread. Jesus Christ left us our Maker’s Instructions which we know as The Bible. Sadly, we often leave it unread. In order to work out everything my mobile will do, I will have to read the Maker’s Instructions thoroughly, several times, whilst trying to make the functions work. I apply the same rules to my life. I read the Maker’s Instructions, and try to follow them. The Churches and Chapels will soon start celebrating Harvest Festival. The Harvest season lasts several weeks and enables us to fulfil at least one of the Maker’s Instructions – to be thankful to God for everything – cars, homes, brand new mobiles as well as food. Watch out for local advertising at a Church near you!

Flowers for Someone Special
Do you know someone special? Someone who has gone the extra mile for others or someone who just deserves something nice. I would like to nominate Mr Geoff Moore from Eastoft. Geoff is one of the kindest gentleman I know. He is the local taxi driver, who I can recommend highly and Geoff goes that extra mile whilst doing his day to day job. When going on holiday Geoff always ensures your house is safe and locked, he also asks you if you would like an early morning call for those early starts at the airport. Geoff also sends you a text on your return to say he is at the airport waiting. Geoff is totally reliable, kind at heart and you couldn't wish for a better person. Thank you Linda O’Connor The Arrow and Jackie’s Floral Designs would love to send someone special a bouquet. Listen to Trax FM in the morning to hear the nominations. Let us know who they are and why they deserve a bouquet. Contact
