Are you over 40? Do you feel a little unfit, lacking exercise and don’t know what to do about it?
This has been one the most enjoyable experiences – friendship, conviviality, fun! Really hope the format is able to continue – think the proof of its popularity is in the numbers attending each week! Many thanks.
Perhaps you feel that signing up for a gym membership is not for you, but you want to try something a bit different that’s not too strenuous? Isle Dance for Health could be just the thing for you – as funded by North Lincolnshire NHS (under its Community Public Health Improvement Programme).
This has been a great way to exercise. Much more fun than keep fit. Very good treatment – exercise, good laugh, meet new people. Should be on prescription. Thank you
After the outstanding success of its first programme of country dances held in Westwoodside, Epworth and Crowle this Spring, local folk dance band Lys St Georges are gearing up for another programme of 9 dances starting in September. Some of the dancers said at the end of the Spring 2013 programme: It has been a great time being with others and having fun and exercise. Loved the live music. Great fun, relaxed friendly atmosphere and people. No pressure, lots of encouragement. A brilliant idea. Good way of keeping fit and socialising. Well organised and dances to suit most people. Most enjoyable, good fun, great teacher, super LIVE music. Thanks
Dates and locations for all of the new dances are: Thursday 29 September
Westwoodside Village Hall
Thursday 3 October Thursday 10 October Tuesday 15 October Tuesday 29 October
Westwoodside Village Hall Westwoodside Village Hall Epworth Imperial Hall Epworth Imperial Hall
Each dance starts at 2.30pm and lasts for 2 hours. You don’t need a partner nor any experience in Country Dancing and the dances will be suitable for all levels of fitness. There will be a small admission charge of £2 for each dance. Look out for more local publicity or contact Peter Barnard on 01427 873937

The Apple of Your Isle As the stifling heat of July has given way to more bearable temperatures in the latter part of the summer it is time for gardeners and apple growers to check how well their apple crop is looking. Do you have apples and pears in your garden that you don’t know what to do with? Are you fed up with making yet more apple pies or apple chutney? Well, a group of fruit growers in the Isle of Axholme formed the Apple of Your Isle last year to help prevent all that fruit going to waste, We are bringing you the chance to turn your own apples – and pears – into juice using your equipment. As well as the fun of doing that, you get the added bonus of taking your own juice home! After the success of the Apple Pressing Days last year, we have organised another 2 Apple Pressing Days this year. The first is at 1 Battle Green, Epworth DN9 1JT on Saturday 28 th of September, and the second on Saturday 19th of October at Orchard House, 11 Commonside, Crowle DN17 4EX. They each run from 10am to 4pm. You will be able to take your fruit along at a pre-booked time and be shown how to press it into juice. You can then carry out the whole process yourself. And then the best part of all - you will be able to take away the juice and drink it at home. And all for a nominal fee of £5 for a half hour. Members of the group will be on hand at the Apple Pressing Days to help and guide you and also to talk about the process for making and storing apple juice. They will also happily talk about how to turn your juice into cider. You will be able to buy apple produce and see apple recipes. Alternatively, you might like to hire our apple press and scratter so that you can press your own fruit at home. For more details of these events and the costs and arrangements for hiring our equipment, please contact Peter Barnard on 0147 873937. Members of the group will be demonstrating how to press apples at the Festival of The Plough on Sunday 15th of September. Why not come along and see how it is done and taste the end result? Starting in October Peter will be writing a monthly piece for the Arrow and he will be looking at the work to be done each month and the challenges and excitements of growing your own apples and pears.

Crowle & Ealand Town Council NOTICE OF VACANCY IN OFFICE OF PARISH COUNCILLOR Notice is hereby given that due to the resignation of Deborah Ann Fowler, a casual vacancy has arisen in the Office of Parish Councillor for the Parish. Please contact the Town Clerk Mrs Kate Fowler for information, this is a voluntary unpaid position.
Community Worker—George Edwards.
You may have spotted George out and about colleting litter, repairing benches and locking up the parks George has been contracted by Crowle & Ealand Council. We listened to our community volunteers who told us Manor Park , the Skate Park and Ealand Park were in real need of someone to share the load. George works Monday to Friday leaving volunteers to cover weekends and holidays. He has already made considerable progress in repairing and maintaining the cemetery benches and will continue to recondition other community benches. He also undertakes the weekly inspections on the parks ensuring that the equipment is in a good state of repair and collecting any dangerous items such as broken glass. As ever we remind all parents that their children play at their own risk, especially when they are left unsupervised. We as a council undertake regular checks to help our community spaces be as safe as is reasonably practicable but this does not guarantee that dangerous litter items may have been left 5 minutes after George has carried out his checks. Please encourage your children and young people to play safely and dispose of litter responsibly.
MARKETPLACE DEVELOPMENT I am sure no one will have missed the diggers in the marketplace which sets the second phase of the Marketplace development of and running. Remember the plans were provided by North Lincs Council when the 1st stage was undertaken and are still available in the Library and the Town Council Office should you wish to see them.

Father Christmas made a surprise early visit to Crowle and Ealand in July to help the Crowle Christmas Lights Committee advertise the Crowle Show and raise vital funds for this year's lights display and switch-on event. The committee also attended Crowle Show and ran a prize board. Thanks to the generosity of the community ÂŁ313 was raised over the 2 days. The funds will be used to improve this year's lights display and contribute towards the standard running costs. Watch out for details of our Christmas bingo taking place in October and keep Saturday 7th December free for this year's Christmas Lights switch-on. We are a very small committee and are always looking for more members and helpers. If you would like to know more or fancy joining us, our next meeting is taking place at Crowle Fire Station on Monday 2nd September. Dawn Da Costa Secretary 07811 323 449

A large party of members of the Epworth and District Flower Club met near Rotherham on a beautiful July evening to visit Winthrop Park. Some months earlier the group had listened to an illustrated talk about the conception and development of the facility and arrangements were made for the visit. The publicity for the garden states that it “has been created from a former sewage treatment works” and was inspired by a local couple who “sought to bring…nature therapy to others in the community.” After a welcome the group divided into two and was conducted around by two of the founders. We began by visiting the sensory garden and immediately experienced the beautiful perfume of roses. Our guide explained how the garden was created to be wheelchair friendly and how plants of varying textures had been selected. Original professional advice had suggested plants should be placed in colour blocks which are pleasing to the eye. This was obvious but so too, on such a beautiful evening, was the variety of shades of green in the plants, shrubs and trees. We were told about some glass ornaments which had been loaned originally but Shh! no-one returned to reclaim them and the tale behind two rather large stone features which stood amongst the wonderful delphiniums and had been given by a quarry at Ulley. Recycling has been a major part of the philosophy of the park and paths and stone edges have been reused. A “sculpture” garden has been created in one area and it was built on the top of a buried car. When presumably a window broke in the submerged vehicle so an area of the garden sank too! A stone sculpture has been donated in the shape of a “pinecone” but not an immediately obvious variety, a Lawson’s cypress cone. We were told about a blind visitor who enjoyed touching the twisted willow and we saw a red breeze block wall which was suggested for those with visual impairment. The wall was fronted with some beautifully manicured trees and its other side was used to create a wonderful rockery with a water feature flowing through it. Further areas of the garden followed different themes. One area housed a rather large and fascinating elephant, another was on a Japanese theme, a sheepdog and a sheep played on a wonderfully tended lawn and finally we spiralled through the New Zealand garden which was created to encourage the idea of ferns unfurling. Then there was a little time to shop in the craft and Old Curiosity shops before gathering for a delicious tea. Debbie Beecher expressed the thanks of the group and spoke everyone’s thoughts when she told our host how she had undersold the garden when she had been to visit and talk to our group. The garden is open to the public between 1st April and 31st October daily except Saturday and has no admission fee. It comes highly recommended and it is difficult to believe it was created from dereliction and after adversity. The Epworth and District Flower Club will next meet in the usual place in Haxey, The Stephen Jones Community Hall at 7.30 on Monday, 9th September when Val Dukes will demonstrate on the theme “Naughty Ladies”. The October meeting on 14th will be a workshop and on November 11th we hold our annual Open Meeting with a national demonstrator on the theme “Autumn into Christmas” All are welcome to join us.
