Welcome to the September issue of Crowle and Ealand Arrow. It’s being a hard year for students with the pandemic, zoom lessons and the uncertainty of knowing if they will sit exams or not. We do hope all your hard work paid off when collecting your GCSE and A level results. I know as a parent myself the anticipation and anxiety at these times are great. Even if the results were not what you expected, it's good to remember this is just a steppingstone in life and everyone has a future! The deadline for the October issue is Friday 10th September for delivery by Wednesday 1st October. Enjoy the read and stay safe!

Humberside Police - Youth Independent Advisory Group We are pleased to announce a new opportunity for young adults aged 16 – 24 to get involved with Humberside Police and support their communities. In order to better understand how we can work with our communities we are inviting young adults to join our Youth Independent Advisory Group (Youth IAG). The aim is to involve young adults on a voluntary basis as part of these groups. We are looking to involve members from all communities that cover the Humberside Police geographical area all the way from Bridlington to Goole to Scunthorpe and Immingham. Who can be part of the Youth IAG? Youth IAG members are members of the public who have an interest in how policing works and how this impacts on their community. Members are not expected to be a spokesperson for any particular group of people but should bring their own personal experiences and perspectives to the Youth IAG. In order to help us better understand our communities IAG’s should have members reflecting the diversity of the local people that Humberside Police serve which may include the following areas (but not limited to): The Youth IAG helps give young people a voice and the chance to inform and shape how we support those who live in the Humberside Area. We are keen to make sure the Youth IAG is representative of all our communities so welcome young people from all backgrounds and who share the aims of the Youth IAG which are to: -

    

Age Disability Gender Geography Isolated communities

 

Create and encourage an open discussion with our diverse communities

   

Provide young adults with the opportunity to help shape how we support everyone in the Humberside Area



Get young people involved in developing our policies and procedures and make them suitable for all

 

Improve how we work with young adults across the force

Give young people the skills to help them work with us to create resilient communities Provide young adults with the chance to speak freely and act as a “critical friend” and help us improve and grow alongside our communities If you would like further information please contact your local Community Cohesion Officer PC 1264 Gul or SPOCYouthIAG@humberside.pnn.police.uk

Congratulations to the class of 2021! In extremely challenging times we are delighted that our Year 13 students have received amazing results this year. Their hard work and dedication has been recognised with some stunning A Level and vocational results! The 6th form continues to provide an outstanding offer of academic and pastoral support that allows our students to thrive. It was fantastic to see our students this morning and we wish them well at University or as they move into employment. Mr Barlow Principal South Axholme Academy Pathfinders ..... great walks on the footpaths & byways all around us

Three times a week we set out in a small friendly group for a 4-6 mile walk ( sometimes a bit more ) going all over The Isle & sometimes a bit beyond too . Every walk is chosen to explore somewhere new , trying not to repeat a route we’ve done before , so there’s usually a surprise to be found en-route

Recent walks have taken us to Crowle , Langholme , Misson , West Butterwick , Cantley , Haxey , Rossington , Epworth , Clayworth , Blaxton , Thorne , Doncaster , Finningley , Wroot , Misterton , Garthorpe ..... & many more besides.

You don’t need to be super fit for these walks, just be able & properly dressed for a brisk countryside walk , always finishing by lunchtime .... we don’t like to get wet through , but sometimes the weather isn’t kind so we do go prepared.

Come and join us ! ..... maybe discover some of the Isle you didn’t know about !! For details e-mail to

Belton and Epworth Cub Scouts Achieve Highest Award Possible but More Help Needed On a warm summer’s night in July, Molly, Joseph, Jayden, Abi and Oscar, all aged between 8 and 10 and a half, were presented with the highest honour Cub Scouts can achieve, the Chief Scout’s Silver Award. It can only be gained by a Cub who completes each of the World, Personal, Skills, Adventure, Outdoor, Teamwork, and Team Leader Challenge Badges, as well as at least six Activity or Staged Activity Badges and takes around 2-years to achieve. Even more amazing is that the group continued to work towards the award despite moving to meetings over Zoom and making dens in their bedroom instead of in the forest. The group were given their prestigious award, with certificates to follow in the post, on the night by Leader Jane Large who said, “It’s an absolute pleasure to give out this award, you’ve all done a marvellous job and I’ve enjoyed working with you all.” Unfortunately Ellis, who had also achieved his award, couldn’t make the event. The group will now have the opportunity to work towards their Gold Award as they move up to Scouts in September. There were big goodbyes and bigger congratulations as the Cub Scouts celebrated their achievement with pass the parcel and hotdogs in the picturesque setting of Primrose Hill Scout Camp in Scunthorpe, where the group spend each summer term. From September, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts will once again be based at Belton Pavilion, with sessions taking place each Tuesday evening during term time. Jane says, “I’ve been a Leader for 2-years and was previously an Assistant Leader for five. Right now, each section of the Scouts, from Beavers upward, could really do with more adult volunteers. Even if you can’t come every week, we’d be happy to talk about part time opportunities.” Before retirement, Jane had previously worked with children with special needs, but she says there’s no skill or ability needed. Just the want to work with children and to go through a DBS check. She said, “All our volunteers love the reward of seeing the children grow, learning new skills yourself and being a part of the community. Plus, we offer training also, so come along and learn how to get the best out of adults and young people.” For parent helpers Jo Dent and Emma Gill, their Tuesday evenings aren’t just about the children, they enjoy new experiences themselves too. Emma said, “It’s so nice to come here because there’s a sense of freedom in the forest and we get to experience things we’re not used to doing. I’ve learned so many life skills, Jane has a wealth of experience that she’s able to share and plus, it gets the kids away from screens.” Jo agrees, “The children learn together in groups of 6 where they have the opportunity to learn leadership skills and meet others from different backgrounds. I’d say being a part of Scouts has something to offer for anyone plus as a Mum of two boys, I get a chance to spend time with both girls and boys which is great.” Looking around the woods they both agree, there’s not many groups that have access to places like this. If you’re interested in helping out with Beavers, Cubs or Scouts, please email Jane Large at beltonandepworthcubs@outlook.com. Beavers, Cubs and Scouts return to Belton Pavilion on Tuesday 7th September.

1st Belton and Epworth Scouts Raise Over £1000 Through 10-Mile Sponsored Walk Around Scunthorpe It’s not just the Cubs and Beavers that have had a busy week as last weekend the Scouts took part in a 10mile hike to raise much-needed funds for important activities and equipment. While the group at 1st Belton and Epworth Scouts had decided on other ways to raise money, such as a car wash, litter picking and a cake sale, due to Covid restrictions first up was the 10-mile sponsored walk around Scunthorpe’s Ironstone Way. Despite only setting out with an initial hope of raising £600, or £50 per person, the group of 12 has gone on to smash their target, with an incredible £1,140 donated already. Most of which has already gone towards several new tents, Autumn Camp, other activities and a fun day out at Hatfield Water Park. Leader John Anderton believes it’s the most amount of money ever raised by the group in one go and has gone one further by promising the Scouts that he will walk the 50-mile Peatlands Way next weekend to continue their fundraising efforts. John said, “The Scouts have done a phenomenal job in raising money for activities and equipment by completing a sponsored 10-mile walk. As a community group, we wanted to make sure that we were visible in the community, either fundraising or by doing a volunteering commitment. Sadly, during the pandemic we were unable to do anything like this due to various lockdowns. “Our current equipment looks a little tired and needed replacing to make sure that the camp continues to stay enjoyable and fun. Plus, the Scouts want to earn more badges through external activities and sadly the subs charged don’t always cover that. The sponsored walk will go towards their fundraising badge as they have planned an event, raised money and seen it through.” Scouting opportunities are currently open to boys and girls aged between 10 ½ and 14-years old. For more information on what the Scouts do next and to keep sponsoring the group through their activities you can find out more information via their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/1stBeltonEpworthScouts and fundraising page: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/beltonandepworthscouts or email: beltonandepworthscouts@outlook.com
