Editors Letter.... Christmas is a time of great celebration, particularly for kids who, normally, are the main beneficiaries of so many presents that they don't know what to do with them! For adults it is often an occasion for taking holidays from work, and spending time with the family. Despite the fact that Winter has well and truly made its presence felt , it is also a 'feel good' time of year for many people. One of the great things about this time of year is that it gives us the excuse to exchange positive pleasantries with people we might barely know, and possibly to say really nice things to people we know very well. So remember the people in your area who are on their own this Christmas, make an effort to visit and say ‗Merry Christmas‘. Did you know that Boxing Day originated under Queen Victoria when trades people collected their Christmas Boxes or bonuses for their hard work throughout the year?

I am sure there are many Christmas events this year, there is a Christmas Market in the new Crowle market Square on Saturday 11 December. If you haven't seen the new square, be sure to make a visit. Don't forget to watch out for Father Christmas on his sleigh who will travel the Isle throughout December, a well worth charity by the Lions.

News, News, News, News, News, News... The Trolleybus Museum at Sandtoft has been officially ‗Accredited‘ by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA). The Trolleybus Museum at Sandtoft is home to the world‘s largest collection of preserved trolleybuses, opening selected weekends throughout the year. Visitors on open days can take a journey back in time on one of many finely preserved working trolleybuses in the collection. Visitors can also wallow in the nostalgia of our 1950‘s/60‘s pre-fab bungalow and shop window displays and discover the various exhibits which extend well beyond the transport theme. The MLA‘s Museum Accreditation Scheme sets nationally agreed standards for all museums in the UK. The Trolleybus Museum‘s award proves it measures up, meeting the guidelines on how it is run; how it looks after its collection and services it provides its visitors. Graham Bilbé, Museum Chairman, said, ―I was delighted to hear the news that we have been awarded Accreditation. It is a significant advance in the continued development of our museum and a hearty thank you to all those dedicated volunteers involved.‖ Andrew Motion, Chair of MLA, said, ―Being awarded Accreditation is an impressive achievement. It recognises the high standard and service that The Trolleybus Museum at Sandtoft provides and acknowledges the hard work of its volunteers.‖ The Trolleybus Museum is next open on Saturday and Sunday 11th and 12th December for Santa Weekend . (see advert page 7)

Peter Green Life & Pensions Ltd, 6 Akeferry Road, Westwoodside, Doncaster, DN9 2DX

Do you know that you have an O.M.O. when you retire? Today in the UK the above is an abbreviation for Open Market Option; this is the option at your selected retirement age to transfer your pension fund to any other provider who will give you a better rate or better options than your existing Scheme, free of any penalties. The options available are many, including Annuity Purchase which can be guaranteed or Investment Linked, they can also index or remain level, pay a proportion to a surviving partner, there are temporary annuities, and Income Drawdown Plans, where the fund remains invested and you then take an income from it. In addition If your health or lifestyle (smoking, drinking, obesity) is expected to lead to a reduced life expectancy, you could qualify for an ‗enhanced‘ annuity, which provides a higher rate of income compared to a standard annuity. This is because an enhanced annuity is based on your personal circumstances, rather than just an average for your gender and age group. Estimates suggest that up to 40% of the retiring population are eligible for an enhanced annuity yet, in the first quarter of 2009, only 10% of retirees were actually taking advantage of this. Enhanced retirement annuities are designed specifically for this 40% group; providers are able to underwrite each case individually to offer the best income rate possible. In our experience the above can be quite a daunting process to people retiring. I think you will agree Faced with new adventures and directions, retirement can be both an exciting and anxious time. There are many important issues to consider and one of these is undoubtedly 'how do I make the most of my carefully built up pension fund?' That is where we come in, as Independent Financial Advisers (IFA‘s) we can search the whole market place to find the best retirement income for your specific needs. We will also assist in the completion of those Tax Returns that you get at retirement. We believe using an Independent Financial Adviser at this time makes sense, we are therefore without any obligation offering you the First Appointment Free for you to make your own mind up regarding using our services, and assure you the onlyTo decision you will please have to make the day532676 is the choice of Coffee643010 or Tea. advertise call on 01302 or 07912 9

Neighbourhood Priority One = Belton Playing Fields – Anti-social Behaviour Despite the nights pulling in and children returning to school, damage and anti-social behaviour continue in this area. Litter is strewn across the field which is used by many organisations, and windows have been broken in the pavilion which spoils it for those users. This is still a regularly patrolled area and we are seeking names, descriptions and vehicle‘s belonging to those concerned. Residents witnessing this type of behaviour are encouraged to call the police at the time problems occur.

Police Community Support Officer 7577 Stewart Pearson

Police Constable 1839 Tina Starbuck

Neighbourhood Priority Two = St Andrews Church/Kings Croft Car Park, Epworth – Youths causing annoyance. We have received reports of damage in this area, with a decorative bollard being damaged, and graffiti to walls surrounding the church. Again, the minority are spoiling it for the majority who work tirelessly to provide facilities for local people and tourists to the area. Again, we urge witnesses to such practices to call in, on 999 if it is happening there and then as it will be treated as a crime in progress. Descriptions of suspect are a great help in investigating those responsible. A youth has been arrested and bailed for committing damage to a bollard at St Andrew‘s Church. There have been 2 incidents of Hare Coursing that local officers have dealt with recently. Residents are encouraged to call in with descriptions of offenders/vehicles if they suspect they are illegally hunting. We want the word to get out that Humberside Police will not tolerate poaching in our area. A resident from the area received a police caution after a search of his property revealed a quantity of cannabis plants being grown for his use. A poacher believed to be on his way to trespass on land to hunt was given a warning under section 59 of the Police reform Act. Should he be caught in similar circumstances the police can seize his vehicle which may eventually be crushed. A group of teenagers from the Isle have reached the finals of Humberside Police‘s Lifestyle Project. KADA crew (Kids Against Domestic Abuse) who attend at South Axholme School in Epworth, will attend at an awards ceremony in Hull to find out their fate. They have presented to the Lifestyle panel recently and everyone here from the Neighbourhood Team wishes them all the best. It is a great achievement given that there have been over 4000 entries from the Humberside area. Well done.

Lights. Don’t we just love lights at Christmas! l drive out of my way to see houses in our villages lit up brilliantly. Every year, this Vicar goes round all the Christmas shops looking for new, sparkling decorations and lights! The first thing I do when I get home or arrive in Church is to turn on the lights on the Christmas tree. In the story of Jesus‘ birth, there was one brightly shining star that guided the Wise men to find Jesus, and present him with expensive gifts. Then there was a blinding light – a panoply of angels praising God – who made the shepherds hurry to see what was happening in Bethlehem. Later on, Jesus became known as ‗The Light of the World‘. That‘s why many Churches sing ―Carols by Candlelight‖ – to rejoice in God‘s love for us. Throughout the Christmas season, we celebrate the light that never goes out. At Christmas, there are many Churches and chapels all holding their own Christmas Celebrations. I do hope that at sometime, somewhere, you will come and celebrate ―THE LIGHT‖ that never goes out.

The Isle of Axholme

Where You Live

Your Local History

Adapted by Anthony Catherall

THE EARLY BAPTISTS IN THE ISLE OF AXHOLME In the 16th and 17th centuries, political and religious unrest and revolt were coupled together. The extreme Parliamentarians were the people with the most extreme views. One particular branch of these people was called Independents. In political terms they advocated local self-government with the King having little power. In religion they wanted to worship in a simple manner independent of the Church of England. The Independent‘s activities were centred around Gainsborough and Scrooby. Many are remembered as the Pilgrim Fathers. An offshoot of the Independents in Epworth was the Baptists. The earliest Baptists appear on the scene at the beginning of the 17th century. There is positive evidence that they existed in 1626. The Church‘s leader in Epworth, according to letters of 1630 found in Amsterdam, was a baker called Johnson. Very few Baptists records were kept of numbers or meetings because in those days there was little religious tolerance. People who rejected the Church of England for other non-Conformist religions did so on peril of a fine, prison, torture, deportment or death. Until 1612 they were liable to be burnt at the stake. The Baptists met in each other‘s houses or in woods or lofts in times of danger. Even in 1663 after the religious political motivated Civil War, the Conventicle Act forbade meetings of more than five people in private houses ―for any exercise of religion in any other manner than is the practice of the Church of England‖. Stiff penalties were imposed - £5.00 or three months jail for the first offence, £10.00 or six months jail for the second offence and deportation to America for the third offence. It was not 1689 with the Toleration Act that religious conscience was officially free. The Baptists‘ church register for 1673 gave a total membership for the Isle of 126 centred mainly on Epworth, Crowle and Butterwick. The Baptist belief of total immersion was appropriately suited to the ―den of waters‖ in the Isle. The River Torne was famous for its dippings. There was also an old farmhouse called ‗Dippings House Farm‖ near which many of the dippings took place. The Baptist Church in the Isle having weathered many early difficulties has survived and is thriving today. Now & Then – Then & Now No. 20

By Anthony Catherall

This month and every month see Epworth in bygone days and compare to today‘s images!

Robert Brown had a grocers & provisions shop on this site at 40 High Street Epworth during the 1920‘s and 30‘s. With his horse and cart he travelled the local area delivering his wares to local residents. Len & Mabel Rimmington next took over the shop. In 1952 former railwayman Rod Ponting arrived with his wife Margaret and daughter Penny (now Birks,) who kindly provided me with this photograph above. Mr Ponting was always cheerful remembers Elsie Boggis who was next door, he used to catch my eye and often waved to me from their landing window. After her fish shop closed in Chapel Street, Gertie Chapman worked for the Pontings in the shop along with Ann Kinman whose husband sold cars from the showroom further along the High Street near the White Bear. Great care and a distinct artistic flare made this window so attractive and appealing, drawing in customers to purchase their weekly shop. The Woods family took over from the Pontings. Then George Dawson bought the premises and Ann Brown (nee Burrows) moved in changing the use to a hairdresser. Recently No 40 has been operating as Estate Agents. The photo below taken on opening day 23 October 2010, shows new owners Dawn Petch and Massoumeh Hewis with their exciting, appealing and colourful window display featuring toys, gifts and house wares together with a unique name of ‗Bobbing For Apples‘, a welcome new business to Epworth High Street. We all wish you happiness and success.

It is probably a reflection of my generation, but I am not (yet) a contributor to the social networking internet site FACEBOOK. It is true that there are twenty plus people who, according to the e mails I regularly receive unsolicited from the site, want to be my FACEBOOK friend, but I have not yet taken the plunge. One of the younger members of one of my churches tells me he has over 200 FACEBOOK friends. During November HRH Queen Elizabeth entered the FACEBOOK site, and her ‗friends‘ can now receive daily updates on court events. I understand that you cannot directly e mail the Queen, but if there is a request Buckingham Palace will include you on their circulation list of appointments.. FACEBOOK is a winning name, and has fast become a brand. The very word implies an openness, contact, and direct communication. The photographs and information which members load onto the site allows others (friends) to have access to this information. All of us to a greater or lesser extent seek this directness and approachability in our social communications. , St Paul wrote to the Corinthians, “Now we see but a pale reflection, as in a mirror, then we shall see face to face.” I Cor. 13, v. 12. This not on an internet site, but a real personal encounter with God. At Christmas we celebrate the fact that God became man in Jesus Christ, that the world might see, and know—face to face. Happy Christmas, Rev David Leese Wesley manse 37 high Street, Epworth.

Epworth Rural Day Centre meet every week on a Wednesday at the Thurlow Pavilion (War Memorial Field) from 9a.m. to 3 p.m. It is for the over 60's and that is anyone over that age who needs to meet and socialise with others. We have people who come and for them it is the only outing of the week. We have some people who are referred to us by social services and others whom I or my helpers have met and asked if they would like to join the group. Tea or coffee and biscuits is served in the morning and we have armchair exercises, new age curling or just chat. A light lunch is served about 12p.m. and this is followed by card games etc. We have outings during the year and a Christmas Party. We celebrate each members birthday with flowers and a card. We are partly backed by social services who provide the bus and pay for the room, also they contribute to some of the refreshments, but we are completely manned by volunteers who work on a 4 week rota service, but some come every week. We hold a weekly raffle to raise funds and rely Our last trip at Brigg Garden Centre on donations to take members out on trips and for our Christmas party. Our members ages range from the late sixties to 104. Our Christmas Party this year is on the 24th November. In 2009, Epworth Town Council, through the Pride in Epworth committee, had two Foster Barnes seats restored after one hundred years. Foster Barnes was the founder of The Epworth Bells. Epworth Primary School News Letter Bonfire Night Thank you to all those families who attended the Bonfire at the Epworth Showground on Friday 5th November. Despite the early rain, it turned out to be a nice evening, and the fireworks were spectacular! We hope everyone attending had an enjoyable evening. I would like to thank the event organisers and helpers from Friends of Epworth School, Epworth United Football Club and the Epworth Showground Committee. We hope to have raised several hundred pounds for the school and the other two groups organising the event. Help with Phonics We have recently held a second successful event for parents to learn more about how we teach different areas of the curriculum. Around 30 parents from Foundation Stage and key stage 1 joined us for a phonics workshop. Parents were shown the different phases of phonics taught in each year from Reception to Year 2 and joined in some activities. We also showed an excellent website with lots of phonics games for the children to play. This is www.phonicsplay.co.uk We hope parents are finding our workshops helpful in enabling them to better help their child learn. Children progress much faster where home and school work more closely together. 90 Harvest Parcels given to Senior Citizens in Epworth Last month we held our annual Harverst Festival in school. This year it was led by children in Class 5 who performed in front of a mountain of Harvest produce - fruit, vegetables, tins and dried foods – bought in by the children. The youngest children in Reception joined with children from Stepping Stones and Thurlow preschool the previous day for their own Harvest Celebration and to start off the display of produce. Later in the day all our Year 6 children distributed 90 parcels to Senior Citizens in Epworth. These were greatly appreciated and as usual we received several notes of thanks – it was good to know how much this means to our Senior Citizens as it shows the children of Epworth Primary School care. PINK Day in school Last month everyone took part in PINK day by having a non-uniform and wear anything pink day and making a donation. Some adults and staff even wore a pink tu-tu! During the week there are tubes in each classroom to collect pennies to also raise money. We also sold PINK buns for 20p. at breaktime for the children – and expensive buns in the staffroom for the adults! We raised the magnificent total of £487 in total. Half of the money raised went to breast cancer research at the Princess Diana Hospital Pink Rose Suite in Grimsby and half to P.A.C.T. (Parents Association of Children with Tumours and Leukaemia).Well done everyone. With best wishes. ohn Hodgkins Headteacher

A practical evening at Axholme Camera Club was followed shortly after by a competition. Macro and Close-up Photography was the subject of both evenings, so members had the opportunity to put into practise what they had learnt. The colour section was won by Andrew Kershaw, who also got 3rd place in the monochrome section, Ted Sabin achieved 2nd place in both sections, along with Frank Gray, who was joint 2nd and joint 3rd with Jan Neale in colour. Judy Newton was outright winner of the monochrome. Paul Hobson, ex- Sheffield schoolteacher turned Photographer, went along to show some of his work. During a high paced evening, the members and visitors saw a variety of images digitally projected, many of which Paul has taken recently. He explained his techniques as well as entertaining with some humorous anecdotes. More practical sessions are on the calendar, as well as competitions and speakers. Peter Baker LRPS DPAGB will visit to present 'A Walk on the Wild Side through the eyes of a Fox' on November 9th. Everyone is welcome to attend what promises to be an interesting evening, also December 1st, to see Erica Oram's presentation on the 'Urban Landscape'. Both evenings begin at 7.30pm in Haxey Church Hall, £1.50 admission to include refreshments.

On Saturday at the Haxey Memorial Hall the Isle of Axholme Lions held a very enjoyable and successful charity Dinner. Over 100 attended and were entertained by Malcolm Lord who acted as Master of Ceremonies and the comedian from up north as he states Joshua. Both were highly amusing and kept us in almost continual laughter throughout the evening. As the point of the evening was to have fun and raise funds it was very fitting that at the start of dinner we had a surprise visit from the Crowle Lives group. President Chris Booth had the honour of presenting them with a cheque for a new defibrillator which was much needed. This set the tone for the evening and everyone gave generously to our auction of golf equipment signed by many well known golfers kindly donated by Mr & Mrs Dean of Crowle. The raffle was extremely popular with some attractive prizes for which we must thank the very generous donors. Gill Horberry for a drive in a Lamborghini ,the Epworth Tap and the Ealand Gate for a Sunday lunch for two and Jonathan David for a six months supply of chocolates. The evening raised in excess of ÂŁ1200 for our funds the majority of which goes back in to our community in different ways. Anyone wishing to know more about the Lions or who knows of someone requiring assistance please contact Terry Condliff on 01427 753642. Our next fund raiser is a favourite that you all enjoy every year and that is Father Christmas on his sleigh who will travel the Isle throughout December.

Isle Group of the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust Members Slide and Digital Evening Our next meeting will be on Thursday December 2nd, when we have our annual members slide and digital night. This is a night when several of our members entertain us with a variety of photographic presentations on a wide range of subjects, not necessarily natural history topics. In the past we have had talks on Indian railways, walking in the Alps, local moths and interesting holiday destinations to name just a few. What we will have this year is unknown at the moment so anyone who would like to share their images with us please contact Geoff before the meeting so that he can organise the relevant equipment and put the talks in order. You do not have to be an expert photographer or speaker so don‘t be shy, we just like to have a variety of short talks. This is always a popular meeting so do come along and join us. As this is our Christmas meeting the refreshments will include mince pies and there will be a selection of Christmas cards, calendars and diaries for sale. Advance notice for January 6th 2011 Wildlife Wanderings in Europe is the title of the January meeting. Geoff Espin will be taking us on a trip round Europe to see a variety of things, including beautiful flowers and butterflies. Geoff is an outstanding photographer so this is a meeting not to be missed, make a note in your new diaries! We meet on the first Thursday of the month from October to May at the new hall at the rear of Haxey Methodist Chapel on Low Street starting at 7.30pm. There is a small admission charge of £1 and there is a raffle and refreshments. Bird food is always on sale at the meetings as well as at Geoff‘s house in Belton. For further information about the local Trust group and their meetings please contact Geoff or Chris Trinder on 01427 872051. We look forward to welcoming all regular members and new visitors.

News from Belton All Saints CE Primary Harvest Festival Earlier this term, parents were invited to join us for our Harvest Festivals. Two services were held, one at All Saints Church and one in school, looking at the importance of Fair Trade. Pupils donated fresh produce and a collection of over £100 was taken. All the donations were combined with the Church‘s collection; fresh produce was then given to ‗The Forge‘ a drop in centre in Scunthorpe and a donation made to the ‗Tearfund‘. Design & Technology Workshop Key Stage 2 pupils took part in a curriculum workshop supporting their History and Design work. Years 3 and 4 have been studying Ancient Eygpt and using canes and elastic bands explored pyramid structures. Starting with small individual pyramids, groups and then the whole class combined their structures to make one large pyramid. Year 5 and 6 had a similar experience creating a Greek Temple. The activiies took a lot of patience and team work, pupils were really enthusiastic and we certainly saw some budding engineers amongst them! Remembrance Every year in school we take time to mark Remembrance Day. Poppies are sold and pupils learn about, and reflect upon, the impact of wars on our lives. A number of Year 6 pupils were chosen to respresent the school and their generation, at the service held at the war memorial. This year the school also took part in the Church‘s Sunday Remembrance service with a performance by the choir and pupils giving readings. Operation Christmas – Shoe Box Appeal Once again we have taken part in this year‘s Shoe Box Appeal. The shoe boxes, packed with gifts and wrapped in Christmas Paper, are sent to children around the world whose lives have been affected by poverty or war. Joining forces with All Saints Church, we have once again managed to collect around 60 boxes for the appeal. Thank you! Out of School Clubs Over the year we offer pupils a wide range of extra activities from Breakfast Club in the morning to Pottery, Judo and Football after school. This term pupils have had the opportunity to have a go at Fencing with a six week taster session. Best wishes Sarah Groves Headteacher

Women’s Institute (WI) Report This meeting was held in the Red Lion at 7-45pm as usual, however, the speaker for the meeting who was going to tell us about genealogy and how to g about tracing a family tree had to cancel at the last minute due to a family bereavement, so we held an evening of quizzes and competitions instead, following on from the more formal side. This was accompanied by much hilarity from all present. Condolences were sent to the speaker on her loss. The first part of the collection for battered and abused women also took place. This is Epworth and District group‘s response to a national campaign. Women in abusive relationships, who find the courage to leave and take themselves and their children away from the situation, often end up in refuges with nothing more than the clothes they stand up in. It is difficult enough for them to accept hand outs of second hand clothes for themselves and the children, but the real affront to dignity would be having to take second hand underwear. To help relieve them of this indignity, the National Federation of Women‘s Institutes have made their charitable campaign for this year, supplying the refuges with new underwear for these unfortunate women and their children. Our Group are collecting new underwear donated by members and giving them to the local refuge for battered and abused women. We will be taking the knickers collected to the refuge in the new year. If there is anyone else out there who would like to donate to this worthy cause please contact me and I will let them know how to help. The next meeting in December is the member‘s Christmas meal so no formal meeting is to be held. The next one after that is January 11th and will be at the Red Lion at 7-45pm. All new members welcome. Fancy a Challenge? South Axholme Offers It‌.. South Axholme School takes part in The Duke of Edinburgh award. This is a scheme that involves volunteering in the local community, participating in a physical activity, being able to perform a certain skill and to round off the whole experience participants take part in an expedition. When all of these factors have been accomplished it is possible to say that participants are left with a tremendous sense of well being and achievement. Some of the reasons pupils from the school, including ourselves, have chosen to do this is because the award stands you in good stead for university applications and your CV. Also it can be a personal challenge and adventure (especially on the expedition!). As well as the award benefiting the pupils it gives back to the community. Many life skills are learnt and experienced through the DofE, for example team work and decision making. With funding made possible from the PTA for equipment and resources 20 students have been able to take part in the scheme and with a growing demand for places on the DofE scheme greater funding would be necessary to enable more students to take part.

Beyond the Standard Driving Test Seasons greeting to you all., A good gear change is so smooth that your passengers won‘t even notice it has taken place. To achieve this smoothness, you must select a gear that matches the engine speed and road speed, and you must use the accelerator and clutch skilfully. Your goal is to drive as smoothly as possible all times. Drivers often get a false perception of how smooth their driving is, because they have the steering wheel for support. Ask your passengers for an assessment of your driving smoothness, or watch them in your peripheral vision. If they are rocking around as you negotiate a roundabout or corner, your technique isn‘t smooth enough and needs more work. When changing up a gear, release the accelerator and depress the clutch simultaneously, and only press the accelerator again as your foot is releasing the clutch. Expert timing will produce silky-smooth changes every time. When changing down a gear, you‘ll increase smoothness by matching the engine speed to the road speed with a brief blip of the accelerator. Good gear changes re also good for your car (and wallet). They keep your clutch and gearbox in excellent, condition for longer and save petrol. Poor gear changes and ―riding the clutch‖ causes expensive premature wear. Block changing-changing gear from say, third to fifth or fifth to second in one movement is an important part of Advanced Driving. Advanced Drivers make excellent progress by applying firm acceleration whenever it is safe and applicable. This could often mean reaching a 60mph speed limit in, say, third gear after an overtake manoeuvre. What is the point in changing from third to fourth and fourth to fifth just to maintain the same speed? This is an opportunity to minimise your driving inputs (and your fuel consumption) by changing straight from third into top gear missing out fourth gear. Like wise on approaching a roundabout or junction, slow your speed, by using your acceleration sense or brakes, and then select the gear for your exit. This may well mean changing straight from fifth to second. You should always aim to make gear changes after braking and before you turn the steering wheel. This produces a smooth, safe, progressive and economical drive, which your passengers will really appreciate. If you are interested in further information regarding the courses that we offer, you‘ll be able to find this information on the Institute of Advanced Motorists website at www.iam.org.uk or Tel: 020 8996 9600 Have a Merry Xmas and a very happy new year. Tel: 01302 370347 Mob: 0788 2578863 The school production of the musical Oliver at South Axholme school took place on Wednesday 13th and 14th October in the school hall. After months of dedicated rehearsals the cast delivered two fantastic shows. Oliver Jaques played the lead role of Oliver pulling at everyone‘s heart strings, supported by an equally convincing mischievous Dodger played by Joel Lambert . Bridie Smith gave an amazing performance as Fagin as did Jenni Etherington as Nancy. A formidable Bill Sykes was played by Reece Burbage. The biggest comedy scene was Widow Corney (Mrs Yates) diving on top of Bumble (Mr Woodland). Harrison Stork, Steve Lawson, James Gallagher and Amy Cranston multi-rolled various characters and the supporting cast and dancers worked with energy and enthusiasm to produce an amazing show, which reflected all of their talents. They were a credit to the school and deserve a big thank you for their dedication. On Friday 15 October the school held its annual Sponsored Walk. The whole school embarked on a 6 mile sponsored walk to raise money for the school and for a local charity. The charity chosen this year is a local one. ‗Kids CAP‘ (children at play) provides safe play sessions for local disabled children. The remaining money will go towards enhancing the learning experience for all of our pupils and improving the school environment. South Axholme PTA hosted a Christmas Shopping Evening on Thursday 11 November. The evening was held in the School Hall with a wide variety of stall holders giving different opportunities for Christmas presents. Stalls included Thorntons, Jamie at Home, The Body Shop and Smartest Baa None as well as To advertise call and 01302 532676 orhorse 07912 643010 37 local crafts including jewellery, please woodturning miniature rocking carvers.
