Welcome to the December issue of the Epworth and Belton Arrow. Great to see Santa out in force this year. You can visit the big man himself at the Smithy in Owston ferry, Boston Park farm and even see him in the streets of the Isle courtesy of Isle lions. Epworth Xmas market is looking to be a great event on the 5th December. Around 30 stall holders and lots of local shops open too, make sure you pop along and support local businesses for a great family day out. Mr. and Mrs Christmas stilt walkers will be joining the entertainment. as well as a special Panto dame! This year the Crowle pantomime will be Snow White and the Magnificent 7 – a pantomime with a Wild West theme. Most of the usual elements of the Snow White story are there – the Wicked Stepmother, the evil henchman, the handsome prince (who takes the shape of the local Deputy) and the magic mirror. However, instead of the 7 dwarves, Snow White is protected by a group of cowboys called the Magnificent 7 and our two dames are to be found running the local saloon, together with some rather dodgy saloon girls, a very shaky waitress and the help of Calamity Kate. As always there will be lots of fun, music and dancing and some audience participation, of course. Please support this local event, ticket details are on page 23. The deadline for the January issue is Friday 10th December for delivery by Sunday 2nd January. Enjoy the read and have a wonderful safe Christmas.

New Wildlife, Rural and Heritage Crime Officer for the Southbank Northern Lincolnshire PC Lawrence Grant has taken over as the Wildlife, Rural and Heritage Crime Officer for the Southbank following the retirement of PC Jane Proud who had served her community for over 20 years. We want to take this opportunity to thank Jane for her hard work and care of her community and wish her all the very best in her retirement. We and the local community will certainly miss her. As Jane takes on new challenges in her retirement we find out about PC Lawrence Grant. Lawrence grew up in rural North Lincolnshire and with grandparents as farmers it is easy to see why he’s ideal as our new Wildlife, Rural and Heritage Crime Officer. We asked Lawrence what made him want to become the Wildlife, Rural and Heritage Crime Officer, he said, “As a child I loved being outdoors and completed my Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award while at college. “My passion for rural and wildlife crime developed while I was working in Barton and subsequently Brigg. I felt that rural communities often got overlooked, due to most of our demand coming from urban communities. Having grown up in a rural setting it seemed like the perfect job for me. We know that rural crime is a serious concern in our Force and so we asked Lawrence what issues effect his local area most, he said, “The high impact, high cost issues for this area are rural burglary and theft. This can be burglaries in houses and farms and theft of farm equipment, plant and vehicles. “Seasonal issues such as hare coursing continue to be reported frequently in the autumn months during and after harvest when the fields are reduced to stubble. This brings with it damage to newly seeded drill crops and gateways. “As a wildlife crime officer I have received specialist training to investigate wildlife crimes such a badger baiting, hare coursing and poaching. I carry out this role full time however other officers are trained in this area within other policing teams such as communities, patrol and special constables. “What I can’t say often enough is to ask residents to report any and all crime no matter how small. Rural crime is often under reported and I would ask for people to call 101 with anything that is concerning them. If there is a crime in progress or a risk to life then always call 999.” You can follow us on social media: on twitter: http://twitter.com/Humberbeat_NL on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/HumberbeatNL/ and our Rural Task Force on Twitter: http://twitter.com/Humberbeat_RTF

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! And we are so excited to bring you the Epworth Christmas market on Sunday 5th of December from 10 am to 3 pm after a break last year due to Covid. With around 30 stallholders selling a huge variety of goods from Christmas wreaths and decorations to beautiful clothing and clocks the outdoor market will be stretching up the High Street to Albion Hill. And with lots of local shops open too it will be a great time to get some Christmas shopping done. PLUS a variety of food and drink stalls will be coming as part of North Lincolnshire Council’s FoodFest along with seating under gazebos positioned in view of the entertainment area in the marketplace. Our brilliant regular entertainment is back with singing from the fabulous duo Fran and Grace and dance performances from the amazing Locomotion Dance Studios. This year there’s so much more with singing, dancing and a bit of panto too from the sensational Streetbeat Dance Academy. And watch out you may spot a special Panto Dame wandering around too! But there’s even more with incredible, and totally professional, Mr & Mrs Christmas stilt walkers joining us. Children’s rides will also be in the Market Place and for older children and adults a rodeo will be near the town centre car park at the entrance to the market. Don’t forget we also have Santa ready to receive little visitors in his grotto in Fountain Court. No booking required. We’re really hoping you’ll be joining us for a festive family day and when you visit make sure you get a FREE raffle ticket to be in with a chance to win a Normanby Park pass and local shopping vouchers too. Remember there’s so much on the doorstep so please support your local shops and traders. Check out our Facebook page and event for further details @ LoveEpworth
Organised by the Epworth Business Forum and supported by North Lincolnshire Council FoodFest.

ACC’s December Update The Airport Consultative Committee (ACC) was established under Section 35 of the Civil Aviation Act 1982 to act as a link between Doncaster Sheffield Airport and those affected by its operations. It works closely with the Airport Operator in addressing users’ and community issues. Did you know that the runway at Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA) is longer than most in Northern England and can accommodate some of the world’s largest aircraft? Very large commercial aircraft, as well military transporters frequently use the airport for commercial and training purposes. In September, RAF Globemaster crews carried out training at the airport to prepare for their recent evacuation missions from Afghanistan. At its September meeting, the Airport Consultative Committee (ACC) was advised that these aircraft are much larger than normal commercial types and consequently they seem to be flying lower. However, members were assured that all aircraft, regardless of size or speed, must follow agreed routes and heights. Indeed, the committee regularly checks that agreed procedures are being followed and that any aircraft operator not complying is held to account and fined. The Committee also heard that good progress had been made on finding solutions to some longstanding issues; for example, adjustments to soakaways and surface water drainage at First Avenue and at Pembridge Park are expected to be approved soon. The Committee was pleased to hear that the Central Plaza scheme had been approved and that the Doncaster Local Plan adopted. Members were also advised that there would soon be a consultation on a residential scheme at Hurst Wood. Solutions to manage traffic speeds on airport roads are also being developed including the expanded use of patrols. Committee members are being consulted on the location of defibrillators which the Airport Operator is donating for community use as part of its local investment programme. It was also reported that, following the easing of many Covid restrictions, commercial aircraft traffic was increasing but was still well below the activity levels seen in Summer 2019. Nevertheless, sales of seats for Summer 2022 are encouraging and members were reminded of the many destinations served by the Airport, including a variety of Eastern European destinations and leisure destinations such as Palma and Malaga (Spain), Corfu, Crete and Kos (Greece) and long-haul to Cancun (Mexico) and Melbourne, Orlando (Florida).

Isle Group of the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust Thursday December 2nd at 7.30pm Darkness into light Geoff Trinder On Thursday December 2nd at 7.30pm the Isle Group of the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust will hold their monthly meeting. Again we are meeting in the more spacious venue, Belton All Saints Centre (Church Hall). This is next to the Church on Stocks Hill which is off the High Street. We began last month with our popular member’s photographic evening when we saw images on a variety of topics including fungi, butterflies, seabirds and a look back at the past. Well known local naturalist and photographer Geoff Trinder will be showing us a wide range of pictures of people, landscapes and wildlife and telling us the stories that go with them. The committee will do everything they can to make sure we have an enjoyable and safe meeting. Everyone is welcome, you don't have to be a member of the Wildlife Trust so please come along and join us. Entrance fee is £1. For further information about the local Trust group and their meetings please contact Tony Lee on 01427 753831 or Chris Trinder on 01427 872051. Details about the group are also on the Lincolnshire Trust web site under area groups.

West Butterwick C of E Primary School Trentside Federation This month has continued to be busy and we have spent time thinking about what Our Vision and School Values mean to us. At the Trentside Federation, building a ‘community of hope’ underpins our vision. Hope and resilience are at the heart of everyone’s learning, encouraging our capacity for reflective thought. We aim to empower everyone through their learning and relationships, so that all can be ‘agents of positive change’ for themselves, our schools, our local communities and the wider world. We value everyone as they are. Everyone matter in their uniqueness and everyone is valued. On Tuesday 2nd November, the School Council went to the Blessing of the Poppies at St Mary’s Church. Here is the poem that they read. On Tuesday 2nd November, the School Council went to the Blessing of the Poppies at St Mary’s Church. Here is the poem that they read. When I see a poppy When I see a poppy, I am still. I am calm. I am quiet. Theses poppies here today remind us of soldiers and families. These poppies here today remind us of times that are near and far away. When I see a poppy, I am thoughtful. I am respectful. I am quiet. Theses poppies here today remind us all the fighting that has taken place. These poppies here today remind us of the peace we have today.
