Epworth Music Day 2022 – Saturday 18th June
After a two year gap owing to Covid, we’re planning to hold Epworth Music Day as a ‘live’ event again on 18th June 2022. We’re hoping to use the same locations as in 2019, but are also applying to close the roads in the centre of Epworth to provide a safer place to enjoy the music. If you want to perform at Music Day, please email me at peter.barnard@me.com We already have several performers on the list, and it’ll be a case of ‘first come, first served’! John Lambert looks after the stewards for the day and tells me that he is looking for some more people to help out. You don’t have to be a steward for the whole day – an hour or two would be as welcome. If you can help, please email John at jrlambert@doctors.org.uk So, please put the date in your diary and tell your friends! It should be a great day of live music in Epworth! peter.barnard@me.com
At this stage of planning, we’re looking for some owners of apple trees – it could also feature other fruit trees – in Epworth who would be prepared to open their garden for a morning/afternoon and let people visit. I’m planning to open our garden for the event. If you’re prepared to be part of this, please contact me on peter.barnard@me.com or 01427 873937. I do hope that we can find enough gardens in Epworth that can open. Peter Barnard
Sheffield Childen’s Hospital Charity Christmas Quiz There were many entries for the Christmas Quiz “Food and Drink” this year and as a result 1st Prize goes to Mrs J Lennard of Wisbech, Cambridgeshire 2nd Prize to Mr C Hoskin of Wigton, Cumbria and 3rd Prize to Polly Helliar of Taunton, Somerset
Thank you to everyone who supported the Quiz in any way. A donation of approximately £650 will be sent to the Charity. Anne Broster

The Apple of Your Isle – Celebrating Apples 2022 – Epworth Open Fruit Gardens The Apple of Your Isle has organised several successful Apple events in Epworth, as well as apple pressing days in Epworth, Haxey, Crowle and Ealand. It all serves to promote the fun to be had from growing apple trees and using their produce. In 2022, we’re planning to hold two events in Epworth to celebrate apple trees. The first one will be in April/May and the other in September/ October. The Open Gardens Scheme operates to let people visit interesting gardens and donate to a local charity. Epworth gardens have been part of such an event. We’re planning to set up something similar but with apple trees as the focus. The April/ May event will be when they are looking beautiful in their blossom and the September/October one when the fruit is ripening.

Epworth Bowls Club Battle Green Epworth Spring is nearly upon us and Epworth Bowls Club is preparing for the new bowling season. We are a small, friendly and active club, founded in the 1930's and our season starts from 1st May to 30th August. Annual membership is £30 and social membership is £20. Our activities vary from league matches, internal competitions, visiting other clubs for friendly days out, have our own Gala Day and enjoy some very good Fun Days with our members. We also meet up socially every month during the winter. Bowling is not just for the elderly and we would like to welcome and encourage new members to join us, male and female, all age groups (children from age 12 years). Our roll-ups, which are run twice a week, have been well supported and we hope to do the same again this year in compliance with any COVID 19 rules and regulations which have been set out by Bowls England. This is a good opportunity to learn a new sport, make new friends, to exercise according to your own ability and all at a very reasonable cost. Social membership is also available if you prefer. Why not come and have a go, you will be made very welcome with bowls and instructions initially provided. Contact Liz or Sue who will be pleased to give you any further information you require. Isle Group of the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust Thursday February 3rd 2022 at 7.30pm Belton All Saints Centre, Stocks Hill Butterflies and Moths, John Davison On Thursday February 3rd at 7.30pm the Isle Group of the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust will hold their monthly meeting in Belton Church Hall. John Davison is going to give us a talk on butterflies and moths. John is a well travelled naturalist and photographer and is the County Recorder for butterflies. He has talked to the group before on different subjects and this promises to be informative and entertaining, getting us ready for seeing a variety of butterflies and moths in the months ahead. We are very sorry that the January meeting on Far Ings National Nature Reserve had to be cancelled at the last minute because the speaker had covid, this has now been re-arranged for March 3rd. We meet in the spacious venue, Belton All Saints Centre (Church Hall) which is next to the Church on Stocks Hill off the High Street. The committee will do everything they can to make sure we have an enjoyable and safe meeting. Everyone is welcome, you don't have to be a member of the Wildlife Trust so please come along and join us. Entrance fee is £1. For further information about the local Trust group and their meetings please contact Tony Lee on 01427 753831 or Chris Trinder on 01427 872051. Details about the group are also on the Lincolnshire Trust web site under area groups.

Swimming facilities for the disabled in Crowle I am a retired, disabled pensioner living in Crowle. I was very interested in hearing about the Crowle Leisure Centre and swimming pool which has been built behind the Axholme Academy, but didn’t think I would be able to use it as I swim very little because of my multiple sclerosis and cannot easily enter or leave the pool. A few months ago I had a replacement hip operation. I had nine weeks in various homes for rehabilitation, but I had very little physiotherapy and returned home to none. After three months I arranged for some private physiotherapy and was advised to try hydrotherapy. This I did in a private pool and it has been very enjoyable and successful. It is also very expensive and I was advised to try to find what facilities were available at local pools. We rang the Leisure Centre at the Academy and they were most helpful. I decided to try it, not really expecting to be able to access the pool easily or be able to move around well. We went at 9am one Thursday morning and were greeted by helpful, accommodating, friendly efficient staff. The facilities were spotlessly clean and well equipped. I used the disabled facilities to change and there was a chair in the room to take me to the pool. There was a hoist to lift me into and out of the pool and when I am in the water I am able to practice all the exercises the physiotherapist had shown to me. I have used the pool once a week for the past few weeks and been really happy. I had one session with the private physiotherapist and she was pleased with my current progress. I shall continue to see her occasionally and practice in the Crowle pool with my husband. I now have an NHS physiotherapist and am finding that very helpful out of the water. Hopefully, before too long I shall start to see an improvement, but now we have found the facilities available locally we shall continue to use them. The changing rooms and pool provision are excellent and most welcoming is the quality, friendliness and efficiency of the staff. Member of the public living in Crowle
