On Thursday January 5th the Isle group of the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust will be having their monthly meeting. It will be our annual member’s night where anyone can bring along a small number of images to share with the group. These can be on any topic, it doesn’t have to be on something to do with wildlife and you don’t have to be a brilliant photographer so don’t be shy. If you are bringing some photos along they need to be on a memory stick so that we can show them through our laptop. It helps if you contact Tony Lee (see below for details) before hand in order for him to organise the running order. The member’s night is always popular because we have a variety of different images.
We meet at:Belton All Saints Centre (Church Hall), Stocks Hill, Belton, DN9 1PE
Everyone is welcome, you don't have to be a member of the Wildlife Trust so please come along and join us. Entrance fee is £1. There will be refreshments and a raffle.
We meet on the 1st Thursday of the month and next month, February 2nd, we will be having a talk on Hungarian Wildlife by local photographers Ray Brammall and Duncan Hill.
For further information about the local Trust group and their meetings please contact Tony Lee on 01427 753831 or Chris Trinder on 01427 872051. Details about the group are also on the Lincolnshire Trust web site under area groups.
Conversations between the members at Beltoft and West Butterwick Methodist churches have resulted in a decision to bring the lives of the 2 chapels more closely together. Both chapels have small congregations, but they are conscious of their presence in their communities. Beltoft chapel, built on the site of an old Quaker burial ground, has been the only place of Christian worship in the village since 1833, the current building was built in 1904. It is also the only public space the community and has recently been used for a very successful Jubilee party and for a number of local meetings. West Butterwick chapel, in the centre of the village, has also been in existence since the mid 1830’s. It is used as the venue for a pop-up post office, and by the nearby primary school, and is the venue for a newly beginning local history group; ‘Village Memories’. It is hoped that by joining together they will be able to pool their skills, energies and finances to maintain a presence of worship and service in the communities for some time to come. Watch out for news of Christmas Fayres in both buildings this year to help with their fundraising.
At the beginning of December approximately 40 members of the High Levels WI met for a wonderful 75th Birthday Party. In addition to an excellent Afternoon Tea there was a resume of the foundation of this WI and subsequent activities over the following 75 years.
As life has changed so have the venues and activities but the ethos of friendship continues. We meet at The Reindeer Inn at Sandtoft on the third Wednesday of each month and begin at 6.45pm.
Our January meeting will host Ben Hepworth of Thorn and Thistle Coffee Roasters. His talk is entitled “Mindful Coffee’. As February is the WI Climate Change month there will be the opportunity to create “Heart Bunting”. Have a look at our website, www.highlevelswi.co.uk, to discover more about us. Better still come and join us. We will make you welcome. You may win the raffle and you will certainly be able to enjoy refreshments. (We just charge £5 for visitors).

The Isle choral singers Advent/Christmas concert in Belton All Saints Church was a roaring success. The concert consisted of carols old and new with traditional and very modern, with opportunities for the audience to join in. And the audience did just that with the entire group singing along with great gusto, and standing up and sitting down where appropriate in the "Twelve days of Christmas".
There was a mix of entire choir and smaller ensembles and solo performances, with a couple of purely instrumental performances, all of which were really well received by the audience. There was a number of original pieces too, with two being written by the choir musical director, Robert Steadman, and five shorter instrumental pieces written by the choir's accompanist, Maurice Davies, both of whom are talented musicians and composers.
Four members of the choir, one from each section, also did readings based around Christmas, all of which were well received by the audience as they were very light hearted comedy pieces. All in all, a great performance enjoyed by everyone, including the members of the choir, and a great lead in to the refreshments served in the church hall after the performance, which were all enjoyed by both audience and choir.
Isle Choral Singers is the oldest choir in the Isle, having been in existence for over 35 years now. However, there is a need for new members in all four sections,
Rehearsals have already begun for the Spring concert in 2023, and there is a plan to do a spectacular multi choir, orchestra performance for the coronation so keep a watch for news of dates and places. The choir is a registered charity.
We would all like to wish you well for a Peaceful Christmas and New Year.
