Welcome to the June issue of Epworth and Belton Arrow This month I’m looking forward to spending more time outdoors with family and friends, as we hopefully see the weather improving, as we head towards the longest day on the 21st June! At last The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations are here. I hope there are lots of community events and activities happening in the villages: street parties, picnics, concerts, tea dances. What ever you decide to do, celebrate in style. I would love to receive some photos of the day so we can publish them in the next issue. Epworth Music day is back, a great day of all types of music in the day and evening, make sure you support this local event and its all FREE. We have local lady Pam Smith, many of you may know her from Pam’s mini bus and taxi service. Wow look at her and her daughter ‘walking the wing’, more details on how to sponsor her is on page 12. Proceeds go to Lindsey Lodge hospice. I hope you all have a great extended bank holiday weekend and let the sun shine upon us! Enjoy the read. The deadline for the July issue is Friday 10th June for delivery by the 1st of the month.

Pathfinders Walks Twice every week the

Epworth Music Day 2022 – We’re back on Saturday 18th June! We are putting the final pieces together for another great day of celebrating live music. In the daytime there’ll be over 80 hours of free music from 10am to 5pm in 13 venues around Epworth, featuring over 50 different groups and performers of all types of music. All this is free. This year we will be closing the roads in the centre of Epworth, and we hope that this will add to the atmosphere. As well as the daytime programme, there will be 4 separate concerts in Epworth on Saturday evening to round off a stupendous day’s music and entertainment: The music at the Queen’s Head will continue after the daytime sets, with a further 3 rock bands. Music will finish earlier there this year. At 7pm there will be a concert with 6 different groups – again of all types of music – performing in St Andrew’s Church. Music will continue at the White Bear until 8pm. A blues band will be playing in The Old School Inn at 8pm. Finally, in the Imperial Hall an evening ceilidh starts at 7.30pm. All 4 concerts and the ceilidh are free; no tickets are needed. Full details of the performers and the daytime and evening programmes will be available at www.epworthmusicday.com and will be available on the day. You can also follow us on our Facebook page. We would still welcome a few more stewards to help on the day – for however much time you can give. If you think you could help, please contact John Lambert on jrlambert@doctors.org.uk Epworth Music Day 2022 - it should be another grand day out! Spread the word!

Back with a Bang - Isle Choral Singers Spring Concert The Isle choral Singers first concert since the beginning of Covid took place at St Andrew's Church in Epworth on Saturday the 23rd of April, with a mixed programme from world renowned composers of choral music, including such names as Bach, Handel, Sibelius, Elgar, Martin Shaw and Karl Jenkins. There was a good number of people in the audience who welcomed the choir back with some enthusiasm, which increased with each piece of music performed.

Five flower arrangements, made by the Epworth and District Flower Club members at their April meeting, were left to decorate St Andrew’s Church for Easter. They had been made by some of the thirty members of the Club who met for their Spring Workshop on Monday, 11th April in St Andrew’s Church Epworth. The demonstrator had set up eight tables and protected them with yellow and green covers and provided everything necessary for each member to create her own arrangement. The Chairman welcomed everyone and reminded the members of the plant sales table.

Next our demonstrator, Sarah was welcomed and she began. On the table she placed a medium sized green bucket and into that she positioned a small container of Tete a Tete daffodils at the front and a leafless sprig of cherry blossom to the back. Then Sarah took two aspidistra leaves and looped those placing them to one side. She split a long New Zealand flax leaf and similarly looped that and placed it at the other side of the container. In front of the twigs Sarah positioned three pink gerbera and then three pale pink roses descending in height. Further flowers consisting of two hyacinths, a spray of cream chrysanthemums and one large yellow chrysanthemum were then carefully arranged and foliage such as fatshedera and euonymus completed The performance ended with votes of thanks the natural materials. Sarah provided a decorated from Penny, and Susan, who quite truly said performance was proof that the choir really was imitation egg on a stick and some coloured midelino sticks which she tied delicately creating an original back, and with a bang! light refreshments were Easter themed display.

The church made a lovely backdrop for all the music, the audience appreciation was clearly to be seen, and heard, with the volume of applause which ensued, until the last piece which was a late addition to the programme, a rendition, in Ukranian, of the Ukrainian national anthem by Anna, a member of the choir who has a parent who is Ukranian. The church fell totally silent, until the end when a burst of applause broke out and quite a few faces had the handkerchief to the eyes to wipe away the tears it had created.

enjoyed by both choir and audience as they mingled in the church.

So then it was up to the individual members. As Sarah provides absolutely everything necessary for Rehearsals for the summer concert, which is each member and makes the work look so easy planned for July 9th at St Nicholas Church in there should have been thirty identical arrangements Haxey, have already started and will be made in no time. However, there was a constant continuing weekly on Monday evening in the buzz of questions and one member was heard to ask Imperial Hall in Epworth at 7pm. why the Church clock struck every quarter hour so fast! However by nine o’clock all arrangements were Anyone, particularly a few more males for the happily completed and every one looked different tenor and bass sections, as well as you ladies displaying the individuality of the members. out there, who are interested in finding out Refreshments were enjoyed as usual and members more, and may decide they would like to try were informed of the pleasing total from the sales singing with the choir are welcome to go along table. to the hall on any Monday or look on the choirs The meeting on 13th June will take a different website for more information, format and will start at 7pm in Low Burnham. www.islechoralsociety.com. The club will begin with an informal walk around Low Burnham village admiring the Jubilee Remember, anyone can sing, and music is good Celebration displays. It will be followed by a for the soul and mental wellbeing. cream tea in St Andrew’s Church at 8pm.
