Would you consider sponsoring Epworth War Memorial Field – a local volunteer led charity? Over the years we have seen less volunteers coming forward to act as trustees or join the maintenance committee and so the essential work falls on a smaller group as time goes by.

If you can spare the time or have ideas for fund raising that you can carry out you will be made very welcome. Anyone requiring information can contact Fred Brumby, Chair of Trustees on mobile number 07944708786.

RESCUE DAY WILL RETURN IN 2023 It is with heavy heart that Rescue Day 2022, which was due to be held on Saturday 10th July at 7 Lakes Country Park, Crowle has been postponed. Several of our organisers, employed by our emergency and health services and along with our stakeholders, who support the planning and delivery of Rescue Day, remain under extreme pressure at this time, therefore regrettably a joint decision has been taken to cancel the event. Michael Joyce-Knowles, on behalf of the Rescue Day Society, said “The team are hugely disappointed that we will not be able to bring Rescue Day to you again this year. Cancelling the event is one of the hardest decisions to make, however for many reasons, it has been a tough year for all of those involved with the event. We wish to thank our hosts 7 Lakes Country Park and all our organisers, officials, volunteers, exhibitors and their families for their continued support” Rescue Day remains committed to promoting the great work of our emergency and voluntary services, raising money for charities and good causes, it has funded many lifesaving public defibrillators and equipment which have been placed in local communities. We know our visitors and exhibitors will be sad to hear that this year’s event will not go ahead, however we are pleased to let you know that Rescue Day will return 2023 and we look forward to welcoming you all back very soon. Please keep an eye on our website rescueday999.com and social media accounts facebook.com/rescuedayuk/ and twitter.com/Rescue_Day for more information.

Isle Group of the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust Thursday May 5th 2022 at 7.30pm

Belton All Saints Centre, Stocks Hill, Belton, DN9 1PE My Lincolnshire Diary by Gill Walsh On Thursday May 5th at 7.30pm the Isle Group of the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust will hold their monthly meeting in Belton Church Hall. This month we are having a talk by Gill Walsh entitled My Lincolnshire Diary. Gill spent a year visiting and photographing things within the county, including many wildlife reserves. We meet in the spacious venue, Belton All Saints Centre (Church Hall) which is next to the Church on Stocks Hill off the High Street in Belton.. The committee will do everything they can to make sure we have an enjoyable and safe meeting. Everyone is welcome, you don't have to be a member of the Wildlife Trust so please come along and join us. Entrance fee is £1. There will be refreshments and a raffle. For further information about the local Trust group and their meetings please contact Tony Lee on 01427 753831 or Chris Trinder on 01427 872051. Details about the group are also on the Lincolnshire Trust web site under area groups.

Epworth Music Day 2022 – We’re back! For the past 2 years we have been unable to hold Epworth Music Day as a live event because of Covid. This year on Saturday 18 June, live music will be returning to the town! With less than 2 months to go before this year’s Epworth Music Day, we’re putting the final pieces together for another great day of celebrating live music. In the daytime there’ll be over 80 hours of free music from 10am to 5pm in 13 venues around Epworth, featuring over 50 different groups and performers of all types of music. All this is free. As well as the daytime programme, there will be 4 separate concerts in Epworth on Saturday evening to round off a stupendous day’s music and entertainment: The music at the Queen’s Head will continue after the daytime sets, with a further 3 rock bands. Music will finish earlier there this year. At 7pm there will be a concert with 6 different groups – again of all types of music – performing in

20

St Andrew’s Church. Music will continue at the White Bear until 8pm. A blues band will be playing in The Old School Inn at 8pm. Finally, in the Imperial Hall an evening ceilidh starts at 7.30pm. All 4 concerts and the ceilidh are free; no tickets are needed. Full details of the performers and the daytime and evening programmes will be available at www.epworthmusicday.com and will be available on the day. You can also follow us on our Fb page. We would still welcome a few more stewards to help on the day – for however much time you can give. If you think you could help, please contact John Lambert on jrlambert@doctors.org.uk

The members of Epworth and District Flower Club had a very enjoyable meeting in March. Everyone was welcomed by the vice chairperson and the meeting began. Prior to the meeting four members had been given an amount of money to spend on supermarket flowers and three different members had volunteered to create an arrangement with the flowers which appeared, one member creating two arrangements. The volunteers provided containers and foliage to enhance the flowers. The evening was very enjoyable and as a result there were six raffle prizes. Several members enjoyed refreshments to warm up as the venue had some heating problem that evening. In April the club had an Easter Workshop. These meetings are always enjoyed by members who have a chance to display their own skills or learn more. In May an Area Demonstrator, Di Smith, will visit and entertain the club with her skills and produce arrangements entitled “Diversity”. In June it is planned to have an informal walk around Low Burnham village to visit their Jubilee Celebration flower displays and follow this with a cream tea in St Andrew’s Church. The club has been given the opportunity to create an arrangement at the Lincoln Cathedral Flower Festival in August, so even if you are not able to join the Flower Club you may be interested to see the flowers there. New members are always welcome. The regular meeting night is the second Monday each month and the venue is St Andrew’s Church Epworth at 7.30pm.

Epworth Old Rectory has opened its doors for the new season! And with the new season comes some changes in roles and personnel in the team. The new staffing team, Anya (Visits and Collections Manager), Bill (Buildings Supervisor), Jane (Strategic Manager), Sarah (Administrator) joins Shirley our long term (Gardener). Epworth Old Rectory welcomes the new members to this team and records its appreciation to retiring members of the team for their service. The Old Rectory team is only complete with the volunteers without whom it could not be open to the Public and we are grateful for their renewed commitment. The staffing team acts as custodians of the impressive and unique Grade 1 listed Queen Anne house and are committed to caring for the site, the building and its collections whilst sharing the stories of the families who lived there. The volunteers play a crucial role in providing a warm welcome to all of the Rectory’s visitors, without them Epworth Old Rectory wouldn’t be open to the public. The volunteers give their precious time and bring their knowledge of the site to deliver an excellent visitor experience. Built in 1709, Epworth Old Rectory was famously the childhood home of John and Charles Wesley who founded Methodism. The Old Rectory tells the unique and fascinating story of the Wesley family and how Methodism came to being. Come along to Old Rectory for a tour of the house where you can learn all about Susanna Wesley, ‘The Mother of Methodism’, and the Wesley children – all of the 10 surviving children. If you want to find out more about the Rectory or arrange a visit, please email Anya vcm@epwortholdrectory.org.uk, or visit our website www.epwortholdrectory.org.uk or call 01427 872268.
