Community News At the time of writing this the area is in the middle of a crisis that makes cricketing issues pale into insignificance, The community response has been truly inspiring and we can only hope that when reading this things are beginning to return to some form of normality if that is at all possible after such devastating events. On to cricketing matters, and October was a big month for the club, following a thorough inspection of the clubs processes and a site visit on 25th July we received official confirmation that we have achieved our ambition of Clubmark Accreditation. Clubmark is a key indicator of a clubs ability to manage itself well and is able to provide a safe and welcoming environment for all, as evidenced in the below comment from the ECB Clubmark team. 'We are delighted to write and confirm that following a review of your ECB Clubmark file, your accreditation has been confirmed. Congratulations to all those involved at your club for this achievement and for all that they do to promote cricket locally. Having a network of safe, family friendly and well organised clubs is vital for the future of the game and achieving Clubmark status shows that you and your volunteers are at the forefront of this.' This is a landmark achievement for the club and we would like to thank all those involved at the club, we will of course, continue in our efforts to improve all aspects of the club on and off the field to maintain this status. The club are also proud to announce that Tommy Hyde has been elected as club captain for the 2020 season, and hopefully beyond. We are fortunate to have secured the services of a young ambitious captain who is looking to maintain and take forward the hard work that has been done on the field last season. Tommy is already looking at making a couple of signings to boost last seasons successful squad. Senior and Junior indoor nets have been booked to start in February in preparation of the season ahead. We will post timings for each age group in the January issue. The ladies team have been continuing to train on Monday evenings and have begun the indoor season in positive fashion, sitting 2nd in their league. Wishing you all a safe and happy festive period from everyone at HTCC

Hatfield Community Library News Item Children and adults had fun at the Lab Rascals Halloween event. They did experiments with dry ice and learned about acids and alkalis and the colours they make. At one point the library was filled with a spooky fog made from the dry ice and hot water. Being November, I think I can mention the Christmas Fayre which will be on December 6th. Again it will be in conjunction with the switching on of the Christmas lights. There will be lots of stalls including our very tempting cake stall and book stall. Mulled wine and mince pies will also be available We will also have our annual raffle which last year had so many prizes it took ages to draw the tickets. The prize draw for the Summer reading Challenge has taken place. The three winners are at Dunsville Primary School, Hatfield Woodhouse School and Barnby Dun School respectively. I will be ringing the schools to arrange a time to go in and present the prizes. Each child will receive a £10 book token and a large chocolate bar. Another jigsaw challenge has been completed by borrowers and volunteers. I even managed to find time to put in a few pieces. Apparently the next one will be a 3-D one! The jigsaws have been tidied and re-arranged roughly into categories to make it easier for those people who want to borrow one. If you have any in good condition, please donate them to our borrowing scheme. We are still holding a Bridge for beginners’ class on Monday afternoons if you are looking for a way to pass the time on a winter’s day. WEEKLY CLASSES There will be no Yoga in December. Caroline backs Chris Clark wheelchair appeal Caroline Flint joined Civic Mayor Linda Curran, Hatfield councillor Derek Smith and local residents for a fundraiser for Dunscroft resident Chris Clark, who requires a specialist wheelchair after a double leg amputation. Said Caroline: “The community has rallied round Chris Clark, who has really been through a tough time. Congratulations to Tracey Wilkins and Neil Dunn who have organised the fundraising with a target, initially, of £5,000 for his specialist wheelchair, then further funds to adapt his new home. “Chris has had to cope with a triple heart bypass, kidney failure and diabetes leading to the loss of both legs. He endured seven operations in three months; and now is determined to regain his independence.” To donate to Chris’s appeal to Go Fund Me “Get Chris Clarke Specialist Wheelchair” Photo shows left to right Johnny Clark (Chris’ dad), Civic mayor Linda Curran, Tracey Wilkin, Chris Clark, Neil Dunn and Caroline Flint. The club, called Wednesday Music Club, invites curious young people to try something new and enjoy a wide range of activities, from songwriting to playing in a band. Wednesday Music Club will start at The Point, on South Parade, with taster sessions on Wednesday 20th and 27th November, 4 – 5.30pm. The club will then take place every Wednesday at The Point from 8th January, 4 – 5.30pm, during school term time. No experience is needed and you don’t need to know how to play an instrument. Musician, Dyzelle Sutherland said: “We can’t wait to meet young people from our local neighbourhoods in central Doncaster and from across the borough.” “Whether you are interested in music tech or just want to meet other young people who love music, everyone is welcome to join this friendly, free and inclusive music club”. Wendy, a parent who attended a music session at The Point over the summer holidays, said: “As someone who first language isn’t English, The Point was completely new to me – but I know it’s a great place for my children.” “It’s nice to know they’re doing something fun, and it’s definitely encouraged us to join one of the future workshops here.” To find out more about Wednesday Music Club and book your place, visit www.thepoint.org.uk/whats-on

Community News The November Work Party on Quarry Park concentrated on replacing some oak trees on the 100 Oaks Route which had died during the hot periods this year. Initially to be carried out over 2 days it was decided to complete the work in just one session due to a bad weather forecast for the Saturday. This was made possible by the support from the Rangers at Sandall Beat who organised additional manpower from Warren House Park volunteers. It was a long but rewarding & successful session made easier with 17 volunteers. Sadly, this was the last Work Party under the guidance of Ranger Dennis Roe who has given us much support & advice over many years. Dennis was formerly thanked with tea & cakes of course; he will be greatly missed. Thankfully this is not the end of our support from Sandall Beat & we look forward to forging a new working relationship with his successor. The next Work Party will be on Friday December 6th, 10am to 12am meeting at the Green Flag pole. We would welcome new volunteers to help us on this beautiful site. As always, equipment & refreshments will be provided. Get in touch via The Friends of Quarry Park Facebook page or email thequarrypark@gmail.com & check notice boards for information.

HATFIELD WOODHOUSE AMATEUR GARDENING SOCIETY Hatfield Woodhouse Amateur Gardening Society held its Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 5th November at Hatfield Woodhouse Club. This was the time for looking back at the previous year, and looking forward to the next. The Chairman, John Brown, welcomed everybody to the meeting. He noted that once again we had had two successful shows and at both of these he judges had commented on the continuing high standard of the entries. John also remarked that we have had some very good speakers this year. The Society also had an outing to Breezy Knees Gardens, near York, in August. The committee for the next year is: President/ Chairman John Brown; Treasurer Lesley Colwill; Minute Secretary, Rita Chafen; Deputy Minute Sectretary/Committee Member Val Geoghegan; Membership Secretary Brenda White; Trophy Secretary Phil Geoghegan; Speaker Finder Pam Banks; Raffle Secretary Joan Brown; Committee Members Geoff Firth, Terry Gibbs and Mel Reed. We are already looking forward to next March when the Spring Show will be held on Saturday March 14 at the Hatfield Club. Schedules are now available and can be picked up at the monthly meetings. Free Exhibition by Thorne Camera Club Members of the public are welcome at a free photographic exhibition organised by the Camera Club in Moorends Library from November 18th. The members work on their photographs all year, producing some excellent pictures, some of which are presented to judges and salons for their views. Now it’s your turn. Go along and see what you think, have a chat with some members, they are a friendly bunch. Talk about the images on display, about cameras, the camera club, or any other topic of conversation except Brexit! For inspiration and admiration, the work of visiting speaker Emma Littlefair-Shepherd was outstanding. A young, talented photographer -come-artist, her presentation ‘Pushing Photography to the Limits’ showed what, with skill, dedication and a large amount of imagination, can be achieved with digital photography. Verging sometimes on commercial work, sometimes on utter fantasy, Emma not only showed her work but showed some of her secrets too, and yet every element came from her camera. As a Mum with a family, a home, and a job, it amazed some members that she had the time, let alone the energy, to put so much into her photographic art. Professional Photoshop tutor, Ken Fisher, also paid a visit to the club. As requested by a member, he explained the use of both Lightroom and Photoshop CC. He was very informative and easy to understand, showing the basics as well as the creative side of digital imagery. Because a large number of members use either one or both of these, it was a very useful evening. The next most popular editing software, Affinity, will also feature at some point in the future. The latest competition held at the club was projected images with a theme of Street Photography. Some members relish this type of photography, getting candid shots of people and things happening out and about. Holidays and events are particularly popular, especially when ‘fancy dress’ is involved. Mostly, having got dressed up, people are quite happy to have their photograph taken. Graham Gage from Leeds was the judge on this occasion, and appreciated the efforts of club members who contributed to the competition. Of course, camera club members were out in force for the UCI cycle race which passed through the streets of Thorne, a once in a lifetime opportunity so close to home. New members are always welcome, so come along and see if you like it, free of charge. Or contact David on 07463821182 email thornecameraclub@yahoo.co.uk

Hatfield Woodhouse Primary School By: Lola, Bertie and Mylie

Hello, welcome to Hatfield Woodhouse Primary. We have all been working very hard on all our work and have progressed with the help of are brilliant teachers. Here are some things that have been going on superb, special school… Harvest Festival Our Harvest Festival was an amazing event and we learnt just how lucky we are to have all of this yummy food. All the classes made a zebra cake and competed against each other in a ‘bake off’. We also displayed our shoe boxes which are going to be sent away to children in other countries. Here are some quotes from the Harvest Festival: Mrs Burnett-Smith said, “What a performance!” Jayden said, “ I loved all the jazzy music!” Riley said, “We are so lucky!”

Y5 Whale Making The whole school spent weeks collecting plastic bottles for making a whale sculpture. Eventually we collected enough to use. A man called Dan (a real sculptor!) helped us make this giant whale out of plastic bottles. Imogen told us, “ It was a really fun task! ” Lola commented, “It was fun to know that the creatures of the ocean are safe from plastic pollution Hollowford Y6 went on a residential to Hollow ford for 3 days. They enjoyed their stay and they did many new activities such as the zip wire, rock climbing and much more. Mrs Chesney, their class teacher told us, “This was the best class that I have ever taken to Hollowford. They worked hard as a team!” Nicole told us, “It was really fun, I enjoyed the raft building.” Y4 School Trip Y4 went to Murton Park and adored it. They spent their day as Stone Age people as their topic is called Tribal Tales. Here are some quotes… Miss Turner said, “Y4 really enjoyed their day living the life as a Stone Age person. Skye commented, “We made flower and dressed up as Stone Age people!” They enjoyed really enjoyed it! See You Next Month!
