Community News Firstly, we hope everyone has had a great time over the festive period and those affected by the floods are now beginning to return to some form of normality. Whilst it's a quiet time playing wise there's lots of work ongoing behind the scenes to ensure we can provide the best for our players and community in 2020. Indoor nets are booked and due to start in February, the large number of children and adults of all ages being catered for means we have booked 4 sessions per week. The allocated time for each group will be posted in the New Year keep a lookout on our Facebook page and February's issue for times and venues. The ladies are continuing their indoor season with success and are looking forward to finals day before moving onto the 2020 season, training has been hugely successful and they are hoping to field two sides in the forthcoming 2020 competition. 2020 will see HTCC be one of the ECB's approved 'Dynamos' providers which is an exciting new initiative for those 8-11 year old children that have outgrown All Stars, we will be posting registration details nearer the time. We are also pleased to announce that Sport England have extended our approved £75k pavilion funding offer until the end of March to allow us more time to source matched funding or offers of assistance in kind. We will be working hard to try and find the help we need to bring the much needed new pavilion build to fruition. Anyone interested in helping us with our project or wishing to join the club in any capacity can get in touch with us in the first instance at hatfield.towncc@outlook.com all assistance is greatly appreciated. HTCC

HATFIELD WOODHOUSE AMATEUR GARDENING SOCIETY On Tuesday December 3 the Society celebrated a very successful year at the Christmas Social. We were magnificently entertained by a group of four gentlemen who call themselves Quarto. In two sessions of almost an hour each we heard a succession of funny stories, folk songs, songs which were amusing parodies on well known hymns and songs, and jokes. This group is not just amusingly funny, it is belly laugh funny. In between the sessions we enjoyed a splendid buffet supper. Before the start of the second half the President, John Brown, presented Pam Banks with the President’s Shield. The Shield is presented to the person who gains most points in total in this year’s Spring and Autumn Shows. The next meeting will be on Tuesday 14 January at Hatfield Woodhouse Club. The speaker at this meeting will be Peter Bernard with a presentation about Trees in the Garden, including Fruit Trees. Everybody is welcome, both members and non members. PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS MEETING IS ON THE SECOND TUESDAY OF THE MONTH, 14 JANUARY.

Community News We are the 46th Hatfield Guides. We meet on a Monday at 6:00pm until 8:00pm for girls aged between 10 years to 14 years. We would like to invite you to come and meet us and join us for an evening to see if you would like to join us.

THE FRIENDS OF HATFIELD CHURCH BUILDING TRUST The Friends’ Committee sponsored & decorated a real tree in the St Lawrence Christmas Tree Festival (for The Barn Regeneration Project). There were 29 trees & the theme was TV Programmes so we hope you all enjoyed trying to guess what our programme was. Please look at our Facebook page to see all our up to date news & photo’s. Merry Christmas & a happy new year to all our members & supporters.

The Friends of Quarry Park held a tiring but successful Work Party on Fri 6th Dec with 7 volunteers including 1 new person & 2 DMBC staff. Our main mission was to clip back the hedge along side the car park fence facing into the Park to keep a clear & open outlook. 2 volunteers also did a litter pick, collecting 3 bags of litter. After a welcome break at half time with hot drinks, biscuits & for an extra treat bacon & egg flan & apple crumbles with cream, our mission was complete with perfect timing as the rain started just after we’d downed tools! Many thanks to all our volunteers in 2019, we couldn’t do it without them. The Friends Group have also sponsored & decorated a tree in the St Lawrence Church, Hatfield Christmas Tree Festival which was open over 3 weekends in Dec with 29 real trees to view as well as all sorts of festivities to take part in. The theme was TV Programmes. We have decided to give ourselves a well earned break in January so our next Work Party will be in Feb on Fri 7th. Look out for car park news in the new year... Meanwhile please see our Facebook page & noticeboards for photo’s & updates. Happy & Healthy New Year to all Quarry Park users.

Hatfield Community Library News Item The Library Volunteers would like to wish everyone a wonderful New Year especially if this has been a difficult one. Our Christmas Fayre went very well and we made just over £400 which will all be used to provide more children’s activities during the holidays. Apologies for the missing aromatherapy stall which was due to illness. Thank you to all those people who came to support us. A special thank you to the manager at Tesco Express who donated raffle prizes and Katie at Handgelicnails who also donated a generous prize. The library can only provide extra community services because of the generosity of local people while we are raising funds. Some good news at last about the heating in the library. As borrowers will know, it is either too hot or too cold. (A bit like the porridge in the story of the three bears!) We now have a date for the new heating system to be installed. We will even have heating in the office and toilet!!The library will have to close for two weeks while the work is done. The library will be closed from 4pm on Friday January17th and open om Monday February 3rd. Hopefully then the heating will be just right! The drains in the car park were cleaned out recently so hopefully no-one will have to paddle out to their cars if we have lots of rain. The next job is to have the leaves cleared from the car park. If you want to get out of the house in the winter months, why not join one of our classes in the library? Socialise, make new friends or get fitter. We Know Our Onions Students from XP and XP East Schools, Doncaster, have donated lots of beautiful fresh produce to the Food Bank in Thorne. Planted from seed and nurtured through the summer, the students were very pleased with what they had produced. Once the produce had been harvested, 6 bags of freshly grown beetroot, leeks, carrots and potatoes were delivered to Thorne Food Bank. The volunteers at the Food bank said that the fresh vegetables were amazing and that they would be passed on to their service users.

Thorne Camera Club On Show The free Exhibition currently running at Moorends Library has been well received, and showcases some of the members’ work. If you haven’t been to see it yet, there is still time before it moves on. Members are sometimes available to talk about the photographs, or you can view them at your own pace. There is a Christmas/Winter theme appropriate to the time of year. Current work by members went before a judge for comments recently. The theme of Farm Animals proved quite popular, mostly sheep, pigs and cattle with the odd hen and donkey thrown in. Monty Trent LRPS from Leeds had the unenviable task of selecting those he considered of merit, although everyone received praise and advice in equal measure. Violet Smith’s ‘Don’t tell Porkies’ followed by Michael Jackson, ‘Finger Licking Good’ and Mike Donnison’s ‘Gentle Giant’ were his choices. Highly Commended were Lynda Ulyett, Percy Johnson, and Colin Jarvis,(2). Commended were David Ulyett, Bill Mitchell and Terry Lockwood (2). In the Open section of the competition, Monty could not choose between four photographs, so declared them all Excellent. These were ‘ Sunset over Hurst Point’ by David Ulyett, ‘ High Roller’ by Colin Jarvis, ‘Skyrider’ by Jean Goodburne, also Norman Platts and Malcolm Hayes . Highly Commended were Malcolm Hayes, Lynda Ulyett, Mike Donnison, Colin Jarvis, Bill Mitchell, Norman Platts and Julia Jackson. Commended were Malcolm Hayes, Terry Gunnill, Jean Goodburne, Michael Jackson, and Mike Donnison. As well as competitions, which encourage members to get out and use their cameras, to think about how they take photographs and develop them using a PC, there are tutorials, and practical sessions, sometimes led by members, sometimes by visiting speakers. The use of filters in software was one such subject, and how some members enhanced their images with adjustments and manipulation. From the original image as taken with the camera, members explained how they processed through levels and curves, changed backgrounds by removing or adding elements, sometimes several times, using plug-ins such as Nik filters or Topaz ( there are others ) to bring out more of the colour, detail, texture and sharpness until the final image was presented. It was a very interesting and useful evening, as these processes usually occur at home where no-one else sees them. If you are interested in Photography and would like to go along to a meeting, don’t be shy. You will be made very welcome and you first visit is free of charge. Hello, welcome to Hatfield Woodhouse Primary. It’s been a busy, fun-filled time at school as we prepare for Christmas but it the middle of all the seasonal activities we have all been working very hard and have progressed with the help of our brilliant teachers. Here are some things that have been going on superb, special school… Year 5 Residential - On the 25th of November year 5 went on a residential trip to Kingswood adventure centre. They did lots of activities including: High Ropes, Nightline, Lazer-quest, Aero Ball, Scrap Heap Challenge, Buggy Building and Zip-wire! Here are some quotes about the wonderful trip they had! Imogen told us, “I really enjoyed the zip-wire.” Lawrence said, “I managed to use all of my woodhouse wows on this trip.” James commented, “I felt like a bird on the zip-wire.” Christmas Fayre - On the 2nd of December our whole school, teachers and PTAs raised over £1200.00 in our Christmas Fayre. Everyone loved it. Here are some quotes about the brilliant time we had. Harry said, “It was good fun.” Jenson told us, “I won the big drum on the raffle.” Poppy said, “We raised lots of money for our school!” We all really enjoyed it! Year 4 trip - The Owl Class (year 4) went on a school trip to Lower Derwent Valley Bird Migration Parade Nature Reserve! They loved it. Here are some quotes of what the children thought of the school trip. Connor said, “ We saw a huge bird that was a lantern.” Brooke told us, “It was fun because we made our own lanterns.” Olivier said, “We saw a bat.” Lara said, “It was fun because we watched a man put small rings on birds to say where they were from and were allowed to stroke a barn owl.” The Zipwire
