Community News It's Time to Reflect upon a on Long and Busy Season at HTCC. Despite losing their final fixtures the 1st and 2nd XI's were able to look back on seasons that expected all expectations. The 1st XI finished 2nd and achieved promotion from Division 2 With several of the younger players producing good performances throughout the season and the mid-season signings of Tommy Hyde and Dave Barrett adding further strength to the squad they will be hoping to consolidate in Division 1 next season. The 2nd XI fielded several juniors throughout the season and they all contributed to helping the side tie in 2nd place in Division 5. Young bowlers Josh Platt and Andy Decent, were particularly impressive in taking the league junior bowling honours. They await the league organising next seasons fixtures before knowing which division they will compete in next season. The Sunday League side finished unbeaten to top their Division, in their final fixture they showed great spirit with a sensational comeback to tie with a strong Meborough side, both teams ending 211-9 off 40 overs. It's been a great season by the side made up of players from across all our other sides, a couple of guest players and the juniors again playing regularly and contributing well. The Evening League side finished an unfortunate 2nd in the league when their final fixture was rained off but had more success when winning the Evening Cup in a dark and damp finish at Town Fields against Bentley CC. Well done lads! The Ladies team finished 3rd in their summer tournament and began their indoor fixtures with one win and one defeat in their opening fixtures. Its been great to see the youngsters taking part and doing so well to complement the existing squad. Their participation will hopefully encourage more youngsters to join the squad and provide the team with a long term future. All our junior sides acquitted themselves well throughout the season from Under 9 to Under 13's they have been a pleasure to coach and watch they are a great set of kids for the club and parents to be proud of. The All-Stars programme was a great success with 25 youngsters all enjoying their weekly sessions it was great to see. None of this is possible without the support of our local business sponsors, coaches, captains, parents and our tireless volunteers who work throughout the year to make us a true community club. A massive Thank You to every person that has contributed in any way this season.

DONCASTER CANCER DETECTION TRUST Here we are hurtling towards the end of the year and preparations have gathered pace for our Memory Tree event in Frenchgate….see below. We have received donations from some wonderful people who have taken our prostate cancer appeal to heart. Darren held a coffee morning in his garden (with marquees to shelter from the rain!), plus a raffle with prizes donated from local firms, and raised £550! Thank you so much for all your hard work. We have had donations from people celebrating special birthdays and anniversaries and requesting donations in lieu of presents. Our regular coffee morning ladies in Hatfield also continue to support us for which we are very grateful. Space limits us to mention everyone, but all our latest news is on the website, although we appreciate not everyone has a computer. At the time of writing (early October) we had reached £33,200. Our annual Memory Tree event in the Frenchgate Centre starts Monday, 25th November until Friday, 20th December. We hope to be downstairs outside Boots from 10am to 3pm Monday to Saturday. We have chosen some lovely new tree decorations this year so please come along and see us, have a chat and buy a token in memory of your loved one. If you have any fundraising ideas or would like to be a volunteer please do get in touch with us. Our contact details are: 22 Wood Street, Doncaster DN1 3LW (entrance by the side of Kerry Gough Florists), second floor (lift available), Room 209. Tel. 01302 325029. Email: info@dcdt.co.uk. Website: dcdt.co.uk. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our Memory Tree stand.

Hatfield Community Library News Item The nights are drawing in so this may be the time to became a library member if you are not already one. We have a good selection of books available and access to books from other libraries if they are not on our shelves. There is nothing better than curling up in the warmth with a book to read. I have been working my way through the Lee Child Jack Reacher books. I think I am half way through the list. In between I have read some Linwood Barclay who is an author I have not tried before. I also have some Peter May and Peter James books to try. Edward Marston provides a variety of historical settings for his “who done it books” or if I am being grammatically correct, “who did it books.” Half Term Activity - LAB RASCALS Thursday October 31st. 2:30-3:30 This is a science based activity connected to Halloween but the activity is only suitable for children between 8 and 12. The number is limited to 30 children so booking is essential. This was a popular and exciting event last year. The library floor disappeared in a cloud of dry ice. School Visit. We were happy to welcome 58 children from Crookesbroom Academy who came to visit us at the library. Mary told them a bit about the library and read a story. After a break, the children looked at the books. They were well behaved and enjoyed their visit. We enjoyed answering the questions but were stumped on the one about how many books were in the library. UCI Bicycle Race. We watched both races from outside the library. As the wind became stronger, the Horse Chestnut tree across the road began to rain conkers on everyone. Thanks to a valiant effort from a gentleman with a broom, the road was kept clear and safe for the cyclists. I have never seen so many conkers. When I was a child, that would have been every boy’s dream because a game of conkers was a popular pastime. The heavy rain caused huge standing puddles in the car park so it meant having to paddle out to cars at times. The problem has been reported. The weeds also experienced a revival but have again been zapped so the car park is looking better. WEEKLY CLASSES, The art class has moved to Wednesday morning. MONDAY (In Term time only) Rhyme Time 10:3-11:30 Children’s stories and songs. This is a fun session for pre-school children and parents/carers. Very young children are welcome. The activities include songs, dough disco and crafts. Parents can stay on afterwards and have a chat and coffee or read to their children. Refreshments are included. (Free activity). Bridge 1:30pm for beginners and improvers. (free activity). Yoga for all £5 per session or £20 for 5 sessions 6:308:00 TUESDAY. Games café 10:30-12:30 Join us in the library to play a variety of games. Refreshments are provided. (Free activity). Readers’ group on the last Tuesday of the month 2:00-3:00pm. We read a variety of books and most of us have read and enjoyed books which we might otherwise have passed over on the shelf. Books are provided by the library service. (Free activity). Yoga for all 6:30-8:00pm WEDNESDAY. Supported Yoga (Chair Yoga) 3:00-4:00pm. Yoga for All 4:30-6:00pm. Yoga for all 6:30-8:00pm. Yoga is an excellent way to keep your body supple. The classes are suitable for a range of abilities as Judy, who runs the classes, makes sure everyone can do the exercises within their capabilities. (£5 a session or £20 for 5 sessions) Art Class 1:45-3:45 Tuition from an artist is available to help beginners and experienced artists. New members are welcome. You do not have be good at art to enjoy this class. A recent member had no art experience but is turning out some great pictures (£30 for 4 weeks) Friday. Needles and Pins twice a month. 10:30-12:30. This is a friendly craft group which would welcome new members New members are always welcome to these groups. Please ring the library for more information about any courses. It is important to check, particularly in the holiday times, that these courses are on. The Yoga and art classes do have a charge for tutoring. Yoga is £5 a session or 5 sessions for £20. Art £30 every 4 week Tel. 01302 842064 email: hatfieldcommunitylibrary@gmail.com facebook (We think)

HATFIELD WOODHOUSE AMATEUR GARDENING SOCIETY Unusually the first day of the month of October coincided with the first Tuesday of the month, so this month’s meeting was as early in the calendar as it could be. And our audience on the evening had a real treat. Our speaker was Dr Ruth Brompton Charlsworth and her subject “Agatha Christie’s Gardens”. Ruth is both a keen gardener and a great fan, now as expert, of Agatha Christie’s books. The author was a keen gardener, and references to her hobby turn up in lots of the thrillers. There are many references in the Miss Marple books who was portrayed as a gardener and is Ruth’s favourite Christie character. The gardening references to popular species of plants and shrubs are a record to the times in which the books are written and they were all written in the then present day. There are some reminders of changes in availability, for instance very potent poisons were easily available in the past and could be used unscrupulously by certain Christie characters, and also there are many poisonous plants in our gardens which feature in the books. We had an entertaining evening, even though we saw a macabre side of gardening. Next month, on Tuesday 5 November we hold our Annual General meeting at which the committee for next year will be elected, and members will be able to give the ideas of what we could do in the coming year. The meeting will be followed by one of Pam Banks’ quizzes. This meeting will be in Hatfield Woodhouse Club commencing at 7-30pm. Then on 3 December we will be holding our Christmas Celebration. Once again, the entertainment group Quarto will provide the music and laughs, and there will also be a buffet supper. This event is free for members and £5 for guests and will be held at the Hatfield Woodhouse Club starting at 7pm NOTE THE EARLIER STARTING TIME FOR THIS ONE EVENT.

Autumn at Thorne Camera Club The new season got under way with a social evening at the Punch Bowl, well attended by members and guests. The Summer holidays and the Autumn Programme were among the topics of discussion, as members readied themselves for the busy months ahead. New members are welcomed, and the first visit is free of charge, so if you have an interest in Photography, go along and see for yourself. Meetings are on a Monday evening starting 7.30pm in the Methodist Church Hall, arrive early and introduce yourself. A Blast from the Past was the order of the day at the first meeting, a very retro presentation. Using an old fashioned slide projector, a little temperamental in its old age, images from the past were shown in the old fashioned way. Many of you will remember the days of darkened rooms and a slide show of holiday pictures, especially when foreign travel was a real novelty. Luckily, there was also a modern digital projector and members brought their more recent digital images to share with others as well. Brian Crossland LRPS came along from Barnsley to judge the first competition of the season. The theme was Waterfalls, inspired by a club outing to the Yorkshire Dales where a number of waterfalls were available to photograph for those able or willing to clamber around to get the best shot. Some excellent photographs were presented to Brian for his opinion, and, spoilt for choice, he eventually chose ‘River Falls’ by Terry Gunnill first, with another by Terry, ‘West Burton 2’ runner-up. As third Jackie Woodward’s ‘Crystal Clear Water’. Highly Commended were David Ulyett, Lynda Ulyett and Jackie Woodward, Commended were Michael Ferrand, Lynda Rhodes, Colin Jarvis and Malcolm Hayes. The photos in the Open section were many and varied, as just about anything goes in the Open. Chosen first was David Ulyett’s ‘Shores of Loch Long’ with Bill Mitchell’s ‘Hoverfly’ second and Lynda Rhodes ‘The Potting Shed’ third. In this section those Highly Commended were Terry Lockwood, Colin Jarvis, and David Ulyett and Commended were Trevor Holt and Malcolm Hayes. Doncaster Deep Unfortunately, a meeting had to be cancelled due Cleaning Solutions to unforeseen circumstances, and apologies go to anyone who turned up at the Methodist Church End of Tenancy Deep Cleans that night expecting to attend. Hatfield Woodhouse Primary School By: Lola, Bertie and Mylie

Hello, welcome to Hatfield Woodhouse Primary. We have all been working very hard on all our work and have progressed with the help of our brilliant teachers. Here are some things that have been going on superb, special school… UCI Championships Hatfield Woodhouse had a brilliant afternoon out watching the UCI championships pass through Hatfield. We all enjoyed the colourful jerseys go past us. It was a fun but an exhausting journey . Mrs Walker said, “I loved all of the colours of the bikes and jerseys.” Mrs Acton said, “I was so proud how sensible our children were when we went to watch the UCI cycle race on Jubilee Bridge. It was an amazing experience until the rain came down and we returned to school soaked!”

Year Two’s Trip to Sandal Beat Wood Year 1 and 2 loved their school trip to Sandal Beat Wood. They did lots of fun activities such as building pirate ships and cooking food on fire. Jaden said, “We built pirate ships, IT WAS FUN!” Alfie said, “ It was fun and we followed a map!” Noah said, “It was amazing.” New Teacher in School! Mr Green is our new teacher for a couple of months and has filled in for our amazing teacher Miss Turner while she recovers from surgery. Here is a quote from Mr Green, “I am enjoying teaching a fabulous class year 4 and talking to all the friendly staff.” And here are some quotes from the year 4 pupils. Olivia says, “I like him but I do miss Miss Turner.” Chace says, “He is the best teacher ever.” Blake says (year 5) “He is an excellent teacher”. Lawrence says, “He is an outstanding sport teacher.” Jayden says, “He is an amazing P.E teacher.” Harvest Festival We have just celebrated our Harvest Festival. It was great fun because we had a Bake-Off where each class baked a zebra cake and the ladies from our office and Mr Nichols (our sports teacher) judged them. Year 2 and Year 6 won. We all brought toys and toiletries to put into shoeboxes to send to children from other countries who don’t have Christmas presents. Thank you for reading this month’s Hatfield Arrow. See you next month!
