Friends of Quarry Park

The Friends held their Community Coffee Morning on Saturday 27th July at Hatfield Library. It was a very busy morning with lots going on.

We were joined by other community groups too, including The Friends of Jubilee Park who were outside selling plants; Pete Bullers with his handmade bird boxes. We also had Pat with her beautiful decoupage gifts and the Friends of Hatfield Church Building Trust selling their preloved jewellery. Vera was tempting us with her delicious homemade preserves, and the DN7 Foodbank held a biscuit tombola. Hatfield Cubs ran a Guess the Playing Card game and sold tickets for the library’s bicycle raffle.

We had 3 special guests, Clive Smith from the Rotary Club of Doncaster St George's (who funded the event), our new vicar of St Lawrence Chris Bishop and our new MP Lee Pitcher as well as lots of other regular supporters and a few new faces who all made it a successful event.

Grateful thanks for the donation of raffle prizes to Sarah Jane’s Tearoom, Tesco at Edenthorpe, Dunsville Post Office; The Flare Path, Dunsville, and Janet, Pat and Paul. We raised a terrific £287.85 for group funds, which will help towards buying more bulbs, etc for the park and equipment for our volunteers. Thank you to everyone who supported this event.

On Tuesday 30th July, we raised our new Green Flag for 2024/25. Thank you to everyone who came along. The Friends work tirelessly throughout the year to improve the park for visitors and help ensure we retain green flag status. Huge thanks go to the Doncaster Council Rangers, Street Scene and, of course, our amazing volunteers for their continued support.

Hatfield Town Cricket Club

With the junior fixtures coming to a close it's a good time to reflect on what has been a busy and productive year for all our age groups.

We started in early April with a brand new group of Under 9's and whilst it took some time to get used to the games and rules they then began to show great improvement and amazing enthusiasm for the game. The performances improved week on week with more runs scored and less wickets conceded and they even managed a win! They continue to train every Monday and Friday evening and will be looking good for next season.

It was evident at pre-season nets that with over 30 children attending practice with a wide range of experience and ability that the Under 11's would need to have two teams and so it proved. The inexperienced Blues had their first taste of Hardball cricket and did excellently to pick up a couple of wins and showed they will be a good team in their 2nd Under 11 year next season. The Reds meanwhile showed that hard work does pay off by moving from last years bottom position to unbeaten league winners and narrowly missing out on a cup win by just 15 runs as well. Oscar, Sam and Freddy gained District honours, whilst Sophie made her Yorkshire Girls debut. A great effort by everyone involved! They are preparing for next season with training on Thursday and Friday evenings.

The Under 13's had several newcomers in the squad and they quickly fitted in with the existing players and it resulted in a 2nd place league with just 2 defeats in close games and some exciting wins along the way with a rain abandoned fixture costing them top place. They also made the cup semi-final with Elliot making it into the District side and others looking like club and District players for years to come. The next couple of seasons look very exciting for this group if they keep on this path as they move into the Under 15's. They have already had one end of season friendly and will be looking to arrange other fixtures.

Our largely inexperienced Under 15's produced some top performances but unfortunately some inconsistency saw then finish in 3rd place but reach the cup semi-final, it was a successful season for the team. James and Jacob made the District squad and have also become Sunday side regulars, having also contributed well in some 2nd XI victories. We are expecting them to be competing well next season and providing the club with more senior players for the future Our sides all had a good mix of boys and girls in the teams which bodes well for both the mens and womens senior teams.

We would like to thank all our junior team sponsors; CM Developments Ltd, Boston Park Far, MSN Electrical Ltd and Arksey School of Motoring for their continued support, it is much appreciated and needed. Thank you everyone!!

If any boys or girls want to join any of the squads feel free to come along to Carr Side Lane on Friday evenings and meet the coaches
