News from Brigley House Xmas lights. We set out with a target to try and beat last years £2,700 raised for Team Verrico and back in November we set our formal target to £3,000. It was a big ask .... but we are delighted to have raised an amazing £3,300 ! Thank you to you and the Arrow readers from across the Isle for your amazing support and helping achieve this total - your coverage and kind donations helped us achieve our target and a lot more for Pride Of The Isle. Wishing you all a great 2018 - hopefully we will see you back in November for this years show !
Charity Concert by Joint Isle Choirs. Well known local choirs, The Isle Choral and St Cecilia Singers, will join together for a concert in aid of the charity “Wish Upon a Star” in order to raise funds to grant the wishes of children with life threatening illnesses. The concert will be held in St Andrew’s Parish Church Epworth at 3.00pm on Saturday, 24th February 2018. A varied programme to suit most tastes is planned along with solos by local musicians. If seating is available payment can be made on entry, but tickets can be purchased beforehand from members of the choirs. Refreshments are included in the cost of tickets at £8.00 for adults, £4.00 for students, accompanied children under 14 years free of charge. Further details of the “Wish Upon a Star” charity can be found on their website. For telephone enquires contact 01427 871485 or 01427 873898. We are hearing more and more that singing is good for our health, so if you enjoy singing but are not sure if it is for you why not come along to one of our rehearsals? The Isle Choral Singers are a friendly group and were originally formed as an educational class in the 1980’s with the purpose of bringing the arts through music to a rural area, by arranging concerts in local churches in the Isle of Axholme. We now meet on Monday evenings in the Imperial Hall, Epworth from 7.00 pm.

Team grows to reduce the time it takes to move house! The Residential Conveyancing Department at Sills & Betteridge Solicitors in Scunthorpe continues to grow with the recent appointment of two new team members. Jessica Shaw and Sally Fairless join the firm from other local Solicitor Practices to expand the team at Oswald Road. Jess, who has worked in conveyancing for 8 years, deals with residential property sales and purchases, remortgages, transfers of equity and Help to Buy transactions. Sally will assist Jess in all of these areas, deal with client enquiries and The Residential Conveyancing Team at Scunthorpe - Tiffany Smith, Jessica Shaw, Dawn Dean, Sally Fairless help to ensure the smooth running of the matter. Branch Manager Tiffany Smith is delighted to welcome Jess and Sally to her team. “We pride ourselves on our high standards of client care and efficiency, and recognise that to be able to continue to offer this to a growing number of clients, we needed a bigger team. To have Jess and Sally join us, with their combined experience of conveyancing and knowledge of the local area is a great development for us and for our clients. I hope they will be very happy.” With efficiency in mind, the Department has also recently started using the Redbrick Practice Management System - a customised solution which includes numerous administrative and compliance tasks as well as Searches, Stamp Duty Land Tax, Anti Money Laundering, Land Registry and Case Tracking features. Joining the Branch earlier this year was Solicitor Suzanne Currie, a specialist later life planning advisor. Originally from Northern Ireland, Suzanne relocated to North Lincolnshire in 2012 and deals with all aspects of Wills, Trusts & Probate, including Lasting Powers of Attorney, Care Home Fee and Inheritance Tax planning and Court of Protection matters. Scunthorpe is one of the firm’s nine office locations across Lincolnshire and Nottingham. The firm deals with all areas of personal and commercial law.

On Friday 5th January we were very excited to celebrate this year's Haxey Hood by welcoming the Fool, the Lord of the Hood, and all of the Boggins, including the Chief Boggin, into our assembly. They shared with us the story of how the Hood tradition started over 650 years ago and passed the actual Hood around so that we all had the chance to hold it. Then we got to ask lots of questions and found out information about what the Boggins do, what the Lord of the Hood, the Chief Boggin and the Fool have on their hats, and why we have to smoke the Fool and paint his face. To finish our assembly, our visitors sang "Farmer's Boy", which sounded absolutely fantastic! Prior to the assembly itself, we were visited by a camera crew from ITV's Calendar News. The crew Martin Richards were filming the fool, Lord and Boggins singing outside our school to representatives of our school council and our head teacher Mrs Buckle. The Eagle eyed amongst you may have caught the evening news on the 5th. We hope you enjoyed the performance! We are delighted to help spread the legend of the hood and will continue to this, so that we can encourage our future generations to take part in the event in years to come. Lots of us went to the Hood itself on Saturday and had a great day, even if we all got very muddy! Congratulations to the Carpenters Arms of Westwoodside, the winner of this year's hood. Thank you Mrs Thorpe of The Wonderful Years for providing us with some super pictures.

Prior to the end of last term, our children in FS2 enjoyed a visit to Perlethorpe for the Nativity Experience. They began their journey from 'Nazareth' however there was no room for them. They traveled to 'Bethlehem' where they thankfully found room in a stable. Along with KS1, FS2 also put on a fantastic performance of 'The Landlord's Cat', our version of the classic nativity. The children were fantastic and gained rave reviews from the audience. Our new lay by is up and running and it's all going well. We would like to thank those parents and carers who are using this facility sensibly when dropping off and picking up children from school. To make its use even more effective, we would like to encourage people to park as close as possible to the car in front so that even more space is created for other vehicles, and to avoid parking in the road side, particularly of the opposite side of the lay by's exit. Yellow lines are still under review, which may be avoidable if users follow our advice.

These two beautiful girls are sisters Sasja & Theia who are 6 years old, and have been handed into the Rescue by their owners, who could sadly no longer keep them. They are lovely, affectionate cats- rather quiet and shy at first, and we would like to rehome them as a pair if possible. They are not good with other cats, and haven’t been around dogs, so would be best as only pets in a quieter home. They have been indoor cats, so would be suitable for a home with no outside space. These gorgeous girls are spayed, fully vaccinated and micro-chipped. If you would like to come and meet them, please give Isle Rescue a call on 01427 728705
