Rescue Day 2020 – CANCELLED It is with regret that Rescue Day 2020, which was due to be held on Saturday 11th July at 7 Lakes Country Park, Crowle has been cancelled, following the latest guidance from the UK Government and Public Health England in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. Several of our organisers are employed by our emergency and health services and along with our stakeholders, who support the planning and delivery of Rescue Day are all under extreme pressure at this time, therefore regrettably a joint decision has been taken to cancel the event. Chris Long, Chair of the Rescue Day Society, said “We thank our hosts 7 Lakes Country Park and all our organisers, officials, volunteers, exhibitors and their families for their support during these unprecedented times. This decision has not been taken lightly and in partnership with our key stakeholders we need to ensure the safety of our visitors, exhibitors, emergency and rescue services. Furthermore, our social responsibilities extend to the broader population and the potential drain on valuable public health resources on which we are all reliant.” Rescue Day remains committed to promoting the great work of our emergency and voluntary services, raising money for charities and good causes, it has funded many lifesaving public defibrillators and equipment which have been placed in local communities. We know our visitors and exhibitors will be sad to hear that this year’s event has been cancelled, however we are pleased to let you know that Rescue Day will return in 2021 on Saturday 10th July 2021 and we look forward to welcoming you all back next year.

DEADLINE FOR LOCKDOWN ART COMPETITION EXTENDED The closing date for children's entries to Misterton Parish Council’s 'lockdown' art competition has been extended until the end of June. Pictures should show support for essential workers: anyone who has kept the community going during the lockdown. Send pictures to Clerk to the Parish Council (theclerk@misterton-notts-pcc.gov.uk) and post on the Parish Council’s Facebook page (https:// www.facebook.com/MistertonPC/) There are prizes for the three best entries, judged once the Parish Council starts meeting again. When the Parish Council set up the competition, the return-to-school date was unknown. And the Parish Council won't be meeting in person for a while yet - so more time to get entries in!

Epworth Music Day With the still developing Covid-19 situation, we have been reviewing what to do about Epworth Music Day on 20th June. We know how much this event means to so many people in Epworth and beyond: musicians, singers, shops, cafes and pubs as well as everyone who comes to enjoy the music. We live in the community and aim to put on an event which is not only good fun, but is also safe. At this time, ‘safe’ includes personal health. No-one knows how this virus will pan out; we can only see what’s happening at present and listen to those with greater knowledge. If the virus remains widespread in the community, we realise that we’ll have few if any performers and audience members. Today, the Government announced that all pubs, restaurants and bars will shut. This will also mean that the venues we use will not be open and available to us. From this time of year onwards, the organisers carry out a lot of work behind the scenes: ensuring that various facilities are in place for the day; programming the performers for the different venues; and getting the publicity and the website in order; and more besides. We can’t wait for another month or 2 before we make a decision because this work has to be done now. So, we’ve regrettably decided that Epworth Music Day 2020 will be cancelled. We plan to hold next year’s on Saturday 19 June 2021. We had a full list of performers lined up for this June. They’ll have the first call on a place on the programme for next year if they’re able and want to attend. Meanwhile, if the social restrictions are miraculously lifted before 20 June this year, maybe some musicians will come out and entertain us? It would be a real treat, however limited in scale. We would like to thank you for your support for Epworth Music Day. We’ll be back in touch in time for next year’s event. Please help us to spread this news.

Lock down at the Nursery Never in 23 years has Coneygarth Farm Day Nursery been shut for so long – what a strange time. The lockdown has been hard for everyone, from the choice to close the doors, to keeping our and staff mental health and wellbeing good to all the paperwork and red tape it has been exhausting. While most people do all they can to help the NHS by staying at home, business owners are in full swing keeping their accounts and fundamental running. On top of this the furlough accounts need collating and sorting out and to make it more difficult all our staff can not be furloughed by the government. Working countless hours however is just the tip of the iceberg, the emotional turmoil gets deep beneath the skin; how long will this last? When will the funding stop? What will the world be like after the pandemic? Despite these anxieties we need to keep slogging away doing what we can to survive and get back to normal life. Life carries on, on the farm. While arable farmers are self-isolating in their tractors sowing and planting all the crops, livestock farmers like ourselves are busy with all the springtime jobs including calving and lambing. It has just been so quiet around the farm, no excitement from the children, no noise and laughter, no questions, eerily quiet! And the children missed seeing the cows and calves being turned out to grass after a long winter, skipping and running around. The guinea pigs, tortoises, chickens etc., are all being cared for very well, with Derrick being designated eggs collector. All the seeds and plants have been planted up in the vegetable garden without the fun of doing it with the children At the time of writing we have had some rain and the grass hast started to grow (thank goodness) so we are looking forward to silage or hay time. Will the children be able to watch the machines working? - who knows! We are looking forward to getting back into business and welcoming all the staff and children back, we have had some new play equipment fitted and can’t wait to see the children enjoying it.

MISTERTON FARMER SHOWS SUPPORT FOR NHS Misterton’s Beetroot UK has found a novel way to show support for the NHS: by carving out the three letters 30m tall and 20m wide. In the video footage (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gweDWi1fHJE), driver Dean Hobson marks out the letters with a drag rake in just five minutes and in one take. Owner, Graham White, said the idea came as the Government began emergency restrictions to deal with Coronavirus. In an interview, he said: “The NHS is outstanding because staff are putting their lives at risk. This is a worldwide problem and so health services deserve some appreciation.” The idea was to cheer up his workers and his family - who all work for the family-run business. He added: “We’ve been through a real hard time with the weather this year, so we were a bit fed-up anyway. The weather got better then this horrible disease arrived.”

As a charity we are already under great financial pressures. The outbreak of Covid-19 (Coronavirus) only adds further pressure, as we’ve lost the ability to generate sustainable income streams overnight, this will severely impact on our limited financial resources. The reduction in income could have a devastating impact on our ability to continue caring for the thousands of local people who rely on our services annually. As a charity, we rely almost entirely on the donations and generosity of you, our local community. Sadly, following the cancellation and postponement of our fundraising activities, we’re now anticipating a loss of income in excess of £500,000. Even at this very difficult time, our Inpatient Unit remains fully operational, and our clinical team are working tirelessly 24/7 to support local patients and families at the hardest, most difficult time in their lives.

We’re excited to reveal that this year our Open Gardens scheme is going virtual! Due to the impact of Covid19 restrictions one of our longest running and best loved fundraisers is turning virtual for its 2020 programme. So we’re asking all green fingered gardening enthusiasts to get involved and digitally showcase their gardens to the public this summer. For further information please email llh.enquiries@nhs.net

Pastel painting to commemorate VE day.

I wanted to use genuine footage on which to base a painting and initially considered a military picture. I then thought as most of the scenes of European warfare were effectively over by 8th May 1945 (notwithstanding the absolute horrors of the concentration camps) it might be better to concentrate on the joys. I therefore combined two well known black and white photographs of celebrations with the intentions of showing still in black and white but emphasising the Union Jack in stark contrast. hence the result. The finished piece is 18"x26" (45X65cm)

CORONAVIRUS SCAMMERS ABOUT! Fraudsters are using the Coronavirus pandemic to try and get financial details from anxious folks. Read all about their efforts - and how to avoid them - in the attached leaflet. Keep safe do not respond to an unexpected e-mail, and don't click on a link in such an e-mail. Fraudsters have mined e-mail addresses and are sending out messages in other people's names - check carefully to see if the wording is actually how your friend, relative, or workmate would write to you. And check for spelling mistakes - another common giveaway.
