This very cute boy is Wolfie, a 5 year old Jack Russell. Wolfie is a really friendly, happy boy who just loves a fuss and going for walks. He would be best as an only pet in a home where there are no young children, as he is not used to kids. He would be an ideal companion for an active older person with terrier experience, and where someone is at home for a lot of the time to keep him company. Wolfie is neutered, fully vaccinated and micro-chipped. Please call Isle Rescue on 01427 728705 for more details

Community News The Epworth and Isle of Axholme annual quiz night at the Thurlow in Epworth was again a thumping success. For the second year running the event was over subscribed, raising over £900 in support of Lindsey Lodge Hospice. Local businesses were again very generous, donated some great prizes for the raffle, thank you to all. The pie and pea supper went down a treat, and all enjoyed a very fun evening.
Joint Concert by Isle & American Choirs The Isle Choral Singers have had an invitation to join with the Albany First Methodist Church choir from Oregon, USA, for a concert to be held at 3.00 pm on Sunday, 24th June, in St Andrew’s Parish Church, Epworth. Admission cost is £7.00 adults, £3.50 students and accompanied children under 14 free of charge. Tickets are available from the church, choir members or pay at the door. For more details telephone Concert Secretary, Helen Warnes on 01427 871485. Our American friends love to come to Epworth as part of the Wesley trail experience and a visit to St Andrew’s
church, where Reverend Samuel Wesley was Rector of Epworth and the Wesley family worshipped, is at the heart of their visit. So we hope to enhance that experience by a capacity audience. The Isle Choral Singers will be involved in Epworth Music Day on the previous day, 23rd June, so it will be a busy weekend. Our Summer concert will be in St Andrew’s Parish Church on 15th July, when we always plan for music to suit a Summer Evening. More details and tickets will be available nearer the time. For anyone interested in finding out more about the Isle Choral Singers please check us out on facebook, website or telephone enquiries to Concert Secretary, Helen Warnes, on 01427 871485. Rehearsals are held every Monday from 7.00 pm in the Imperial Hall, Epworth.
A BIG thank you to everyone who came and supported the tea party in aid of Dementia UK, along with the people who baked cakes etc and helped in many way's. It was a GREAT SUCCESS and with some great donations we were able to raise the wonderful sum of £1207.

Excitement Builds For Rescue Day 2018 Excitement is building for this year’s Rescue Day at 7 Lakes Country Park, Crowle, near Scunthorpe, which is being held on Saturday 7th July. 999 and rescue teams from across the region are set to descend on 7 Lakes for the annual emergency services day. The event, which first started in 2008, showcases the excellent work that our emergency teams do and allows for the general public to engage with the staff and volunteers who serve and protect us around the clock. It is the biggest of its kind in the country and attracts crowds in the thousands. The day is one for all the family and is an action packed mix of live fire, rescue, rail and water displays and involves fire, police, ambulance, water rescue, road and rail agencies and more. The legendary Red Devils parachute display team are due to make another spectacular entrance to Rescue Day again this year, by performing a parachute landing into the main lake and will be picked up by a flotilla of rescue boat teams. Plus everyone’s favourite furry water rescue dogs from Pete Lewin Newfoundlands will be showing off their skills in the lake. As well as all the high octane displays there will be lots of opportunities to meet and talk to emergency services staff, see vehicles and equipment and take part in interactive displays. The day is organised by a team comprising of frontline fire, ambulance and police personnel from across the North Lincolnshire area and beyond who volunteer their time to run the event. Chris Long, Joint Event Director said: “As always they’ll be lots to see and do, and it really is a day that all the family can enjoy, children and adults alike. We hope those that have been to Rescue Day before will come along again this year to celebrate our 10th year anniversary, and those that haven’t been before will come and experience this unique and exciting event.” The purpose of Rescue Day is to bring together as many rescue services as possible in one place to demonstrate what they do and how they do it. The day raises public awareness on safety issues such as the dangers of open waters, road safety, fire prevention, drink and drug driving plus general community safety issues combined with an interesting yet fun day out. Gates open at 09:30am and tickets can be purchased in advance from mid May via the website www.rescueday999.com and use discount code RESCUEDAY10 for a special offer of 10% off when purchasing online only. Tickets available on the day at the gate at full price. More information is available on the website, or on social media on Twitter @Rescue_Day and www.facebook.com/rescudedayuk.

Since it first came in to being over 20 years ago, Tia Greyhound and Lurcher Rescue has rehomed around 4,000 greyhounds and is the largest greyhound rescue and rehoming centres in the north of England. At any one me the rescue cares for around 100 greyhounds in our purposed built kennels and helps find forever homes for around 250 dogs a year. It is also a sanctuary for many unwanted horses including many heavy horses such as Shires and Clydesdales. The primary aim of the charity is to re-home the dogs in it’s care, but it offers so much more than that for anyone who wishes to visit! Open daily come rain or shine, visitors have the opportunity to get involved with the care of the greyhounds by walking them in the orchard (10am – 3pm). It also has a dog-friendly café and a shop selling an extensive range of dog accessories, food and gi s. The 70 acre farm is also home to a menagerie of other animals including shaggy Poitou donkeys, miniature donkeys, horses, goats, chicken and sheep, and a children’s play area. Come pay us a visit…entrance is free!
Fundraising events are held regularly throughout the year including carboot sales on the last Sunday of the month throughout the summer. Come and join us at:
Coffee morning – 4th June, 10.30‐12pm Family fun day – 9th June Summer Fair – Sunday 26th August, 11am‐ 4pm. Anyone interested in a stall please contact Janice on—thesimmonds@yahoo.com

This year Crowle Entertainers are presenting Shakespeare's Twelfth Night – one of his most popular comedies. The performances will take place on Saturday 23rd June at 7.30pm and Sunday 24th June at 2.30pm at the Crowle Community Hall. Tickets are priced £5 (£4 concessions) and are available from Crowle Regen Shop and Fancyland, Queen Street, Epworth or by calling 01724 711212 or 07419 319796 or on the door. For lovers of Shakespeare and also for all those who think Shakespeare is not for them – come along and give this a try! We are a community drama group and some of us are probably more frightened of Shakespeare than you are!! The production is set in what was possibly the craziest of all decades - the swinging 1960s. Identical twins Viola and Sebastian set out on a cruise but are shipwrecked and cast up on shore on the sunsoaked coast of Illyria. Each believing the other to be drowned, they set out on their own adventures and seem to find adoring fans wherever they go.

COFFEE MORNING RAISES FUNDS FOR CAMBODIA TRIP Five enterprising young people hosted a coffee morning at Misterton Fire Station this month (Saturday 5 May) to raise funds for their trip to Cambodia in 2019. They raised over £500 towards projects, in Cambodia that they will be working on next summer during their visit. They will be helping disadvantaged children and building accommodation and schools. All are pupils of Queen Elizabeth’s High School, Gainsborough: (pictured from left) Max, Tom, Amelia, Jess, and Peter. They thank everyone who supported their event.
CHESTERFIELD CANAL WALKING FESTIVAL Brochures for September’s walking festival are now available in Misterton Library. Details of the walks between 15-23 September are also on the Chesterfield Canal Trust’s website: http://www.chesterfield-canal-trust.org.uk/chesterfield-canal-walking-festival-programme/ During the week, there are 51 walks, ranging from two miles to the full 46 miles, the length of the Canal. All walks must be booked in advance; bookings open on Monday 4 June and can be done on line or at Chesterfield Visitor Information Centre (CVIC) in person or by phone (01246 345777). All the walks are free except for those led by the Creswell Heritage Trust, whose walk leader will collect £3 on the day. Each walk leader will take a voluntary collection, which will go towards CVIC’s costs to handle bookings. Any extra funds will go towards the Chesterfield Canal Trust’s Restoration Fund.
MONEY HANDOVER TO NEW GALA TEAM Misterton Gala has a new organising team – and the outgoing team has handed over the working capital to ensure the new team has a head start in planning this year’s event. The fund ensures some financial support in the event of cancellation or curtailment of the Gala due to bad weather. Pictured is outgoing team leader, Hazel Brand, (right) handing over a cheque for £2078 to ‘new’ team leader, Nikki Jaggard-Smith. This year’s Gala is on Saturday 7 July, again at the Misterton Driving Range. Bookings for stalls are now being taken – go to the Facebook page to message the organisers, or e-mail mistertongala@gmail.com
