Carrside playing field, Epworth was purchased in 1981 as an extension of Epworth War memorial field. This allowed local sports clubs, such as football, hockey and cricket to have a purpose built ground for their teams. This is completely maintained by volunteers wanting to provide something for the community. Sadly due to lack of interest and the final football team folded last year the field is no longer in use. We keep the field maintained in the

Chapterhouse Theatre Company to appear at Epworth Old Rectory Lincoln based Chapterhouse Theatre Company is bringing Pride and Prejudice to the Old Rectory in Epworth. This will be the first time this company has performed at the Rectory and I'm sure it won't be their last. This is a troupe of eight actors who will interpret the well loved drama often seen on television; the story of intelligent, high spirited and strong young women living in a time when women were considered inferior and had very few rights, just like our story of Susanna Wesley. The Bennett sisters story may be a hundred or so years later, but they, liker Susanna struggled with adversity and won through to a successful outcome. I don't need to tell you the plot - you probably know it from the films just as well as I do, but what will be interesting will be to see how the main characters are portrayed live on our formal lawn. Tickets can be obtained on line or from the Rectory, and do remember to come early and bring your picnic. For more information or enquiries please contact the Rectory on 01427 872268, or simply call in whenever we are open. Cath Fordham

‘ART FANATIC' OPENS ART EXHIBITION District Cllr Maddy Richardson, a long-time supporter of Misterton art group, Brushstrokes, opened the group's 1st exhibition this month (13 April). She is pictured (centre) with the exhibition's organisers, Jo Moss (left) and Sandy Lonsdale. Also welcomed to the exhibition were the Chair of Bassetlaw District Council, Cllr David Challinor, and the Chair of Misterton Parish Council, Peter Marsden, with his wife, Elaine. Dozens of pictures were on display; the event raised £50 for the following: Firefly, Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance, and £50 shared between the good causes supported by District Cllr Hazel Brand during her 2018 long-distance sponsored walk, Dementia Care and Misterton GPs' equipment fund. Around 60 people visited the exhibition – many thanks to them for their support. The exhibition showed what talent there is in Misterton and West Stockwith, and neighbouring villages!

Bransby Horses reveals plans for their Summer Fayre Lincolnshire-based equine charity, Bransby Horses, is hosting their 44th annual Summer Fayre on Sunday 2nd June 2019. Last year, the Summer Fayre attracted a record number of visitors and it is hoped the Fayre this year will be another success for the charity. For many in the area, it is a chance to visit the local gem, take the family for a day out and meet some of the 400 animals the charity looks after across 600 acres of beautiful countryside. Entry to Bransby Horses is free and the charity has confirmed they will have more activities than ever this year. There will be horse demonstrations, a trailer training and loading demonstration, a riding team display, falconry, children’s play zone, arts and crafts, a dog show, dog agility display, shopping (including a second hand tack sale), glitter tattoos, charity stands, a barbecue and a wide selection of food available. There will also be the usual picturesque walkways available to enjoy a stroll, so families can visit some of the horses, donkeys and mules who are living there. Having celebrated their 50th anniversary last year, the charity has also recently confirmed they have almost reached 1,000 equines in their care. More than 400 equines living on site and 500 rehomed but continuing to receive support from the charity. In fact, last year alone, the charity helped rescue and rehabilitate 93 horses, donkeys and mules showing how the role of public support continues to be pivotal to the continuation of the work the charity do. Crowle Rescue Day gives close up access to 999 teams Rescue Day, the emergency services day held annually at 7 Lakes Country Park in Crowle near Scunthorpe, promises yet again to be an action packed event for all the family promoting the work of our 999 and rescue services. This year’s event is being held on Saturday 13th July and planning is already in the advanced stages for what promises to be another day of high octane displays on land, in the water and in the air. Organisers are putting together a full day’s schedule of live emergency and rescue displays with East Midlands Ambulance Service, Humberside Police and Humberside Fire & Rescue Service at the centre of the action, along with many more emergency, rescue and support teams involved. The crew behind running this popular event include many serving local emergency service staff, who come together each year to volunteer and make Rescue Day happen. One of the organising team, Martyn Johnson said: “Our constant aim is to run an event that lets the public get up close and see the great work that our 999 and support services do and how they deal with incidents, as well as the vehicles and equipment they use, which we hope generates a greater appreciation and understanding. We also use the day to give road, rail, water and fire safety tips to help keep our communities safer and we wrap it all up in a fun day that appeals to all of the family.” Regular Rescue Day favourites the Red Devils Parachute Display team will be appearing, along with fire, police, ambulance and water rescue teams who will be performing a range of exciting displays and demonstrations in the idyllic setting of 7 Lakes Country Park. Visitors will be able to meet crews and rescue dogs, see helicopters and take part and interact with the many different teams that will be attending the day. Advanced tickets can be purchased online from www.rescueday999.com from May onwards, or pay on the gate on the day. Follow Rescue Day on social media Twitter: @Rescue_Day or www.facebook.com/rescudedayuk for the latest information.
