Have you heard of the Breakfast Club? It all began in HULL, when a group of ex servicemen got together over breakfast , reliving tales of their military exploits, and to cut a long story short, it has blossomed over the past 2 years, with clubs springing up all over the country, even some in Germany and the USA, Australia, New Zealand. We at the NORTH NOTTS BREAKFAST CLUB, meet every Saturday morning at 10.00 at the RED HART, Misterton. The landlord TREVOR, is an ex serviceman, Royal Engineers, and he manages the catering side, aided by his member of staff Julie. At the moment attendance is at a low level, 5 is the most at one sitting, mainly as we are in competition with RETFORD BC, and NORTH LINCS (Scunthorpe) BC. We are a non profit organisation, no subs, just a regular meet up of veterans of the Armed Forces who meet up, swap banter, stories etc over breakfast, and in some cases these meets lead to more social events, BBQ's in summer.

Community News Misterton Couple’s Festive Fund Raising For First Responders Two kind hearted local residents have yet again raised money for the local Five Villages First Responder team by lighting up their home with hundreds of festive lights over the Christmas period. Sid and Sylvia Burgess of Grove Park, Misterton, decorate the outside of their home and front garden every year with a host of Christmas lights and decorations and collect donations for a nominated local charity or group. Again this year they choose to donate the proceeds to the voluntary Five Villages First Responder group based in Misterton. The responder group covers Misterton, West Stockwith, Beckingham, Walkeringham, Gringley on the Hill and surrounding villages and works in partnership with East Midlands Ambulance Service. They can give care to patients suffering from medical emergency following a 999 call until the arrival of the ambulance. The group is self funding and relies on fund raising and donations to pay for some of the equipment and running costs of this rural scheme. Coordinator Martyn Johnson said: “We are hugely grateful to Sid and Sylvia for their hard work and for choosing the proceeds of their festive fund raising to be donated to us again this year. The grand total was an amazing amount of £351.50”. Sid was recognised recently by Misterton Parish Council for his charity work and was presented with the “Citizen of the Year” award. For further information about the First Responder group please visit the website at www.fvfr.co.uk or email contact@fvfr.co.uk.

Young Voices
School News in the Isle
th
On Tuesday 19 January 38 children from Haxey C of E School choir travelled to Sheffield Arena with the choir from Westwoodside C of E School to take part in a Young Voices concert. There were more than 5000 children taking part and it was amazing to be part of such a huge choir. Our parents were able to buy tickets to come and watch. The day was full of surprises. The special guest was Laura Wright, who is famous for singing at the opening ceremony of the Rugby Union World Cup. We were able to perform Invincible and World In Union with her. Other performers were the singer Tom Billington, The Beatbox Collective, who taught us all to beatbox and the street dance group Urban Strides. As an extra surprise Barney from Blue Peter took part in the show and conducted us singing the song Power In Me. A film crew filmed him and our show was featured on Blue Peter last week. It was a very tiring day – we didn’t get home till 11pm, but it was a fantastic experience – something that we will always remember.
said that when they played badminton they had to concentrate because it was hard to keep your eye on the shuttlecock. Cowboy dancing was a bit random because you had to wave your arm in the air in a circle whilst spinning around with your arm! Our next sporting event is a netball competition which involves years 5 and 6 - including me! I would have preferred a football competition but I will be doing my best to make sure that Wroot Primary wins. After that we have Wake and Shake on the 12th of February. We have been practising our dance routine really hard! Last year we performed to ‘What does the fox say?’ and we were awarded a certificate for the most original dance. This year’s routine is top secret so you have to wait till next time to find out what it was. This term our topic for KS2 is Ancient Greeks. We have done lots of art work. We have painted a big ship which is on our wall as well as some ancient pots. Three of the pupils are making a temple from re-cycled materials. It isn’t finished yet but they are getting close. We have read lots of myths and are going to be writing our own. This term’s topic for KS1 and Foundation Stage is ‘Under the Sea’. Everything from the role play area to the creative area is based on the theme. They have written about sea creatures, painted pictures, made models and found out about what they eat. They even have two new pet goldfish. Written By Cameron Abbott Year 6
Wroot Travis Primary School News This term is going to be so sporty that we could be working out for the next Olympics or maybe the one after that! Some pupils from Years 1-4 attended Future Stars at South Axholme Academy. They played badminton and enjoyed cowboy dancing. Kristie from Y4

Paintings inspired by Claude Monet Using Claude Monet’s, ‘Bridge Over the Water Garden’ at his home at Giverny in Normandy, Class 3 pupils (Years 3 & 4) at St Martin’s were inspired to create their own ‘impressionist’ paintings. The paintings created by the pupils show more ‘vibrant’ colours with less detail – these were the children’s own interpretations/personal responses based on the same subject matter. Travis May received a special award for his painting – he had applied the various tones of colours so carefully!
MP Andrew Percy - he visited St Martin's in January. Pupils in Years 5 & 6 (Class 4 at St Martin's) welcomed Andrew Percy to the school and met with him to ask him lots of questions about his job and what it is like to be in the Houses of Parliament. I think we may have some aspiring politicians in Class 4 now!

This beautiful girl is Kishka, a three year old Boxer Cross. Kishka is a really happy girl with nice manners- she obeys commands, and does tricks! We are looking for an active home for Kishka as she loves to run and play, and a large garden would be ideal. She is ok with most other dogs, but not cats, and would be best with older kids. Kishka is neutered and fully vaccinated. If you are interested in meeting this lovely girl, please give Isle Rescue a call on 01427 728705

News from Haxey Church of England Primary School We can hardly believe that half term is upon us already so soon after the New Year, however this hasn't stopped a term filled with fun! Success at Young Voices As advertised elsewhere in The Arrow, members of our Choir participated in Young Voices, alongside children from our neighbours as Westwoodside. We are phenomenally proud of our children, being such fabulous representatives of our school, and for singing their hearts out! They already can't wait until next year, when they hope to enjoy it even more. Masses of thanks to parents and staff who assisted in transport, and support on the night, and especially to Mrs Jenman for being the driving force behind its success. Visit from Florence Nightingale Year 2 have had a special visitor, in the form of Florence Nightingale who dropped by to offer support in their learning. The children learnt all about her time caring for wounded soldiers during the Crimean War. All children dressed up as nurses, soldiers, cooks and hospital orderlies and spent time cleaning up the filthy hospital ward and ridding it of rats and cockroaches, all before bandaging the soldiers up. This hands on learning was enjoyed by all, and the children took away with them a sense of what it may have been like all those years ago. Thank you Florence. Sporting Superstars Some children recently attended South Axholme to participate in the 'Future Stars' programme. Children all through school took part in dancing, racquet skills and played badminton. All who attended had a great deal of fun, and for our year 6 was an excellent way of experiencing what life will be like at South Axholme when they move up in September. Valentine's Disco Children celebrated the end of term with a disco held in the hall. DJ Rachel played all the latest 'tunes', with the children copying her dance routines and throwing some shapes of their own. Even a teacher or two were seen to have a dance! Thanks to our PTFA who work tirelessly putting on fun events for the school. Your support is really appreciated. Pop up shop Please look out for the date of our 'Mothers Day' pop up shop, where children can buy a gift for their mum, gran, or carer ready for Mothering Sunday on 6th March. A variety of items will be available to purchase at pocket money prices. Pending it's success, a Father's Day pop up shop may also be planned. Haxey's Got Talent For those who think they've got talent, our annual gala night will be held on 19th May, so get practicing! Last year saw a fabulous array of performances, including singers, dancers, magicians, comedians and guest
