Epworth Music Day 2022 – We’re back! For the past 2 years we have been unable to hold Epworth Music Day as a live event because of Covid. This year on Saturday 18 June, live music will be returning to the town! With less than 2 months to go before this year’s Epworth Music Day, we’re putting the final pieces together for another great day of celebrating live music. In the daytime there’ll be over 80 hours of free music from 10am to 5pm in 13 venues around Epworth, featuring over 50 different groups and performers of all types of music. All this is free. As well as the daytime programme, there will be 4 separate concerts in Epworth on Saturday evening to round off a stupendous day’s music and entertainment: The music at the Queen’s Head will continue after the daytime sets, with a further 3 rock bands. Music will finish earlier there this year. At 7pm there will be a concert with 6 different groups – again of all types of music – performing in St Andrew’s Church. Music will continue at the White Bear until 8pm. A blues band will be playing in The Old School Inn at 8pm. Finally, in the Imperial Hall an evening ceilidh starts at 7.30pm. All 4 concerts and the ceilidh are free; no tickets are needed. Full details of the performers and the daytime and evening programmes will be available at www.epworthmusicday.com and will be available on the day. You can also follow us on our Fb page. We would still welcome a few more stewards to help on the day – for however much time you can give. If you think you could help, please contact John Lambert on jrlambert@doctors.org.uk

Community News Epworth Old Rectory has opened its doors for the new season! And with the new season comes some changes in roles and personnel in the team. The new staffing team, Anya (Visits and Collections Manager), Bill (Buildings Supervisor), Jane (Strategic Manager), Sarah (Administrator) joins Shirley our long term (Gardener). Epworth Old Rectory welcomes the new members to this team and records its appreciation to retiring members of the team for their service. The Old Rectory team is only complete with the volunteers without whom it could not be open to the Public and we are grateful for their renewed commitment. The staffing team acts as custodians of the impressive and unique Grade 1 listed Queen Anne house and are committed to caring for the site, the building and its collections whilst sharing the stories of the families who lived there. The volunteers play a crucial role in providing a warm welcome to all of the Rectory’s visitors, without them Epworth Old Rectory wouldn’t be open to the public. The volunteers give their precious time and bring their knowledge of the site to deliver an excellent visitor experience. Built in 1709, Epworth Old Rectory was famously the childhood home of John and Charles Wesley who founded Methodism. The Old Rectory tells the unique and fascinating story of the Wesley family and how Methodism came to being. Come along to Old Rectory for a tour of the house where you can learn all about Susanna Wesley,
6
‘The Mother of Methodism’, and the Wesley children – all of the 10 surviving children. If you want to find out more about the Rectory or arrange a visit, please email Anya vcm@epwortholdrectory.org.uk, or visit our website www.epwortholdrectory.org.uk or call 01427 872268. The Old Rectory is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays 11am – 3pm.
JUBILEE GARDEN REFURBISHMENT at Misterton. Parish councillors started refurbishment of the Jubilee Garden this month in advance of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June. There is a beacon to be erected in the central garden, which will feature in the beacon-lighting across the country on Thursday 3 June. This will be followed by a bugle call then singing of a Song for the Commonwealth then the National Anthem. Proceedings start at 9.30pm. Full details of what's planned for the Platinum Jubilee celebrations will be in the next Parish Council's newsletter as well as on the Council's website and Facebook page. The Events team met to finalise plans for the Jubilee celebrations and to progress the Christmas lights switch-on, which will be on the first Friday in December, as is traditional.

Misterton Primary and Nursery School
Happy memories being made at Misterton Primary School with World Book Day. The children and staff threw themselves in to dressing up as their favourite book character. They also made gorgeous Book Nooks- a display of a scene inside a box which can slide between two books in our library. They look fabulous and we all enjoy peering inside them to see the detail. An invite to Queen Elizabeth High School for our scientists in Year 6 had them experimenting an investigating through the STEM project.
Ukraine- we have all been feeling we wanted to do something but making sure that something really helps is not easy and the need for items changes so quickly. With this in mind we would like the school community to join us on Wellbeing Wednesday and bring in a donation. Children and adults can dress in Ukraine colours of the flag or their National sunflower colours. The children have been supported, age appropriate with this in school through Newsround and First News and by being able to talk openly with their teacher about thoughts and worries. Support for our community- we have been informed of a new Facebook page ‘Just Giving Misterton, Beckingham and Local Villages’. Any members who have items to donate free will post on the page either under their name or anonymously as Group member. If someone would like to ask for this, they will either comment or inbox the donator and the item is passed on. If someone needs something ie a fridge they can put on a plea for this or they can message admin to put a post on for them so their identity is private. We are trying to connect with families who need help or want to offer help. We will be doing emergency food parcels in the future as I know there are families who may need these in the Tovillages. advertise please call 01302 532676 or 07912 643010 13 Compassion, Care, Kindness and Hope

Reception visit to Yorkshire Wildlife Park. There was excitement in abundance last month as the children from Reception visited the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. As well as seeing all the animals the children took part in workshops enhancing their topic of Africa. The class have been reading Handa’s surprise and learning about how the wildlife park have saved and rescued animals. We would like to take the opportunity wish all our extended family in the parish of Haxey a happy and peaceful Easter.
