1 DELIVERED MONTHLY TO 5100 HOMES AND BUSINESSES IN SPROTBROUGH AND BI MONTHLY TO WARMSWORTH AND CUSWORTH. April 2024 Issue No. 221 Covering Cusworth

Having gone to print early in March, you should receive your April Arrow in time for the Easter Weekend.

The Coach and Horses in Barnburgh have a cracking Easter Sunday planned for all the family. The clocks also go forward the Easter weekend meaning we have lighter nights to look forward to.

’s great to see a Doncaster family business expand, and that s exactly what is happening with the new High Melton Day Nursery and Pre School which opens its doors to new families this month. Offering quality day care for 0 to 5year olds, we wish them the very best of luck.

The deadline for the May issue of the Arrow is Wednesday 17th April and the Arrow will be delivered by 1st of May 2024.

Best wishes

DONCASTER CANCER

DETECTION TRUST

April is such a lovely month. Clocks have moved forward to give us more daylight hours which inspires us to get out and about.

On that note have you thought about organising an event (or entering one) to fundraise on our behalf? We have printed T-shirts available and we can help with publicity. There are various events if you are ac ve: half marathons are taking place in Birmingham, Sunday 5th May; Bristol on Sunday 19th May; Manchester on Sunday 26th May; London on Sunday 1st September; Great North Run, Newcastle on Sunday 8th September.

For something a li le else energe c how about organising a quiz evening, a book or plant sale, be sponsored to lose weight (good incen ve!) or abstaining from alcohol, smoking or junk food for a month…..or two!

And for adrenalin junkies, how about abseiling or skydiving or trying a zipwire? The possibili es are endless and you will be raising money for much-needed cancer-related equipment for our local hospitals.

If you fancy any of the above do get in touch with us. Our details are: 22 Wood Street, Doncaster DN1 3LW (entrance by the side of Kerry Gough Florists), first floor (li available), Room 104. Tel. 01302 325029. Email: info@dcdt.co.uk. Website: dcdt.co.uk. As the office is not fully manned it is best to Email or telephone in advance if you are thinking of coming to see us.

Don’t forget, we will help publicise your fundraising efforts beforehand and can include a write-up and photograph on our website a erwards. Big or small, everything you do will help. Just get in touch with us.

RICHMOND HILL PRIMARY ACADEMY

Well what a busy few weeks we’ve had; from World Book Day, to swimming galas, music concerts and sports competitions, it really has been full on in the most fantastic way!

World Book Day and Richmond Hill’s Masked Reader

Everyone had a blast on World Book Day when we came to school dressed as our favourite book characters. The day was filled with lots of exciting opportunities to speak with authors who joined us on-line, as well as voting for Richmond Hill’s very own ‘Masked Reader’ where children were given clues and had to guess who was reading their favourite books, hidden behind an array of different masks – our children loved it!

Competition Challenges

Some of our Key Stage 2 children were given the opportunity to join the Leger Sports Swimming Gala held at Askern Leisure Centre. This fabulous group of swimmers made a real splash at the event, finishing in first place!!

Children from Key Stage 2 also took part in a Dodgeball competition, arranged by Leger Sports. They had a brilliant experience and fun was had by all!

Treacherous Tudors

Year 2 had a very exciting day, with the launch of their new topic about Tudors. They had visitors come to school so that they could experience living like a Tudor.

Music for Youth

Richmond Hill’s choir sang their hearts out at the Music for Youth Festival, at Don Valley School. The adjudicators commented on the ‘big sound’ that our choir made collectively – there wasn’t a dry eye in the house – well done!

Spelling Bee

This fabulous five took part in a Spelling Bee held at Hill House School competing against other Doncaster schools. What a wonderful way to represent our school and what whizzes they are at spelling.

Getting in the Spring Spirit!

We have reached out to our school community in the last few weeks to ask for any donations of the following items in order to re-vamp our Early Years’ outdoor area.

Thank you to those parents who have already contributed, we are very grateful. Any further donations, however small, would be greatly appreciated. If you think you could help, we would love to hear from you, please email office@richmond.doncaster.sch.uk to let us know. Thank you in advance.

Let’s Think Partnership School

Great news – Richmond Hill has been awarded the title of ‘Let’s Think Partnership School’ by the Let’s Think Forum. We continue to train delegates in how to implement the Let’s Think in English Programme and welcome any colleagues from other schools who would like to see lessons in action. We are very proud of this achievement and wanted to share this news with you.

Our April fixtures can be viewed in the table to your right. This year, we will be including ALL fixtures from our senior teams, and whether they will be played at home, away or at our new out-ground at Bullcroft Main. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Bullcroft for having us throughout 2024 and hopefully beyond, starting with a charity day on 6th April. Be sure to join us at our games throughout the month and get behind the famous Copley Crest!

Just because the season is upon us does not mean its too late to support the club on and off the field. We are looking for a Women and Girls’ Cricket Co-ordinator for 2024 and beyond. We’re hoping to take advantage of the growing popularity of the women’s game in the country by adding an official position to our committee to focus on it specifically at our club, including both hardball and softball cricket. We will be hosting softball trials later this year, with a view to creating our first women's team as soon as possible. Please keep an eye out for more information and message us on social media if you're interested in taking up the role – or playing!

If playing isn’t your thing, the opportunity to sponsor individual players is now available at a cost of £60. In return for your sponsorship, you will receive weekly advertising through our team sheets, performance posts after each game and highlight reels after home games for your players – along with social media exposure for you from the club, and your chosen player.

Match ball sponsorships for any of our games are also available at £25 per match. Beneficiaries will receive a thank you post on our social media pages for their generosity to our online audience of over 1000 people as well as a free match-day tea! The tea alone makes the sponsorship worth it; trust us!

If you are interested in either an individual or match ball sponsorship, please contact Robbie Graves on 07944389039 or message us on Facebook or Instagram for any enquiries.

Thank you as always for reading! Don’t forget to follow us on social media and look out for the next edition of this column in May 2024!

EVENTS PLANNED TO RAISE MORE FUNDS FOR CHARITY

Our next activity is the Charity Walk on Sunday 12th May, starting on Town Field’s, at 10am. This is being done to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.

We did this last year raising about £3000 for those suffering from Parkinson’s disease.

Later in the year will be a sports day for people with Disabilities at Parklands Sports and social Club on Saturday 10th August. Many lions Clubs come together to organise this. People with disabilities of all ages are invited to take part in each of the activities organised by the clubs. A snack and drinks are also provided free to the participants.

We realised how much this had been missed by those who had taken part in the past when it was organised again after Covid.

In September a Golf day takes place at Town Moor Golf Course, last year raising in excess of £4500. We raise money regularly by organising coffee mornings throughout the year.

Every penny we raise goes back into the community. We get requests, often through social workers, to help out with white goods and furniture. Young people apply for grants towards projects they want to take part in.

We run race nights and casino nights for organisations to help them raise funds for their projects.

We are known mainly for taking Santa and his sleigh round the streets of the areas we cover. This takes place from the end of November to almost Christmas Eve. This year we raised over £7000, our best year yet.

We also organise a toy appeal collecting toys, which are then distributed, to children in the area.

As a group we are always busy helping out where we are needed. Lions is an international Organisation originally set up to help the local community but it also gets involved in helping countries around the world.
