Sprotbrough 60’s Night was a Sell Out!

The 60’s Music Night on Saturday June the 8th was a sell out and a roaring success with so many enjoying listening and dancing the night away to numerous 60’s favourites!

The DJ for the night was Ray Sullivan who very kindly organised the event to raise funds for Sprotbrough Christmas Lights and was supported on stage by Keith Mears who supplied and operated all the kit! Janet Sullivan organised the Raffle which helped boost funds on the night too. Following the event Ray was able to hand £500 to Carol Rees (Sprotbrough Christmas Lights organiser)!

Many thanks go to Ray and his team who laid on such an enjoyable night. Ray was very pleased with the funds raised and thanks were given to all who attended and supported the community event, including Shires Stores who sold tickets and promoted the 60’s Night. The evening was organised after the first event last year was a hit and requests kept coming for another; Ray duly obliged! The funds will go straight towards the cost of the 20ft tree (purchase, delivery and installation) that we all love to see on the green at the end of each November and throughout the Christmas period.

The Sprotbrough Christmas Lights display and switch-on each year is only made possible through sponsorship, fund raising and donations. Events for the community such as the 60’s Night are enjoyable and a great way to provide financial help. If you would like to run an event or donate, please contact Carol Rees. (see Facebook page).

Sprotbrough Cricket Club

Welcome to the latest edition of Sprotbrough Cricket Club’s Arrow column, bringing you all the news and goings-on of a club at the heart of the community. Not only is the English Test summer almost upon us, we’ve just hit the peak of ours! You can see our fixtures for July for all our senior teams below. Be sure to join us at our games throughout the month and get behind the famous Copley Crest! Don’t forget to check out our social media pages (which you can find at the bottom of this article) for the latest club news.

As we reach the season’s midpoint, we will providing low-downs from our senior teams across July and August’s columns about their respective seasons so far. This month, we will be looking at our three Saturday teams.

Dean Williamson has given a positive assessment of his First XI side so far this year, but admits there’s always room for improvement as with any great sports team. He said: “We’ve played some great cricket at the start of this season, with standout victories against Aston Hall and Ackworth. However, we need to improve our consistency if we’re serious about pushing for the top two spots in the league.”

The Second XI captain, Tom Langley, says they’re ready to go on a run after some good results. He said: “Despite the weather-affected start and a few below-par performances, we’re hoping to kick on in the second half of the season. We’ve made a great start in the cup against Aston Hall, where we chased 200 in 32 overs with seven wickets still in hand. That’s probably been our highlight so far.”

Meanwhile, Robbie Graves says the Third XI has been up and down so far this season. He said: “We’re in a transition period with lots of young players coming through. Kieran Davies has been a shining example of this. His three wickets in an over against Upper Haugh to seal victory is one of the season’s stand-out performances.”

We’d like to remind everyone that there’s still a number of players available to sponsor and to thank all of our player sponsors so far. If you are interested and would like more information, please contact us via social media.

Off the pitch this month, we’re so excited to say our annual Big Bash Summer Party is just around the corner! We’re looking forward to hosting you all on the hallowed turf on Saturday 6 July. Automatic Fishcake will be back to entertain us, whilst food will be available to buy from our wonderful street food vendors. Tickets are available at the club every Friday and matchday, or by scanning the QR code. They are £10 each, with free entry for under-12’s.

We are also thrilled to announce our annual ACG Memorial Six-aSide Tournament, dedicated to our dear friend Alastair Graves, has been rearranged for Saturday 28 September, after rain sadly postponed it back in May. Be sure to come along to the Ivanhoe to watch the nine teams battle it out to get their hands on the coveted trophy. It’s a great day out for all the family and we can’t wait to see you there!

Thank you as always for reading! Don’t forget to follow us on social media and look out for the next edition of this column in August 2024!

Transition to Copley Junior School

Year 2 and Year 3 teachers have already met to discuss how to support our children as they transfer to the junior school in September. Y3 teachers will be visiting Year 2 children in their classes during the coming weeks. Copley have also planned a transition meeting where all parents and children who have been offered a place will be invited to join them to see the school and meet the teachers. Further dates have been planned in July for children to spend learning time in their new classrooms with their new teachers.

The final part of this school year is certainly set to be a busy one so we will look forward to sharing more of Orchard’s news next month!

RICHMOND HILL PRIMARY ACADEMY

Special Visitors

Reception and Nursery enjoyed a fabulous visit from some special friends. Reptile Rendezvous visited with the children learning much more about animals.

D Day Remembered

To mark 80 years since D Day, Year 6 created an art piece in thanks of our D Day veterans. They also engaged with their visitor from the National Holocaust Centre and Museum where they looked at artefacts as they learned all about the life of Leo.

We love football!

Our children had a brilliant day out on the Doncaster Rovers pitch in the Stoneacre Cup! They went out narrowly in the semifinals by one goal to the eventual winners Bawtry. However, our children’s attitudes, team play and resilience was unrivalled and the school was awarded £300 for their success. Some out of this world goals, assists and defending were some of our highlights throughout the day! Well done team RICHMOND HILL.

Roman Experience

Year 3 had a fantastic day at Murton Park learning about the Romans. They enacted role play and really got to experience life as a Roman soldier.
