Sprotbrough Methodist Church has recently launched Fun Club Extra. Building on the success of Fun Club that meets on a Friday night, Fun Club Extra is on a Sunday morning from 10am to 11am in Sprotbrough Methodist Church Hall, Park Drive. Fun Club Extra is for children ages 3 and upwards, with activities on offer to suit all ages. The morning starts with a drink and a biscuit and then there a range of art, craft and baking activities that fit in with our monthly theme. Recent themes include Harvest and Light and our current theme is Christmas. There are also board games available as well as drama and music activities. There are also optional Christian activities and sometimes the children will have the opportunity to perform dramas in church such as at Christmas when Fun Club Extra will be putting on a Nativity play. There is a free choice of activities at Fun Club Extra and we really think that there is something for everyone. We hope to see you and your child at Fun Club Extra soon. Simply turn up at the church hall any Sunday morning at 10am and we will register your child. Fun Club Extra is run by several very experienced leaders, all who are CRB checked. Vintage Beauty Salon from Sprotbrough attended ‘Doncaster Showcase’ in October at Doncaster Racecourse. This annual Business Showcase now in its third year was organised as a partnership between Success Doncaster and Doncaster Chamber. The two day event brought people together from across the Borough and surrounding areas to promote their business, gain inspiration from keynote speakers and learn the latest business skills from a range of workshops and networking opportunities on offer. Vintage was there to demonstrate their new permanent nail varnish treatment and other specialised beauty treatments. Vintage beauty salon owner Diane Powell said ―it was a great networking event, Doncaster has so many fantastic people running their own businesses, and it was a privilege to be a part of this event‖. In total 280 businesses exhibited; this figure included 200 Success Doncaster beneficiaries. The event played host to more than 2,500 visitors over the two days, proving that this exhibition was the biggest business event in Doncaster by far!

Fine Dining With Laurent Berges Venison and Duck terrine Terrines tend to be underrated in the UK. Terrines are very flavoursome and are easy to make. They can be prepared a couple of days before, thus giving you more time with your guests, and still provide a great looking and tasting first or second course! Most high profile restaurants will have terrines on the menu several times during the year. Many Michelin Starred chefs have perfected terrines to an absolute art. The recipe below will be a perfect Christmas dish. It is a great start to making terrines. The idea of the terrine, is that when sliced and beautifully presented on a plate, it offers great visual effects and very specific, concentrated flavours.

Ingredients (Serves 8-10):

For the forcemeat mixture: 600g best sausage meat 1 organic free range egg 1 bunch of parsley, chopped 1 handful of finely chopped lemongrass sprigs 12 juniper berries, crushed 2 garlic cloves, chopped 25ml of cherry brandy, a large spoon of goose fat 25 ml of red wine, a large spoon of organic double cream Salt and pepper For the game meat mixture: 500g best venison 500g best duck breast (the large fat kind) Sunflower oil, for frying 400g best streaky bacon

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 170C/325F/Gas Mark 3. Top of Form Remove the rind from the bacon slices. Stretch each slice out using the back of knife. Line a ceramic terrine dish with the bacon, carefully overlapping the slices, and leave long ends hanging over the sides to fold over later. In a large recipient, mix together all the ingredients for the forcemeat. Cut the venison and duck into long strips, heat some oil over a medium heat in a frying pan and fry the two meats separately for 8-10 minutes each until browned. Reserve aside. Layer the forcemeat with the fried game meat (starting and ending with forcemeat), seasoning as you go. You can either mix the duck and venison or make each layer a separate meat. The trick is to pack the layers tightly and fill in all the gaps with forcemeat, aiming for a dense texture. When you reach the final layer, neatly fold the bacon strips carefully over the top to seal. Cover with the terrine lid or kitchen foil. Place the dish in a roasting pan half full of water and cook in the oven for about 2 hours. You may need to add more boiling water several times during cooking. The terrine is done when a skewer comes out of it piping hot. It is essential to press down the terrine as it cools – preferably overnight. Use a dish that just fits within the edges of the terrine and weigh it down with something heavy. Carefully remove the terrine from the cooking dish, without breaking it. Use a very sharp knife to slice the terrine into 1.5 cm slices. Present each slice on a large white plate. Garnish with micro salad leaves, splashes of olive oil and balsamic vinegar vinaigrette, sweet chutney, buttered dark rye bread and warm toasted French bread. Notes: if you are confident with making terrines, you could add layers to the recipe above. For example, you could add flavours and colours by creating layers with asparagus, leeks, red peppers, or even nuts. The visual result will be outstanding!

It's Christmas time!!! Yes, it is that wonderful time of year when we catch up with family and friends and celebrate in style and when we all really like to look our best. So this issue is dedicated to all those 'finishing touches', which guarantee that you will walk out of the salon happy and confident and remain so throughout this festive period.

The coverage is fantastic and it has excellent benefits for the skin – in fact it is widely recognised by dermatologists and cancer specialists that you are better to wear it than not, and it has a sun protection rating of 15. Doncaster Advanced Motorists Beyond the Standard Driving Test Seasons greeting to you all, A good gear change is so smooth that your passengers won’t even notice it has taken place. To achieve this smoothness, you must select a gear that matches the engine speed and road speed, and you must use the accelerator and clutch skilfully. Your goal is to drive as smoothly as possible all times. Drivers often get a false perception of how smooth their driving is, because they have the steering wheel for support. Ask your passengers for an assessment of your driving smoothness, or watch them in your peripheral vision. If they are rocking around as you negotiate a roundabout or corner, your technique isn’t smooth enough and needs more work. When changing up a gear, release the accelerator and depress the clutch simultaneously, and only press the accelerator again as your foot is releasing the clutch. Expert timing will produce silky-smooth changes every time. When changing down a gear, you’ll increase smoothness by matching the engine speed to the road speed with a brief blip of the accelerator. Good gear changes re also good for your car (and wallet). They keep your clutch and gearbox in excellent, condition for longer and save petrol. Poor gear changes and ―riding the clutch‖ causes expensive premature wear. Block changing-changing gear from say, third to fifth or fifth to second in one movement is an important part of Advanced Driving. Advanced Drivers make excellent progress by applying firm acceleration whenever it is safe and applicable. This could often mean reaching a 60mph speed limit in, say, third gear after an overtake manoeuvre. What is the point in changing from third to fourth and fourth to fifth just to maintain the same speed? This is an opportunity to minimise your driving inputs (and your fuel consumption) by changing straight from third into top gear missing out fourth gear. Like wise on approaching a roundabout or junction, slow your speed, by using your acceleration sense or brakes, and then select the gear for your exit. This may well mean changing straight from fifth to second. You should always aim to make gear changes after braking and before you turn the steering wheel. This produces a smooth, safe, progressive and economical drive, which your passengers will really appreciate. If you are interested in further information regarding the courses that we offer, you’ll be able to find this information on the Institute of Advanced Motorists website at www.iam.org.uk or Tel: 020 8996 9600 Have a Merry Xmas and a very happy new year. Sprotbrough Road Community Church (Methodist) The Family Table The month of December is upon us once again, what thoughts does it conjure up for you? I’m thinking that my table will soon be used as a desk for writing Christmas cards. These wonderful cards we send to show our love for Our Saviour. I still love to send cards with a verse from Scripture and a picture of the stable with baby Jesus, Mary and Joseph. This lightens my heart. Unfortunately not everyone wants to receive a Christmas card, some think it’s just a holiday and doesn’t mean anything anymore. They don’t see the Son of God, the Holy Child we revere. Some may not even believe in God. It may be just a good excuse to have a party and buy presents and get together with their families. Alas, they are missing so much. It’s good to sit around our tables, overflowing with food and all the trimmings, enjoying ourselves, but let us help others to see the wonder we see in Our Lord. I am grateful that I have known Jesus all my life, as a child I felt Him around me. I have known the true wonder of Christmas, the real spirit of Christmas. It lifts me so high to celebrate this one Birthday, the greatest one of all, the birth of Jesus. Let’s remember that first Christmas, the lowly birth in a stall, the crib, a manger. The Shepherds coming to pay homage, they were considered the lowest of the low. Then the three Kings, the highest echelon, following the star and bringing their gifts to the baby born to be our Saviour. May we all be thankful for what we have received from our Humble King. Through Him, anything is possible. So let’s spread His light this Christmas time, let’s sing the carols with gusto, love and praise. Let’s worship around His cradle, His Cross, His Table of remembrance. God Bless you all and have a Merry Christmas See you in the New Year Love from Jean
