Editor’s Letter... ...

A fun packed December awaits us all! This month’s Arrow has all the events taking place locally to ensure you have a super time in the run up to Christmas. Santas Grotto awaits you at Warmsworth Community Centre on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd December. Later in December, you can enjoy Carols in the Park held at Warmsworth Quarry Park. If you are quick, you may catch the Christmas fayre at St Marys Church Hall in Sprotbrough which is held on Saturday 24th November! What ever you decide to do over this festive season, I hope you have a truly wonderful Christmas. The deadline for the January issue for advertising and articles is Wednesday 12th December. The January Arrow will be delivered between Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

Merry Christmas Michelle Sidebottom

News, News, News, News, News, News.. Huge Sale of second-hand books and Jigsaw puzzles to be held at the Goldsmiths Centre Sprotbrough on Saturday 8th December 10am—4pm. Free Admission, all monies raised to be donated to trust fund 2340 at Doncaster Royal Infirmary (DRI) to help local patients. Volunteers meeting for a clear-up at Martinwells Lake this week, were joined by swans and muscovy ducks supervising their work. And the Friends of Martinwells Lake are very proud of the difference they have made, as Margaret Adamson, Chair of the Friends, explains: “The lake is looking great and even on a November Saturday we had anglers, dog walkers and other visitors enjoying the peace and the wildlife. Wherever you get people, you will find litter, but today that task is only a fraction of the job it used to be.” Said Caroline Flint: “In three and a half years, the Friends have transformed this area. Today, we just cleared litter and put wood chip on steps to the Lake. People always talk about the big things in Doncaster, like the Market, the airport etc, but important though these are it is the community spirit often against the odds in our villages and small towns that makes Doncaster special.” The group has created wide, even paths around the lake, so that mobility scooters and buggies can be easily used at the lake. Volunteers are always welcome – next clean up day is Sunday 16 December 9pm at Martinwells Lake (access at top of Martinwells Road, past the health centre, follow the path straight to the gate.) Photo above shows: l to r Cllr Phil Cole, Cllr Bob Johnson, Caroline Flint, Margaret Adamson, Chair and Bill Adamson.

The group meets each Thursday between 1.00pm and 3.00pm in the library and tea, coffee and cakes and biscuits are available. Danum Academy Students get behind the Shoe Box Appeal I Would like to say a great big 'thank you' to my students from Danum Academy. I attend St Mary's church in Sprotbrough and this year, as every year, the church did the shoe box appeal for children in Eastern Europe. They collect shoe boxes filled with Christmas treats for children. The boxes are wrapped in Christmas paper and labelled for either a boy or girl as well as an age range. I launched this in assemblies at school to year 10 and 11 in the hope that they would get on board. I am pleased to say that they did and we sent 46 shoe boxes from the school to St Mary’s which will go to different parts of Eastern Europe. I just wanted the community to know how proud I am of all my students for helping to support the church and families in Eastern Europe. Nicola O'Keeffe Head of Year 11 Danum Academy

WARMSWORTH

CRICKET CLUB

Despite the season being over, things have been far from quiet on Common Lane for us as we start to put plans in place to build towards a successful season in 2013. The lack of player availability at times last year has been earmarked as a big problem, and we have started to try and put that right, by securing our first new addition in welcoming back Chris Hadley to the club. Having left a few years ago, Chris has made the decision to come and play cricket at Warmsworth, a decision we are very happy with and we wish him all the success in the world next year. The club has continued to compete in the All Saints Indoor League, and after a shaky start against Doncaster Town in the first match, the boys have picked up two wins in their last two games against Hatfield Town and Maltby, with the aforementioned new signing Chris Hadley featuring in both games. We continue to advertise for new players, so as mentioned in previous posts, if anyone fancies getting involved, getting back into the sport, or knows anyone that might want to enjoy a game with a good set of lads, then please do not hesitate to contact us on the details below.

UPCOMING FIXTURES ALL INDOOR LEAGUE @ ROSSINGTON ALL SAINTS SCHOOL 18th Nov – WCC v Barnby Dunn 25th Nov – WCC v Rossington 2nd Dec – WCC v Hatfield Town. To contact the club, please e-mail: secretary@warmsworthcc.com.
