If your child is aged between 6 & 7 and are free on a Monday night between 6pm and 7.30pm why not let them come along and join in the fun at 28th St Edmunds Scout Group, Anchorage Lane, Sprotbrough. We currently have places for Beaver Scouts, we accept both boys and girls, scouting can be great fun but is not for everyone, so we operate a free trial period, if you think your child might enjoy it, give me a ring on 07886562392 to find out when they can start. So far this year we have had a sleepover at Magna, slept in the scout hut during an Italian themed weekend, completed the Danum Challenge, marched through Doncaster on St George’s Day, made and sank boats, charged around like Knights of the Round Table, learned how to tie knots, celebrated the Chinese New Year in style and lots more.

School News from

Copley Junior School

Year 4 Visit to Castleton As part of their new Geography project on ‘Mountains’, Year 4 visited Castleton. The walk didn’t take the children up any mountains, but did enable children to experience the different landscape features during their walk through the stunning countryside. Amazing Potions Our Year 4 pupils have enjoyed their project on ‘Potions’ and their bath time shop was a great success! Children made a range of bath time products, created the advertising materials and invited parents and relatives to the opening of their ‘shop’. This involved some good opportunities for Maths, as children worked out the cost of raw ingredients and the price they needed to charge in order to establish their profit margins. We have some budding entrepreneurs as Year 4 made a profit of £267.32, which helped to cover the costs of aromatherapy workshops provided as part of the project. Children in Year 4 really enjoyed a Science workshop led by Dr Fran from the ‘Cornerstones’ Company. I think this is a lovely photograph, as it shows the excitement on the children’s faces as they watch the action of dry ice in water.

Racing to the finish line

Intense concentration at the start of the egg and spoon race!

Sporting Success It was great to see so many parents and relatives at our Sports afternoon. All of the children in school were actively involved throughout the afternoon, taking part in year group track events, as well as rounders and cricket matches. Points were collected from all events and children were eager to find out which House would win our Sports Day Cup. Well done to Green House who were our 2014 winners with 351 points. New School Roof Our current school roof is as old as the school and it has developed some leaks. Contractors will be working to replace the flat school roof from 7th July and over the Summer holiday, through to mid September. The work will not be noisy and should not disturb our neighbours in any way. Whilst the school is in session, two contactor vans will need to park in the public parking spaces outside school during work hours. We hope this will not cause any inconvenience whilst this essential work is being undertaken. We look forward to sharing more of our school news soon. Best wishes E.A. Crayton Head teacher

A new Safari Village, offering a wide variety of distinctive gifts, has opened at the awardwinning Yorkshire Wildlife Park.

Bustling Safari Village

at Yorkshire Wildlife Park

The 600 square metre village, complete with its own café and a much larger YWP shop, also features crafts, artwork and décor and adds to the appeal of the UK’s fastest-growing visitor attraction. The Safari Village, which can be sampled without entering the Park, near Doncaster, is a perfect drop in for visitors before and after enjoying the magical walk-through experience of YWP.

The finishing touches were applied to the purpose-built units before Easter It feature outlets such as Etc Etc Etc, the admired jewellery, furniture and accessories store based in the village of Bawtry. It also offers a range of stylish goods including Emma Bridgewater pottery. Limited 2 Art displays work from some of the finest painters and most collectible artists including Kerry Darlington, Peter Smith and amazing bronze sculptures by Frogman. The Chocolate Box is also in the Village where sweet toothed visitors can enjoy an Aladdin's cave of sweets and chocolates. “We are always looking at ways to improve the YWP experience for visitors and the Safari Village will provide a unique range of gifts and showcase the work of talented local artists and craftsmen,” said YWP Director Cheryl Williams. “Shoppers can even enjoy the Safari Village without paying to enter the park, making it the perfect stopover for coaches on the way to or back from holiday destinations like the Dales.” The 70-acre park at Branton, which has won a string prestigious awards since it opened in 2009, had an extremely busy Easter with its unique collection of beautiful animals including Amur Tigers and Leopards, Painted Hunting Dogs, Lions and Giraffes. It offers an unrivalled opportunity to come face to face with a huge range of some of the world's most beautiful and at risk animals. See the Amur Leopards, the most endangered big cat on the planet, from an 8m-high viewing tower or through a 10m-glass wall at Leopard Heights. Visitors get the perfect view from a 150metre walkway of stunning Amur Tigers among waterfalls and pools. Sayan and Vladimir are among less than 400 Amur Tigers left in the world and are part of a crucial European wide breeding programme. Then there is Lion Country - home to the pride of ions rescued from a run-down zoo in Romania, now roaming in the extensive reserve with a lake and waterfalls. Visitors also enjoy the great African Plains where Zebra, Antelope, Ankole Cattle and Ostrich roam free, and the playful monkeys in Lemur Woods.
Then there are Meerkats, Wallabies, Camels, a giant Anteater, Zebra and many many more. There is also the weather proof 600 sq m Monkey Playbarn – the perfect place to warm up or stay out of the sun with a drink in the 120 seater eatery. Children can enjoy three levels of play equipment, including climbing frames, dens, slides and rope bridges - in full view of the new baboon reserve through a glass wall. Next door is the new Zoom Super Slide Barn, which has an Astra slide and two drop slides

Spring at the Farm! Our Reception children recently enjoyed a visit to Cannon Hall Farm in Barnsley where they met lots of other excitable kids!

Wig Wednesday All the staff at Richmond Hill Primary Academy joined in a fun day for ‘Wig Wednesday’ in aid of Children’s Cancer. “This is a cause that is close to our hearts at present” commented Jill Foster. It’s lovely that we can raise money whilst staff and pupils raise a smile.

TECHNO MAN SWOOPS IN FOR A VISIT TO RICHMOND HILL PRIMARY ACADEMY! Congratulations to Alexa Jarmolinski from Year 1 who has won the ACS Computer Store Techno Man competition by coming up with an idea for a sidekick for the techno superhero. Techno Man was able to take time off from fighting the current global computer virus to present Alexa with her prize of an ipad mini, and as an extra surprise the school received one for Alexa’s class mates to use!
