Editor’s Letter...
February has been a busy month for Arrow Publications as we added an extra 4 magazines to our business. The new magazines cover the Wakefield area; Ackworth, Pontefract, Walton and Sandal. If you think your business may benefit from advertising in these areas, please let me know, likewise, if you have news articles of interest which involve these areas, again, please contact me and I will make sure we share your information. The new magazines can be viewed online at www.arrowpublications.co.uk along with our other magazines. This months issue of The Arrow has news from some of your local primary schools. If you would like your school news and information included in the Arrow, please contact me on the details below. Good luck to Shaun McDermott and a group of fellow Warmsworth Cub Scout leaders who take on the 3 peak challenge later this year in aid of the ‘Help our Heroes’ charity. If you would like to know more or donate to this event, you will find more information on p6. Last but certainly not least, we celebrate Mother’s Day at the very end of March! Be sure to make a note to make that very special lady feel appreciated, she really does deserve it! The deadline for the April issue for advertising and articles is Wednesday 19th March. The April Arrow will be delivered the last weekend in March.

News, News, News, News, News, News.. North East Doncaster CAB joins national campaign to help sick and disabled people get vital support and fair treatment North East Doncaster CAB has joined forces with Citizens Advice Bureaux across the country as part of a national campaign to ensure sick and disabled people are not left stranded due to reforms to Government support. Recent changes to Employment Support Allowance will make it harder for sick and disabled people to get fair treatment, warns Karen Bothamley, Chief Officer of North East Doncaster CAB (NEDCAB). Advisers and volunteers have helped clients in the past year with the widely-criticised Employment Support Allowance (ESA). In the past year alone, Citizens Advice nationally has helped with nearly half a million problems about ESA. The Work Capability Assessment, which determines people's eligibility for ESA, has come under fire for failing to deliver accurate decisions which are estimated to have cost taxpayers more than £60 million. Since October, anyone who is at first refused support will have to wait an additional two weeks whilst their initial application is reassessed, during which time they will potentially be left without any income. The new Citizens Advice 'Fit for Work' campaign, launched on 3rd February, calls on ministers to:
Ensure independent medical evidence is considered by officials before making an initial assessment about a person's fitness for work;
Ensure any applicants for ESA are not left without financial support during the new, extra reassessment; Fine assessors where they are shown to have made an incorrect medical assessment.
Karen Bothamley, Chief Officer of NEDCAB said: "Far too many of our clients are having stress piled onto unfairness as a result of this system. I'm worried that the early signs since changes were made have only made a bad situation worse. "Since the new reassessment hurdle was introduced, we've helped people across Doncaster deal with ESA problems. There is a real danger that people who are fully entitled to support are denied it for at least an extra two weeks as a result of these changes. "I'm pleased to be a part of this new campaign to get the problems sorted out for our clients. This needs to be a joint effort between ministers, officials, charities and health professionals to make sure sick and disabled people get quick and fair treatment out of this system which right now is simply not working." North East Doncaster CAB is a registered charity number 1096497 providing free, confidential, independent and impartial advice to all. For advice, an appointment or to volunteer please phone 0844 499 4137 or call at the Thorne office (5A Browns Lane) on Mondays 10.00am to 2.00pm, or Wednesdays 10.00am to 12.30, or at our Stainforth Office (Stainforth Methodist Church, Church Road) on Tuesdays 10.00am to 2.00pm.

3 Peak Challenge
My name is Shaun McDermott, and I have been a resident of Warmsworth Village since 1999. My wife Jane has lived in the village all her life. In the 15 years that I have lived here, I have been involved with the local Scout Group, 1st/36th St Peter’s Warmsworth, where I hold the warranted position of Cub Scout Leader (Akela).
As you will no doubt be aware, this year, villages, towns, cities and nations alike will come together to mark the centenary of the outbreak of World War One. In addition to this, our Prime Minister has set a deadline of later this year for the cessation of all U.K. combat operations in Afghanistan. I’m sure you would agree that these two momentous occasions will no doubt make the year ahead one for both reflection and celebration for our armed forces, their families, and us as their grateful nation. To acknowledge this, and in a bid to raise funds for the charity Help 4 Heroes, I have coordinated myself and a small group of fellow Cub Scout Leaders to climb the three highest peaks in the U.K. On May 30th, we will be walking to the summit of Ben Nevis in Scotland, where will place a wreath on the cairn there, the highest war memorial in the U.K. at 4,406ft. The following day, we will then walk to the summit of Scafell Pike in Cumbria, and finally on the third day we will walk to the summit of Mt Snowdon in Wales. Once completed, our team (including a 67 year old) will have walked 42 kilometers, and climbed 9,800ft.
Shaun McDermott Akela, 1st/36th St Peter’s Warmsworth Cub Pack Anyone wishing to support the efforts of Shaun and his team can make donations on line at www.bmycharity.com/ShaunMcDermott. Donating through this website is quick, simple and secure, and unlike some other donation web sites, it does not take a commission. This means that every penny put in gets to the charity involved.

Richmond Hill School News Richmond Hill Bake-off
Monday the 3rd of February saw Richmond Hill joining the nation’s current interest in baking. The theme was ‘Celebrations’. The children were given this theme and allowed to let their imaginations run riot! They produced biscuits of every variety and on the day dressed up to match the theme. They all looked fantastic and their Bake-off entries were fabulous! Well done everyone, a great day to celebrate the school’s voluntary conversion to an Academy. The school has become a stand-alone Academy from the 1st of February, giving it more autonomy and opportunities offered to Academies.

School News from
Copley Junior School School Clubs At Copley Junior we value the importance of extra curricular activities. They enhance the curriculum greatly and our enthusiastic children really enjoy clubs at lunchtime and after school. Our after school clubs include Football, Multi Skills, Gym, Art, Craft, Choir and our very popular new club of Archery! As you can see from the photographs below, the children are keen to participate in the different club opportunities that we offer. Football Club is led by Mr McGrath, who has experience of being a professional footballer for over 15 years, playing for clubs such as Aston Villa, Doncaster Rovers and, most recently, Burton Albion. Our Multi Skills Club has a focus on many different sports and games over the different club sessions, including basket ball, football, tag rugby, dodge ball etc. Craft Club Children in craft club have a great time each week making a variety of craft items including a mobile, balloon models and glove puppets. As you can see in the photo below, the children are very proud of the glove puppets they have made! Choir Our Year 5 and 6 choir recently joined 5000 other children across Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield to sing at the ‘Young Voices’ Concert at Sheffield Arena. This was a memorable occasion! Our children (and staff!) sang their hearts out and demonstrated many great dance moves also!

Our new Archery Club is very popular! Playground Leaders In January an external coach came to school to train our new Playground Leaders. Fourteen pupils in Year 5 volunteered to take part in the training, led by an external coach. Our Playground Leaders organise and lead outdoor games activities at lunchtime for children in Years 3 and 4. Children in Year 3 and 4 then have the choice of playing their own games or joining a game led by the Playground Leaders. We hope our Playground Leaders’ scheme will promote physical activity at lunchtime and further develop our whole school family ethos of older children looking after younger pupils.
Community Governor Opportunity An opportunity has arisen for a member of the local community to serve on our Governing Body. We are keen to use the skills and expertise of governors to support the development of the school. If you are interested in finding out more, please contact me at school. We look forward to sharing some of our school news again soon. Best Wishes, E.A. Crayton Head teacher
