Don Valley MP Caroline Flint, and local councillors joined keen cricketers this week to welcome a £50,000 investment by Sport England in Warmsworth Cricket Club, as a huge vote of confidence in grassroots cricket.
Club Chairman Michael Wolsey said “We are delighted to have secured this investment which means we can now replace the old flat roof with a brand new tiled one. The old roof is well beyond its economic life and a new Maintenance free Roof will be a big improvement on the Clubhouse. The Olympic Legacy club will be clear to see for future generations at our Club.”
The Places People Play, Inspired Facilities award is part of the Olympic legacy, and will be used to replace the roof on the cricket pavilion, substantially extending the life of the building.

Said Caroline Flint: “Well done to Warmsworth Cricket Club for winning this investment from Sport England. This is proof that the Olympics effect can reach right into villages here in South Yorkshire. “This is a vote of confidence in the future of Warmsworth Cricket Club and recognition that the great players of tomorrow learn their craft at grassroots community clubs like this. “Congratulations to Gary Allen, Michael Wolsey, Richard Nettleton and all the officers who have contributed to this successful bid.”

WARMSWORTH
CRICKET CLUB With snowy weather, rainy days and windy weeks putting most of South Yorkshire back into the winter blues, emotions at Warmsworth Cricket Club are at an all-time high having received some exciting news in the past few weeks. Over the past year or so, the club have been working tirelessly to raise money to put plans into action and replace the roof on our clubhouse and we are pleased to announce that after an application to ‘Sport England Inspired Facilities Fund’, we have been awarded a grant of £50,000. This money will make a huge difference, not only to the people associated with the club at the minute, but for many years to come for future generations of Warmsworth cricketers. Special mention has to go to Mick Wolsey (Club Chairman), Richard Nettleton (Club Secretary) and Gary Allen (Grant Bid Coordinator) for the hard work they put in to secure such a huge boost for WCC. As for playing action, the Indoor League XI are in decent form, having won three of their last four games. Spirits are high within the team and after a good win against Maltby Miners Welfare on the 3rd February, skipper Mark Shanks tweeted: “Great win today! We batted first and got a poor 66 off our 12 overs. Maltby managed 63 off 12, the lads put a great shift in!!” For any fans of social media out there, Warmsworth Cricket Club are newbies to the world of Twitter, but if you would like to keep up to date with goings on, indoor league results and events being held at the clubhouse, the give us a follow @WarmCC. Thanks for taking to the time catch up with your local cricket club, and remember if you are wanting to get involved in any way, our doors are
always open.
