Welcome to the April issue of the Sprotbrough Arrow You may receive your arrow this month as you tuck into your Easter Eggs! Delivery started on Thursday and should be completed by Easter Sunday, fingers crossed you are enjoying the Easter weekend in sunshine! If you are enjoying the break at home, this month’s issue of the Arrow has lots of ideas to help you fill the days for your little people! As you can see, our local primary schools have been as busy as ever and the staff will hopefully be able to put their feet up and relax in the Easter break. I know how much you enjoy reading about what goes on in school and I appreciate the efforts made by our local schools to keep us up to date with their lovely articles. Thank you also, to all the other local groups who provide us with information on their activities, allowing the community to take part. The deadline for the May issue is Wednesday 13th April. The May Arrow will be delivered the last full weekend in April.

Sprotbrough
Neighbourhood Champions (SNC) We are an independent group of Sprotbrough people, supported by the Parish Council to put together a Neighbourhood Plan.
Exhibition at The Point connects communities across the world with
Doodles The Point on South Parade, Doncaster is the next stop for artist Ivan Liotchev’s International Collaborative Drawing Project (ICDP). Ivan’s work brings together people from different cultures and backgrounds to create visual art together. His exhibition of large vibrant canvases has been on show in the gallery Since Monday 14 March. Since its birth in 2010, Ivan has taken the International Collaborative Drawing Project all over the world. For example, he’s recently started drawings with Native Americans and finished them with bankers in Geneva. Next stop is Doncaster and he’s keen to get local people doodling. Ivan says: “My vision is to continue broadening my network of world-wide collaborators to establish a comprehensive platform where people can express their unique voices on a united international stage. This exhibition at The Point will be the first ever instance where so many drawings from the project are shown together under one roof. This will give visitors the exciting chance to compare drawing styles and approaches from throughout the world.”
During the Easter holidays Ivan will host a series of drawing workshops at The Point including a free dropin day where anyone can take part in creating new art. Join us on Wednesday 23 March between 10am-12noon and 1-3pm and make your mark.

The group will soon be sending out questionnaires to every home and business in Sprotbrough, canvassing your views on what is good and what you feel needs to be improved within your local community. Please allow yourself time to consider these, as the Neighbourhood Plan will then seek to protect these and make changes where necessary for the benefit of both yourselves and future Sprotbrough residents. The Neighbourhood Plan is being developed to enable us to influence the future shape and appearance of Sprotbrough too. It is anticipated that the plan, put together through our collaboration with yourselves the Sprotbrough residents, the Parish Council, DMBC, Local Businesses, Community Groups and other interested parties will be accepted into the DMBC Local Development Plan (LDP). This means that although we won’t be able to stop all future developments in Sprotbrough, we will be given an early opportunity to oppose them. Should that be unsuccessful, in addition to the planning regulations contained within the LDP which a developer will have to strictly adhere to, alongside those, and carrying as much weight will be legally binding policies developed by us, stipulating such things as the number, type and appearance of any new buildings, thereby retaining the identity of Sprotbrough for years to come. If you would like to be involved with this work, or require any further information on how you can contribute, please email the SNC Group at

Richmond Hill Primary Academy Richmond Hill Primary Academy Choir For the second year in succession we are delighted to have been awarded first prize for the Young People’s Choir at the Don Valley Festival. The Adjudicator gave the Choir a category of Outstanding and commented - “Extremely enjoyable performance. Rich sounds from the start – well sung, with super phrase direction. So confident and voices were used very well”.

South Yorkshire Inter-School Spelling Bee We recently welcomed competitors from Barnburgh Primary, Stocksbridge Juniors, Ridgeway Primary and Loxley Primary to take part in the South Yorkshire Inter-School Spelling Bee competition. After a fiercely contested battle, the winner was a pupil from Stocksbridge with second place going to Barnburgh and third place to Richmond Hill. Richmond Hill has the X Factor Pupils voted for their favourite acts in our annual X Factor competition. Zane Secker’s drumming skills received the most votes after he performed a pulsating rendition of The Coral’s In the Morning. World Book Day We love reading at Richmond Hill and we also love sports - so we thought why not combine them! Our children had a choice of dressing up as their favourite book character on World Book Day or as their favourite sporting hero in support of Sport Relief. Paula Radcliffe meeting Harry Potter was a sight to behold.

Internet Safety Week We had some fantastic entries for our Safer Internet Competition where we asked pupils to come up with interesting and innovative ideas to share ways to help children to keep safe online. The standard was outstanding! Sports News An enthusiastic team of sporting stars visited Ridgewood School to participate in a sports skills competition with our pyramid primary schools. They were awarded 1st place for their excellent sporting skills and attitude and were great ambassadors for the school. Our Cheerleaders were also in the spotlight when they visited the Sheffield Institute of Sport to compete in the South Yorkshire Cheerleading Finals. We’re very proud that they achieved 8th place out of all the schools in South Yorkshire.

Sprotbrough Orchard Infant School
At the beginning of Spring Term, Orchard classes visited the Yorkshire Aviation Museum in Doncaster as part of our centre of interest work on transport. The children had an exciting and hands on experience looking at real aeroplanes and other aircraft in the hangar and were able to take on the role of the pilot in some! Children sat in the pilot seat and manoeuvred the planes with the controls, looked at the dash and pressed the pedals. Orchard would like to extend thanks to Ian who showed us around and gave us insightful information on the different aircraft. We are looking forward to updating you in next month’s issue with our Easter egg hunt and getting active for Sport Relief.
