Welcome to the August issue of The Sprotbrough Arrow.
It’s great to see that the Sprotbrough Gala and Festival was a huge success and the race went to plan despite the sweltering heat! Well done to everyone who competed in the race and to Joe Phillips, the overall winner. Organisers of these events work so hard to get everything right, starting the planning process months before. Credit to everyone involved, it’s great to see the community come together and enjoy the weekend. Well done everyone. I hope all y6 children who have worked so hard this year have been rewarded with good SAT’s results. It gets harder every year for both the staff and the pupils involved. I hope you all enjoy a lovely summer break. The deadline for the September issue is 15th August. The Sprotbrough Arrow will be delivered by 31st August.
Best wishes Michelle Sidebottom Mobile: 07795 387937 email:michelle@arrowpublications.co.uk

Richmond Hill Primary Academy Healthy Week 2018 We had another exciting Healthy Week this year, packed full of sports, fun and sunshine! Pupils took part in lots of different activities including taekwondo, cheerleading, hockey and, of course, Sports Days! It wasn’t just about physical health, though. Pupils took part in mindfulness sessions and discussions aimed at promote positive mental attitudes and health throughout the week. Thank you to everyone that came and supported the pupils during their Sports Days. As ever, we appreciate your constant enthusiasm and support!
Happy Birthday, Mrs. Clarke!
A selection of our choir members were delighted to be invited to perform at the 90th birthday of a Doncaster resident, Mrs. Clarke! The choir sang a couple of songs, with a lovely backdrop of Cusworth Hall. We are absolutely over the moon that our choir were selected to attend and the pupils were honoured to perform at such a special occasion.

School News from Copley Junior School
Children’s University 2018 In July we attended the Children's University Graduation Ceremony at the Hub in Doncaster. Sixty two of our children 'graduated', having achieved at least 30 hours of extra-curricular learning. This year our graduates have achieved an amazing 10 144 hours of extra-curricular learning. Wow! Well done to all our graduates, and a special mention to Ella S who has achieved her aim of over 1000 hours. She has now achieved the highest award of Gold Fellowship. Sports Festival at the English Institute of Sport As part of our local partnerships in P.E. and Games, we were invited to take part in an inter-school Sports Festival at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield. This was a great opportunity for children to engage in sport with other schools at a world class sporting facility. Each school represented a different country – we embraced Denmark!

Year 6 Residential Visit to Northumberland Well done to our Year 6 pupils, who returned from their residential visit to Northumberland with many tales of fun and adventures. The children had a very busy four days, which included a visit to Alnwick Castle and a broomstick workshop, a boat trip to the Farne Islands landing on Inner Farne and visits to Dunstanburgh Castle, Vindolanda and Beamish Museum. The children stayed in Seahouses in a hotel next to the beach so evening activities included cricket, paddling in the very cold sea and playing games on the beautiful sandy beach. Many adults at the venues we visited commented on the interest and enthusiasm of the children, as well as their excellent behaviour and polite manners, so well done to everyone. Times Tables ‘Rock Wrangle’ After a year of practising our times tables, we enjoyed the fun, excitement and high tension of our ‘Rock Wrangle’. This saw year group competitions against the clock, supported by rock music backing tracks and our rock star audience of children – who were very active and vocal in their support! The year group finalists all received a certificate and the year group winners were presented with an engraved gold medal. After a final tense round, our 2018 Times Tables Rock Star winner was announced as Afreen N in Year 5.

67th Scout Sprotbrough Festival/Gala Thank you to all who supported the event whether it be volunteering, donating or attending. We had a fabulous weekend. The Saturday evening was superb with the return of Toby Burras who supported the talented up and coming band At The Arcade. We received amazing feedback about the music, so well done lads! Yet again everyone enjoyed the fair rides and the variety of tasty food on offer. We were joined again by Vintage Ice Creams, who provided not only delicious ice creams but chilled prosecco. Fizz & Barrel went down a treat with their stylish bar, selling a selection of gins and craft ales. On Sunday the sun was shining and the field was bursting with rides and activities. The runners were out in force and all gave a fantastic effort despite the warm weather. Well done to all who took part. A huge thankyou to our sponsors, and a big thankyou to all the local business that donated prizes for our raffle. All donations are listed on our Facebook. We raised valuable funds for the 67th Scout group; this will help fund camps, canoeing, rock climbing, scouting equipment and so much more. As I’m sure you can appreciate the whole event takes a lot of organisation and we rely greatly on our volunteers, therefore we were all extremely pleased to receive lots of positive feedback and we do hope you join us again next year! If you are interested in volunteering within our Scouts group either as a leader, committee member or supporter, please contact us at sprotbrough67thscout.sup@gmail.com. Roles and hours can vary from a few hours each year, to a few hours per week. We would love to hear from you!
