School’s out for summer! I hear the gasp of relief, home schooling has been a huge challenge for so many parents and grandparents over the last few months. Hopefully life can return to a little bit of normality and we can spend some quality time with our families over the next 6 weeks. Children can now look forward to returning to school in September and spending time with their friends and teachers. This time of year, the Arrow would be full of prom photos, leaver parties, summer fayres etc., but, as you know, that’s not been possible! I sincerely hope all of our young people who have missed out on this special transition year, whether it is to Secondary School, College, 6th Form or University/workplace, have the chance to say goodbye to those they will miss, and succeed in their new environments. Good luck to everyone awaiting their exam results and congratulations to those who have received their SATs. The deadline for the September issue is earlier than normal due to the holiday break Monday 10th August. The September issue will be distributed the week commencing 24th August. Keep safe everyone. Test your smoke alarms today! Be honest, when was the last time you tested your smoke alarm? Shockingly, there were no working smoke alarms at almost half of the accidental house fires we attended last year. These are life-saving devices that, if working, will give you early warning of a fire in your home. Haven’t got any? You’re taking a huge gamble. They can be purchased from most local hardware stores or, if you’re unable to get out, online. Alternatively, we may be able to fit you some for free, if you’re deemed at particular risk of fire. Fill out the form on our website and we’ll get back to you when COVID19 restrictions allow.
4
Already got some? Great, just make sure you test them regularly! We know how easy it is to forget. Or maybe you said you’d do it tomorrow, but then tomorrow came and went. We’ve all been there… That’s why we offer a free smoke alarm reminder service. All you have to do is visit www.pressthebutton.co.uk, give us your email address or phone number and we’ll do the rest. A regular reminder, straight to your phone. What’s not to love? Don’t delay, sign up today!

Boston Park Farm reopens… We are pleased to announce the reopening of the farm and outdoor play areas as of 5th July for prebooked tickets only. The tea room has also opened for take-out options from a limited menu to begin with. Due to current covid-19 restrictions all indoor play areas are closed, but at Boston Park Farm we are still a traditional working farm, our animal trail allows children to get up close with a wide range of farm animals. You can pet and feed most of the animals and every day we have animal handling sessions. The whole experience is geared to suit children up to around 10 years old. We have the fabulous Maize Maze to explore, outdoor play equipment, mud kitchens and the bale pyramid. Make sure you visit our Tractor Track and race around on our brand-new go karts! You and your child can have hours of fun exploring everything we have to offer here at the farm. Remember to ensure our visitor numbers remain at the right level and keep everyone safe you MUST pre-book your tickets via our website: www.bostonpark.com

Doncaster Ramblers A local walk from Scawthorpe
Please take care when walking and follow the Countryside Code. People in England can exercise with up to five others from different households provided physical distancing guidelines are followed. People living alone or single parents with children under 18, can meet outdoors. Give way to other walkers. No navigation skills required on this 5 ½ mile route all on solid tarmac, so no boots required either. The walk begins on Langthwaite Lane and follows the Doncaster Greenway in a northerly direction for just over ½ mile before turning imperceptibly left to continue west for 1100m passing under the A638 with the fringe of Highfields Country Park on the left and a small lake to the left. At a fork in the path take the left signposted Roman Ridge, and continue for 960m to reach steps. Climb with care and turn left. You know have just over two miles of uninterrupted straight line walking ahead, popular with cyclists, dog walkers, and families alike. I liked this walk because there was no mud, the entire five miles was under asphalt. Eventually as you close in on the A638 you might wonder how to cross the road. No worries there are plenty of pedestrian crossings to choose, but the aim is to get onto Watch House Lane opposite by the Ford Garage. Once you’ve navigated the traffic continue on Watch House Lane for 420m and immediately after crossing bridge see steps on the right. Descend with care – see photo. Turn right and follow the path northwards for ¾ mile to reach Jossey Lane. Turn left onto Langthwaite Lane and the start.

Sprotbrough's new playground now complete The new Anchorage Lane community playground is now complete. Sean Easton, pictured right, from contractors Brambledown Landscapes officially handed over the futuristic play area to Sprotbrough & Cusworth Parish Council at a ceremony attended by ward and parish councillors. After having a guided tour of the play equipment ,Councillor David Holland, Chairman of the parish council, said: "I'm delighted with the finished product. Gone is the traditional, but dated, equipment that was here for many years and served the community well. In its place is a new generation play area where youngsters can really let their imagination loose. I'm sure local families will be thrilled when they see it for themselves. "The security fencing is staying in place for the moment to allow some seeded areas of grass near the entrance to get established. We will make an announcement about an opening ceremony as soon as we can, so please bear with us until then." Councillor Holland, left, is pictured with Deputy Chair, councillor Kevin Rogers, and councillors Jane Nightingale and Bill Mordue from Bentley Ward, which donated £10,000 towards the project from community funds. An area of Sprotbrough from York Road to Anchorage Lane and Anchorage Crescent sits within their ward.

School News from Copley Junior School
Year 6 Graduation
Although we could not celebrate with our usual Year 6 Graduation, we have been keen to say well done to our Year 6 leavers as we are very proud of them all. Children’s beautiful work folders were presented in the hall, along with a ‘Year 6 survival bag’. All children had House Point Badges to collect and sixteen children in Year 6 achieved our highest award of the House Point Trophy. This is a significant award that recognises children with over 700 House Points! I am sure you will agree that the children look great in their Year 6 Leavers’ Hoodies! Personalised photograph memory cards with messages from all the staff were presented to each child.

07795387937 Local RSPCA re-opens! Following the lifting of certain lockdown restrictions we are delighted that we can now offer an appointment only service at our Animal Centre for potential adopters to meet the animals in our care. We have new processes in place – please see our website rspcadoncasterrotherham.org.uk – to protect the health and safety of the animal, adopters and our team. The other good news is that our charity shops at Rossington and Thorne are open for business and Bawtry and Maltby open August 1st. We are happy to accept donations from all of your decluttering during lockdown! With the current situation we are seeing an increase in stray and abandoned animals being brought into our care, many requiring veterinary treatment or additional support. Throughout lockdown, our Animal Centre team has worked hard to provide care for many vulnerable animals. Like many organisations, things have been tough here at RSPCA Doncaster, Rotherham and District Branch over the past couple of months. We recently wrote about how our income had reduced by 95% due to the COVID 19 pandemic. We have been overwhelmed by the response and generosity of our supporters but there is a long way still to go. There are many ways to help us deliver our mission to rehome and rehabilitate animals during this time including donating cash or goods, sponsoring us through our Safe Haven programme, leaving a legacy, and at the Animal Centre we have a pet supplies store on site for all your requirements. We also provide a pet cremation service and a memorial garden for your beloved pets. To donate £5, text ‘RSPCADRB’ to 70085.

SPROTBROUGH COMMUNITY LIBRARY We have applied to The Council to be able to open from Monday 27th July but are still awaiting approval. Be reassured that we are doing our utmost to move closer to returning to serving the Community. We are working alongside DMBC corporate landlord and The Library Service to create an environment which is safe for all our library users. Please keep your eye on our website and local facebook hubs which will be updated when we know what and when we are able to offer our services to you. When we do open it will initially be a reduced hours service Monday 11- 2pm Wednesday 3pm – 6pm and Friday 11am – 2pm Central Library are currently offering a click and collect service from The Old Central Library site in Doncaster. If you are able to offer any time to support the library as a volunteer or as part of FOSL (Friends of Sprotbrough Library] as we move towards re-opening please don’t hesitate to contact us on 07852290984 or speak to any volunteer that you may be familiar with. A huge thank you to one of our most treasured volunteers, our Storyteller, Mrs Joan Bradley, who will not be continuing in this role as we re-open. She has had a positive impact on so many children through our storytelling and activities sessions and will be sadly missed in this role. Joan will continue to create the wonderful displays in the library. We therefore appeal for someone who would be willing to lead this role in the future. To discuss this possibility or other volunteering roles please contact Maureen O’Brien 07852290984 Tel: 01302 782436 Sprotbrough Rd., Doncaster, DN5 8BA
