It has come to our attention that a number of hoax phone calls, claiming to be from Age UK and on some occasions Age Concern, have been made to vulnerable older people living in Doncaster. If you receive a phone call from Age UK or Age Concern asking for bank details can you please hang up and call us directly on 01302 812345 to report this. We have not worked under the name of Age Concern for a number of years now since Age Concern and Help the Aged joined together to be form Age UK in 2009/2010 Hoax and nuisance phone calls are a major problem for vulnerable older people, many of whom may be socially isolated, living with mental health issues, and can be quick to trust. Year 5 Residential Visit to Eyam
Our intrepid Year 5 explorers set off to Eyam at the end of June for an action packed residential visit. The visit brought alive the children’s learning about the Eyam Plague, as they could visit all the places they had been learning about. Taking part in a residential visit is an important part of children’s educational experiExploring the Great Outdoors ence in Years 5 and 6 at Copley Junior. Children have opportunity to develop independence and to develop skills of team work and cooperation as they take part in a varied and active programme of visits and activities. Summer Fair Thank You! Thank you to children, parents/carers and relatives, members of the CSA and local businesses who supported our Summer Fair. We raised £1500, which will be used to benefit all the children in school. The CSA has recently donated £2000 to our huge investment in new reading books and £2000 to investment in ICT. We have some budding entrepreneurs in Year 6 who designed, made and organised games for the Summer Fair. This was very successful and their total profit, after costs, came to an amazing £470! We look forward to sharing more school news next month. Best wishes, E.A. Crayton, Head teacher

Digging for Doncaster volunteers sought for new archaeological exploration
History enthusiasts around Doncaster are being given a unique opportunity to get their hands dirty alongside leading archaeologists this summer as part of a fortnight-long dig to try to uncover secrets about the town’s First World War and military history. As part of the Doncaster 1914-18 project, archaeologists will be conducting two weeks of excavations in the grounds of St Peter in Chains Church on Chequer Road – the former location of the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry’s Scarbrough Barracks and just a stone’s throw away from the project’s curators at Doncaster Museum & Art Gallery. Members of the public will be trained in archaeological techniques, before picking up trowel and brush to see what early 20thcentury stories they can uncover buried beneath the ground. “The dig site in central Doncaster offers a fantastic opportunity for those with an interest in history to work on a real archaeological dig. The site is the location of the former Scarbrough Barracks; these were built shortly after World War I, but prior to this the site was used for military training during the war, so we are hoping to find evidence of what activities were carried out here,” comments project manager, Dr Glyn Davies of ArcHeritage, which has been commissioned to undertake the dig. “A recent dig at what is now the new cultural quarter revealed practice trenches excavated by soldiers training in Doncaster. We don't know if they were undertaking similar training in trenching on the barracks site but the excavation provides us with the opportunity to find out what they were doing.” During the main dig, running from 10 – 22 August, the archaeologists will require 15 – 20 volunteers each day to help dig and process finds – including cleaning, labelling and bagging - but before that, around 5 people per day are needed at the end of July to help with geophysical surveys of the site. “This will give us an indication of the best places to start digging so that we can focus our efforts on parts of the land that have the highest potential to contain archaeological remains,” explains Dr Davies. The volunteering opportunity is open to anyone over the age of 16, and no prior experience is necessary. Training will be provided on the Monday and Wednesday of each week, with volunteers then spending at least a day working on the site. Young archaeologists can also get involved, as those aged between 8 and 16 can join the team if they are accompanied at all times by a parent. “Our team are spending the next four and a half years talking to communities in and around Doncaster about the experiences of their ancestors during the First World War and we are hopeful that this archaeological excavation will help us better understand how we prepared our young men for life on the front line,” says Doncaster 1914-18 Project Manager, Jude Holland. Father Augustine O’Reilly of St Peter in Chain’s Church added, “We are supportive of this project and encourage a good response to the appeal for volunteers. I hope it will be productive and the knowledge gained may be a source of great inspiration to future generations.” Alongside the volunteering opportunities, the dig will be open to the public every day (except Sundays) between 10-22 August, 10am-4pm. On Saturdays 15 August and Saturday 22 August, visitor can join in action packed archaeology open days between 10am-4pm. There will be hands-on activities, and fun for all the family. The Great War on Tour, the Project’s travelling roadshow will be present on both days, presenting a snapshot of Doncaster 1914-18’s latest research. “Once visitors have seen the archaeology in action, they can pop into the museum to learn more about the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry’s role in the War in our new exhibition, ‘A Call To Arms’,” adds Jude. For details on how to register, volunteers should visit www.doncaster1914-18.org.uk or the ArcHeritage website http://www.archeritage.co.uk/news/#790 or contact ArcHeritage, by email diggingfordoncaster@yorkat.co.uk or phone 0114 2728884. Orchard Infant School News During week commencing 22nd June 2015, Orchard Infant School participated in 'National School Sports Week' to help raise children's awareness of exercise and personal fitness. In this week, we had lots of visitors to lend a hand getting the children active. Tuesday saw Luis Sylvester and Jamie Canning teaching the children tennis skills, incorporating team games such as 'cross the river' and hands on racket and ball skills. On Thursday 25th June, Mrs Caress (school parent) from Clayton School of Dance came in to do a dance and fitness routine with all classes. She got the children motivated and engaged and lots of fun was had by all!

Finally, on Friday 26th June Mr Dan (www.mrdan.co.uk) came in to do a full day's skipping workshop. Children were shown a variety of skipping tricks and skills including river dance, crossover, rodeo and can-can. Vital funds for the NSPCC were also raised as part of the skipping workshops. Skipping ropes can still be purchased from the school office if you are interested! Children all received a certificate at the end of the week in recognition of their achievements during 'National School Sports Week' so well done children! The staff at Orchard would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to all our in-school visitors and helpers during the week for all their hard work and commitment! Additionally, on Wednesday 1st July 2015, we held our annual sports day and summer fayre in the school grounds. Despite the temperamental weather the children received lots of support from friends and family, cheering them on from the sidelines in their individual races. Funds raised from the summer fayre stand at ÂŁ200. A big thank you for to all who contributed to a fantastic day. Of course, as another academic year draws to a close, we have to say goodbye to another year group of children. Our summer concert finalĂŠ, in which these children will perform, will be held on Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th July. They have been fabulous children to teach and we wish them lots of luck in their new school! We will be back to article writing in September, after the summer break, keep your eager eyes peeled for more updates on our fun then! Miss Jones (Year 2)

Richmond Hill Primary School
The Reunion
Excitement and anticipation was in the air as the Class of 2015 met up with their old school friends for ‘The Reunion’. Our Y6 End of Year Performance gave our 11 year olds (and parents) a glimpse into what their futures may hold 30 years from now. An Olympian, geneticist, world famous ballerina, poet and a multi-billionaire entrepreneur, were scattered amongst the comedy and songs to produce a thoroughly unforgettable evening. Good luck Year 6 on your journey to secondary school and beyond!
Champions!
Jessica Ennis-Hill once said “Always believe, and when you do, life can get unbelievable”. That was certainly true this year at Richmond Hill Primary Academy’s Sports Day! All our pupils were eager to do their very best with some record breaking athletic displays sparkling through the summer sunshine.
