There comes a time in many of our lives when the need for care in our old age becomes a reality. If you have assets exceeding £23,250 the cost of care will need to be met by yourself. For some, this means selling the family home. However, many people who are in this position are not aware that funding may be available for them.

Will the NHS pay for my care? If the need for care primarily is a health need, YES In these circumstances the NHS are obligated to meet the care costs of the individual in full. This funding is known as continuing healthcare, and is sometimes abbreviated to CHC funding.

How can I receive this funding? It is difficult to secure continuing healthcare. Providing this funding to individuals is incredibly expensive for the NHS, in the same way it is incredibly expensive to pay privately. As a result it is regularly the case that the NHS attempt to apply a higher bar to satisfy than is set out in law and in the Department of Health literature pertaining to continuing healthcare. Many people who should be receiving in full to meet the cost of their care are not. It is estimated there are 100,000 in the UK presently paying for care when these costs should be met by continuing healthcare.

What can I do to find out if I am eligible for this funding? At Guardian Continuing Healthcare we have a high success rate of securing continuing healthcare for our clients. If you or your relative is paying for care and you believe there is a health need, perhaps because they suffer from Parkinson’s disease, dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, then contact an expert member of our team today to discuss your options and find out how we can assist.

Community News

Warmsworth W.I. Can you believe this is our 3rd year? And once again we have had a very full and enjoyable calendar along with some fantastic days out. Our Christmas Lunch was thoroughly enjoyed by all at the Stables Restaurant, in May we visited Renishaw Hall and in June we held another successful Beetle Drive. Our Faith Supper was also a great success as well as the visit in July to the vineyard in Holmfirth where we sampled their wines. Jean Thompson visited Buckingham Palace as our WI representative to celebrate 100 years of the WI and we also hosted the Harvest Supper. This year our quiz team won the South Yorkshire federation quiz competition so congratulations to them. Our treasure hunt and annual stall at the gala were also both a great success with interesting speakers being invited to our group session meetings at regular intervals thoughout the year. This year there has also been a lot of media coverage about the WI through the TV programmes Home Fires and the Great British Menu. Hopefully this will spur greater interest in the WI in the future. If you are interested in joining us or know of anyone who might, we hold our local meetings on the first Thursday of each month from 7pm at the Community Centre, Low Road West in Warmsworth. Finally we must take this opportunity to thank the management and staff at the Holiday Inn, Warmsworth for providing judging at our cake stall at the annual Apple Day event. We would also like to thank them for the generous donation of the raffle prize. Further information can be obtained from Janice on 01302 854167.

School News from

Copley Junior School

Children in Need Thank you to our generous children and parents, for helping us to raise £268 for Children in Need. We had lots of fun in school and enjoyed wearing our fancy dress clothes. Year 3 Visit to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park Our Year 3 children enjoyed an exciting launch to their study of predators with a visit to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. As well as a full tour outside, the children had a session with the education team, which gave them chance to get much closer to the wildlife!

Astrosphere Visit for Year 5 Year 5 had a surprise visit from the Astrosphere to launch their new project on Space. Children entered the Astrosphere and once inside, enjoyed a presentation about the wonders of our universe. Images were projected inside the space dome to help children understand why we have day and night, different seasons and why we have different phases of the Moon. It’s Magic at Copley! The Magic Club of Great Britain launched our work to raise awareness of National Anti-Bullying Week. The children were very engaged with the interactive magic show, and key messages about being a good friend and zero tolerance of bullying were highlighted throughout. This has been followed up by all classes undertaking class activities to reinforce the anti-bullying message before a whole school ‘stamp for a minute’ to show our commitment to stamp out bullying. Throughout the week we were very impressed by the thoughtfulness and consideration of our pupils as they considered these issues. Maths Investigation Week We provide regular opportunities in Maths lessons for children to develop their problem solving skills. As part of this, we hold regular opportunities to tackle Maths investigations. Here Year 4 are undertaking investigations about consecutive numbers. We look forward to sharing more school news next month. Best wishes, E.A. Crayton, Head teacher

Sprotbrough Orchard Infant School News

During week commencing 3rd November, all classes went on a fabulous school trip to Wilderspin National School near Hull. There, they learned about Victorian schooling, as part of our centre of interest work. The children looked at the similarities and differences between our schooling today and that of the past. There was opportunity for role play as Victorian children in a renovated Victorian classroom (they all look tremendous dressed in their Victorian clothing!). They even had the chance to see the cane! Our children had a great time and staff would like to extend their thanks to the parents who helped out. On Friday 13th November, children dressed as heroes to support the good charity work of Children in Need. The children paid £1 to dress up and an additional £1 to buy a Pudsey Bear bun. In total, we raised a healthy £405.45. As part of Sprotbrough's Christmas celebrations, a new tree has been planted opposite St. Mary's Church. Orchard children have been invited to draw their own colourful picture of a Christmas tree on plain A4 paper. Hopefully, a selection of these posters will then be displayed in the windows of local shops and businesses. Volvo came into school on Monday 16th November to donate some high visibility vests for the children to wear as part of a road safety awareness programme. As the Christmas period approaches, children and staff are very busy planning and enjoying a special and exciting time. Please look out for our article next month to see what festivities we have been up to.

Richmond Hill Primary Academy Powerful Athletes A group of very excited competitors returned to school following their outstanding performance at the Ridgewood Pyramid Y5/Y6 Athletics competition. Richmond Hill have won this event 10 years in succession and we are extremely proud that we now get to keep the trophy. Wonderful Winners Congratulations to pupils from Y2, Y3 and Y4 who recently competed in a mixed multi-skills competition with other local schools held at Ridgewood School. They won first place in a hotly contested battle. Remembrance Commemorations Our pupils were fortunate to have a visit from Jeff Swift of the Royal British Legion during our Remembrance Commemorations. We appreciate his involvement as it is a good way for the children to understand why we should never forget. This year we have also created a Remembrance Garden with pupils taking particular pride in decorating wooden remembrance crosses and planting them in the school grounds.

Diwali As part of our Diwali celebrations to raise cultural awareness, our Year 1 children experienced the delights of creating henna patterns (using chocolate!) and making onion bhajis. Children in Need This year’s fantastic fundraising for Children in Need was kick started with a kind donation of limited edition Pudsey cushions received from DFS in Doncaster – they were the star prizes in our special raffle! We were then visited in school by all manner of characters from Superman to Elsa and Dorothy with Toto, who helped us collect more donations for our Children in Need day. Making Good Choices Marc Griffiths – Inspirational Ventriloquist visited us recently to talk to our pupils on Making Good Choices – Your Amazing Life is Up to You! Marc portrays his themes excellently through the ventriloquist medium. The audience was enthralled!
