Doncaster Sheffield Airport launches airspace consultation A public consultation on proposed changes to the airspace around Doncaster Sheffield Airport (DSA) has been launched which will outline potential minor changes to the routes that aircraft depart and arrive into the airport. DSA is participating in a UK-wide initiative to modernise airspace known as the Future Airspace Strategy (FAS) backed by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), which will involve moving away from the traditional ground-based navigation and over to a new satellite navigation system known as Area Navigation (RNAV). The government’s objectives to modernise UK airspace policy are a welcome step which could bring wider benefits across the UK such as noise reduction, less CO2 and other emissions, plus fuel and time savings. The airport has taken the opportunity to utilise this new technology to develop and consult on improved departure and arrival routes from the site, investing over £250,000 in the design process. The new technology will allow aircraft to operate with greater accuracy within their designated flight paths when departing and arriving from DSA. The routes have been designed to be very close to the current routes but improved, where possible, to reduce disruption to communities surrounding the airport. This process will allow us to ensure that we are using our airspace in the most efficient way, whilst also reducing disruption to local communities. We have made considerable efforts to design these proposed routes to the benefit of local communities and to ensure safety. We have worked closely with local stakeholders to develop these proposals, including our Airport Consultative Committee made up of elected representatives, local public agencies, local business, residential communities and airport users. We would encourage all interested parties to participate in the consultation process. The consultation will run until 15th December 2017. More details including the full consultation document can be found on the DSA website: www.flydsa.co.uk/about-us/dsaconsultation/

At Age UK Doncaster we believe no one should have no one. Not at Christmas. Not ever. We believe that loneliness is not inevitable. People of all ages need connections that matter. Yet for 6,000 older people in Doncaster, loneliness is a daily reality and we don’t just mean at Christmas. A recent survey by Age UK found that nearly 400,000 people aged 65 and over in the UK were worried about being lonely over Christmas and nearly half of the UK was worried about being alone in later life. Since launching last year, The Circles project at Age UK Doncaster is working to beat loneliness and social isolation throughout the borough. Circles help people to be happier, healthier and more connected with the support of their community. Because everyone is different, Circles work with people to understand their individual needs, passions and interests. Each Circle has a purpose, this may be to build up confidence, start a new activity or get back to a hobby – The purposes are as varied as the people we support! We’re already seeing how Circles can help turn people’s lives around but we can’t do this without you! Volunteering with us is flexible – just 2 hour’s a month can make a real difference to someone’s life. Just like the people we support there’s no ‘one type’ of volunteer; what’s important is that you get involved in a way that suits you and is fun! Contact the Circles team on 01302 812345 to find out more.

DANUM PROBUS CLUB is an organisation for men who have retired or are semi-retired from their profession, business or other employment who want to maintain a social network with others who have similar interests. Danum Probus Club meets on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month at Town Moor Golf Club, Bawtry Road, Belle Vue, Doncaster starting at 10 am. Our Speakers on Monday 6 November were Dr Hugh and Judy who gave an audio visual presentation on Australia and South Africa, concentrating on the beautiful wild flowers which occur in those countries. This was a presentation in aid of Rotherham Hospice. On Monday 20 November, David Templeman’s subject was “Lady Arabella, the Queen who never was”. At one time it was thought that Lady Arabella might succeed Queen Elizabeth I. She was a great great grand daughter of Henry VII and had Stuart blood in her veins, but never aspired to the throne. Despite this, she ended her days in the Tower of London. In December we meet on Monday 4, when our guest, Malcolm Barnsdale will talk about “Old Doncaster”, and Monday 18 will be the Members Christmas Lunch. Where Alan Whitehall will be regaling us with tales of Spike Milligan. Any interested men who may be interested in joining us should call either Des Parks (01302 856188) or David Allen (01302 885813 for more information. Thank you.

School News from Copley Junior School National Accreditation Success Our Eco Council call themselves the 'Green Team'. Led with great enthusiasm by Miss Walker, our Eco Council aims to develop environmental awareness across our school community and to care for and develop our local environment. The children have developed our Copley Eco Code, they led our participation in ‘Switch Off Fortnight’, they have organised competitions, designed a new eco-friendly building for Doncaster and won Doncaster’s Architecture Competition last year. They have promoted active travel to school and our Recycle Team promote recycling across school. As a result, we have been awarded the national Eco Schools Award at Silver level. Well done to the Eco Council! We are very proud of our Eco Council as we have also been awarded the Woodland Trust’s ‘Green Tree School’ Award at Bronze level. The children are already working towards the Silver Award! Year 5 launch their ‘Stargazers’ Learning Project Year 5 launched their ‘Stargazers’ creative learning project with a fascinating visit to the National Space Centre in Leicester. The visit provided many opportunities to learn about the wonders of Space, with so many presentations and interactive exhibits for the children to explore.

Move it for Money this Guide Dog Week We are very proud of some of our thoughtful and resourceful Year 6 pupils, who decided to organise a bun and cookie sale in support of Guide Dogs for the Blind and Partially Sighted. The children planned and led this independently and they raised an amazing £277.50. Following the fundraising, Rufus (with his owner Derek) came to tell us more about the work of guide dogs. Rufus was very patient as children queued after the assembly to give him a stroke and a pat! Express Events We invite parents/carers to regular ‘express’ events through the year when the children present (‘express’) their learning. So far this year, Year 3 parents have been invited to the Scrumdiddlyumptious café where they sampled the tasty fruit smoothies designed and created by the children; Year 4 showcased their Vikings project work, demonstrated how Viking guards led an attack and even encouraged parents to have a go and Year 5 presented their learning about Ancient Egypt through ‘theatre in the round’ and exhibited their fabulous project work. For our next express event, Year 6 will open the Copley Museum to share their learning about World War II. We look forward to sharing more school news soon. Best wishes, E.A. Crayton Head teacher

Richmond Hill Primary School News Y1 Literacy Launch It seems that the frost we’ve been seeing recently brought a cool surprise to school for Year 1, who had their Literacy Launch! Bundled up in their hats, coats, scarves and gloves, pupils were led into the main hall to find all sorts of snow-themed clues that would lead them to finding out the subject of their Literacy book. Pupils had taken part in some Prediction Activities before entering their winter wonderland, which also helped them figure out who they would be reading about in their new Literacy work. The clues left for the intrepid pupils were snow, snowballs, a winter coat, a magic wand, a silver throne and real ice! From all of their activities, the classes figured out that they would be reading about a magical snow queen. From there, they discovered that they would be looking at The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen! Well done to Year 1 for all their hard work, which made for an exciting launch! Nursery Following on from our previous update, we are pleased to report that we have spaces available for the 30 hours provision in our Nursery. For more details, please contact either Julie Found or Karen O'Keeffe on 01302 782421 .

Remembrance For Remembrance Day this year, we were joined once again by Jeff Swift from the Royal British Legion for an assembly teaching the importance of Remembrance to our pupils and staff. Mr Swift had also provided the school with poppies and other Royal British Legion fundraising materials for the pupils, which our fundraising materials for the pupils, which our School Council members helped in distributing. Thank you to our School Council for their assistance over the week, and thank you once again to Jeff Swift and the Royal British Legion for their continued support. Anti-Bullying Week National Anti-Bullying Week came to Richmond Hill once again, with this year's theme of 'All Different, All Equal'. The week kicked off with Odd Socks Day, in which pupils wore odd socks to help raise money for AntiBullying work in school. Our staff also joined in, wearing their oddest socks and taking part in an Odd Socks competition! Pupils undertook all manner of activities in class, promoting and celebrating their differences and the importance of respect. Pupils created posters, had group discussions and our posters, had group discussions and our ambassadors even took part in an LGBTQ training event, to promote respect and equality. We would like to thank Cristos from Barnardo's children's charity for his ongoing work in school, promoting equality and providing training for our staff and pupils.

Also fit Alarms

We would also like to thank our staff and pupils for their dedication to Anti-Bullying work in school.

This handsome boy is Bandit, a 7 year old Border Collie who is looking for a new home as his owner is very ill. Bandit is a typical Collie. full of energy and bounce and will need an active home with a garden to play football in! He does have basic training and will obey commands, but needs a bit of work on the lead. He is wary of other dogs and not good with cats, so best as the only pet in the home. We are told he is fine with kids aged 8+. Bandit is neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped. If you would like to meet this smashing boy, please give Isle Rescue a call on 01427 728705

Sprotbrough Orchard Infant School News

On Friday 22nd October Orchard held a Harvest Festival assembly. Children brought in food and toiletries for the homeless project run by M25, Housing and Support Group, Doncaster. Tuesday 7th - Friday 10th November all Year One and Year Two classes visited Nostell Priory, in Wakefield, to tie in with this half terms centre of interest – The Great Outdoors. Thankfully the weather was extremely kind to us all, for the beginning of November, giving the children opportunity to have a fun filled day in the woods. They made ‘characters’ for a story out of clay and a ‘magic carpet’ out of natural found materials to take their character on an adventure. From this the children recorded some fabulous stories packed with imagination and originality. Children in Reception are enjoying the use of fabulous new resource kindly donated by a local business Quadruple & Co. The ‘Imagination Station’ has been used to encourage play in the outdoors and the children have enjoyed creating their own magic potions using natural resources found in the school grounds.
