Welcome to the February issue of the Sprotbrough Arrow We can just about see that flicker of light at the end of the tunnel. It is still a flicker, but it is there and we are making progress. Doncaster hope to have vaccinated all 4 top priority groups by mid February, this will be a fantastic achievement and something to feel proud of. At the time of going to print, our rates were also continuing to fall which is really good news. A restriction free life still seems like some time away but we know the end is in sight. Thank you to all of our front line key workers from the NHS and police to teaching staff and shopworkers. I would also like to thank all of our delivery staff for their efforts each month to make sure the Arrow is delivered to everyone on time. The deadline for the March issue is Wednesday 17th February. The March issue will be distributed the last weekend in February.

Community News

Community grants for local good causes - could your group cash in?

Every year Sprotbrough & Cusworth Parish Council awards a number of small grants to local good causes that benefit residents living in the area we serve. "Organisations like the 28th Doncaster St Edmunds Scout Group, who were awarded a grant of £620 towards replacing vital gas bottles and other equipment that was callously stolen by thieves from their meeting hut, said Parish Chair Cllr David Holland. "And more recently we have helped the Don Gorge Community Group with funds to pay their insurance costs. There have been many more examples of how our grants have helped over the years. Don't miss out on an opportunity to boost your fund-raising ready for when things start to get back to something like normal."

Check out the guidance notes by visiting: www.sprotbroughandcusworthparishcouncil.gov.u k/grants You can either fill in the online form or print the pdf and send the completed version to the parish council office at the Goldsmith Centre, Sprotbrough Road.

WARMSWORTH LADIES’ CLUB Hello Sending New Year wishes to you all and the hope that the days ahead bring happiness and the chance for us to meet again soon!

When the NHS contacts you or a loved one to get vaccinated, you may be offered a few places to go including vaccination sites or pharmacies which are located in neighbouring towns and cities. This is simply a way for you to access a vaccination quicker. PLEASE DON’T WORRY if you can’t get to the first place should it not be suitable—you WILL be offered other ways to get a jab soon

Sprotbrough Christmas Lights, was a little different this year; no crowds allowed because of Government restrictions. Not to be deterred, the group, organised by Carol Rees, did the village proud with the best looking Christmas tree so far (thanks to Brittains Beverages’ sponsorship). St Mary’s Church provided lights again, as did the Scott Practice surgery. The tree at the top of Boat Lane looked magnificent and it was good to see Ottos supporting with lights and trees too. The group asked for folk to supply and hang stars on the tree and around the adjacent trees; an amazing response was seen with over 200 appearing! Lovely bows were hand made by our Bowmaker and appeared on the tree too; they looked great! The event and all the lights certainly lifted spirits in the village and a big thank you goes to everyone who helped as you have each year; You all know who you are and the event could not have been so successful without your help. A mention goes also to Riverstones Electrical, Sprotbrough Parish Council, DMBC lighting team, Kerb Appeal North Ltd., Richard “Longpole” and Pleveys for support and specialist help / kit.

Also fit Alarms

Sprotbrough Christmas Lights group have been greatly encouraged by the wonderful support and comments this year and already plans are being formulated for 2021’s event, hopefully with a crowd and a switch-on ceremony!

School News from Copley Junior School Our start to the New Year at school proved to be very different to what we expected, with the government’s sudden closure of schools in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. As always, Copley Junior has risen to the challenge and I am very proud of the resilience and enthusiasm of our children, the support of our parent community and the dedication of our hardworking teaching team. We are supporting provision in school for vulnerable children and children of critical key workers, so we have the challenge of teaching just under 100 children in school and just over 100 children at home. We are ensuring equality of provision, with teachers delivering lessons in school and then leading online lessons with children at home, with all children then completing the same work tasks. During the summer term, we launched use of the Seesaw learning app and we use this across school for all children to upload their home learning tasks and for the children now learning at home. This means that children working at home can upload their work and teachers are able to provide feedback for each child on each piece of work that they upload every day. We have such enthusiastic children and supportive parents so, in spite of the challenges we are currently facing, children are still engaging with their work brilliantly, whether they are at home or at school. During the first full week back at school in January, as well as every single child at home accessing online lessons, an amazing 3127 posts of work were uploaded to children’s Seesaw accounts!

Each week we celebrate the achievements of every child by presenting a ‘Highlights of the Week’ PowerPoint to share with pupils and parents. This features a great piece of work from all children working at school and at home every week. Well done children – keep up the fantastic work until we can all be together again. Take care everyone and stay safe E.A. Crayton Head teacher

Richmond Hill Academy As schools have closed due to the pandemic, at Richmond Hill we have been providing teaching in our school classrooms and also in our zoom classrooms. We are all working together to make sure we all keep connected with live lessons in home or at school. We are blown away with the engagement and how quickly we are all adapting.

Here’s a selection: Y2 have been exploring Hanukkah in RE, Reception have been enjoying their phonics lessons and exploring Google Earth in geography, Year 1 have been making month of the year paper chains in maths. Year 6 have been reading Goodnight Mr Tom and creating some fantastic work and making amazing models of Anderson Shelters.

Our Nursery remains open

Well the snow was certainly enjoyed by our Nursery pupils, they were really excited to be wrapped up and out building snowmen and snowballs together. Look who has landed at Richmond Hill - our Nursery early starters in their very own rocket đ&#x;š€. We think they are out of this world to have settled so well in the current climate.
