Editor’s Letter...
After the chaos of Christmas, January has been rather a sedate month it appears. We have certainly escaped the bad weather unlike so many others around the country and this mild weather has allowed us to slip back into routine without any disruption. Fingers crossed it stays this way. This months Arrow has information on forth coming events in February. If you have news or information you would like to share about planned events this year, please share it in the Arrow. E mail me the information using the contact details below. The deadline for the March issue for advertising and articles is Wednesday 12th February. The March Arrow will be delivered the last weekend in February.
Best Wishes

Saturday, April 5 2014, 10.00am – 12 noon In St Mary’s Church Hall Browse our Easter Stall of goods and games, choose home-made cakes, books and ‘soaps and scents’. Visit the Garden Stall and try your luck on the Raffle and Tombola. Admission £1 including refreshment This year a donation will be made to the ‘St John’s Hospice Development Appeal’.
Dog Walking Group in Sprotbrough. Dogs are pack animals and enjoy each other's company, but we keep them apart and walk them in isolation, often going a different route to avoid meeting other dogs! This leads to unsocial used dogs, who do not know how to relate to each other. If you would like to socialise your dog, allow it to play with other dogs off lead or just walk with other dogs, join me in forming a weekly dog walking group. No great distances, but plenty of open spaces. If you would like to put aside an hour each week to meet other dog owners, contact me by email at Paula.harmer@yahoo.com so that we can arrange a day, place and time.

News, News, News, News, News, News.. Dementia friendly communities (DFC) Sprotbrough is Doncaster’s first community to launch this initiative, supported by Churches Together in Sprotbrough, Alzheimer’s Society, Sue Ryder, RVS, Doncaster CCG and Social Services. The aim is to support carers and people with dementia by improving awareness and help facilitate early access to services working with other agencies. We are promoting the following events:
Memory Cafe -We are working with Alzheimers Society to establish a memory cafe in the Hall in spring, possibly linked to food/music. We will use part of the open day to consult and engage the community. Anyone interested can ring Therese at St Marys Church, Sprotbrough on 01302 853587.
A carers peer support group will start alternate Tuesdays from 21st January 1-3p.m in the stables run by Sue Ryder. We are looking for two volunteers each session to serve refreshments and be willing to chat to carers. Sue Ryder also provide a fortnightly befriending service to people with dementia. Dementia awareness training can be provided free to anyone volunteering to help. You could become a Dementia Friend. Local businesses scheme -there is opportunity to sign up, get an info pack, receiving training and displaying the ‘forget me not’ dementia friendly symbol. A dementia open day will be held in the church hall Friday 14th March. There will be information stalls in the Hall, videos and taster activities and refreshments in the stables. It is hoped that various other organisations and businesses will support who are interested in raising awareness to protect, support and provide positive experiences for people with dementia and their carers.
