Welcome To the January issue of
Sprotbrough Arrow
Thank you to all our sponsors, advertisers and contributors. Your support is very much appreciated and we hope you have a successful, happy 2021. Thank you to our fabulous team of distributors, through hail and shine, you continue to deliver. You are amazing. Wow, the effort everyone has made, decorating their homes with lights this Christmas is so uplifting, if only Christmas would last till March :) I’m feeling really positive about 2021, with the new vaccine, we should hopefully regain some normality and return to our more recognisable lives. I have to admit, at times I have felt utterly miserable and know I am not alone. This is normally the time of year we sit and consider our future, new challenges and ‘resolutions’. What ever yours may be, I hope your journey through 2020 has not been too difficult and all your hopes and dreams for 2021 can be achieved.
The deadline for the February issue is Wednesday 20th January. The February issue will be distributed the last weekend in January. All the best for 2021 Michelle Sidebottom Tel: 07795 387937 michelle@arrowpublications.co.uk .arrowpublications.co.uk

Community News Ready, steady, census...
Households across Doncaster will soon be asked to take part in Census 2021.
The census is a once-in-a-decade survey that gives us the most accurate estimate of all the people and households in England and Wales. It has been carried out every decade since 1801, with the exception of 1941. Census day is Sunday 21 March 2021 and it will be the first to be run predominantly online, with households receiving a letter with a unique access code allowing them to complete the questionnaire on their computers, phones or tablets from early March. “A successful census will ensure everyone from local government to charities can put services and funding in the places where they are most needed,” Iain Bell, deputy national statistician at the Office for National Statistics, said. “This could mean things like doctors’ surgeries, schools and new transport routes. That’s why it is so important everyone takes part and we have made it easier for people to do so online on any device, with help and paper questionnaires for those that need them.” The census will include questions about your sex, age, work, health, education, household size and ethnicity. For the first time, there will be a question asking people whether they have served in the armed forces, as well as voluntary questions for those aged 16 and over on sexual orientation and gender identity. Results will be available within 12 months, and personal records will be locked away for 100 years, kept safe for future generations. There are also full and part time job opportunities available in Doncaster, please see www.censusjobs.co.uk for more information and to apply. For more information on how the census works and can benefit our community visit www.census.gov.uk or contact Laurance.green11@field.census.gov.uk 07452 940363

Sprotbrough Orchard Infant School The children at Orchard thoroughly enjoyed the festivities which led up to Christmas. We are looking forward to our new learning based around transport. The children in Nursery have enjoyed making Christmas wreaths out of paper plates, different coloured green card and pompoms. They had fun using tools to create different patterns with clay to create their own clay bauble. Reception child have painted angels and loved using the gold paint to add detail. The children were excited to create the Christmas story in both the bricks and small world. They used wool to decorate their own tree in order to practise their fine motor skills.
The children in Year 1 have also made clay baubles and used tools to create beautiful patterns. They particularly enjoyed adding glitter to make them sparkle! In PE they have learnt a celebration dance and enjoyed sharing this virtually with their parents. The children made Christingles, learning about what each part represents. They loved learning the story of ‘Father Christmas’, a story about Kevin the carrot’s journey based on The Gruffalo. It was written by the fabulous Mrs Woodhead!

Year 2 went on a local walk and completed a traffic survey. They created graphs to represent the vehicles they saw. The children enjoyed learning new dance routines as part of their Christmas concert. They learnt how to sign along to ‘Little Donkey’ using Makaton. These were all put together on a lovely video for parents to enjoy virtually. The children and staff at Orchard wish everyone a happy and healthy 2021

School News from Copley Junior School
Happy New Year from everyone at Copley. Christmas is now behind us, but after such a difficult time with COVID-19 restrictions, I am sure you will agree that it is not possible to have too much Christmas! Thanks to our supportive parent community and fantastic CSA team, children at Copley had many memorable and fun experiences at school to celebrate Christmas. Santa Dash During the first week of December, thanks to our CSA group, the children enjoyed taking part in Copley’s first ever Santa Dash. All children took part in a run in their year group bubbles within the school grounds as part of their timetabled P.E. lessons. The Santa Dash events looked very festive, with children wearing their Christmas jumper/t-shirt and a Santa hat. Following the Santa Dash year group events, the CSA kindly organised for children to be presented with chocolate gold coins and a certificate of achievement. Well done everyone and thank you to the CSA (and also Santa, who completed eight laps of the course as he led each Santa Dash!).

Christmas Hamper Raffle Thank you parents for your generosity in donating gifts for our Christmas hampers; we really do appreciate this greatly. Thank you also to CSA members who have spent many hours presenting items in hampers so beautifully. This meant that we were able to present an amazing 77 prizes in our Christmas Raffle! With so many prizes to award, we had a very exciting raffle draw. Father Christmas Visits Copley Father Christmas visited Copley in style, as children found Father Christmas in his vintage sports car waiting for them on the playground! With a magical grotto, decorations, a gift for each child and ‘real’ snow this was a magical experience for our very excited children. Doncaster Food Bank Support Well done to our thoughtful Year 6 House Leaders for Darwin House, Oliver, Isobel, Holly, Jessica and Sufyan. They worked independently to organise a collection for Doncaster Food Bank and we were able to drop off many bags to support local families at Christmas. We look forward to sharing more school news soon. E.A. Crayton Head teacher

Richmond Hill Academy Such Mischief! In the spirit of Elf on the Shelf we had a couple of big versions at Richmond Hill with these two causing mayhem all over school! Tree of Hope Our Tree of Hope has been decorated with 416 baubles, each made by a pupil and containing their own message for the future.
First Christmas at Richmond Hill Our Nursery children have been enjoying all the wonder of Christmas at Richmond Hill including rehearsing for their Christmas performance. Santa made a quick visit and amazingly and magically made it snow! Once the costumes are on we’ll be ready for filming so that parents can still be part of this wonderful experience.

Winter Wonderland We would like to take this opportunity to send a huge thank you to all our sponsors this year for helping us either with their time or cash donations to help us create our Winter Wonderland outside Richmond Hill:- Sprotbrough Parish Council for their £200 donation; Rob Woolley our Site Manager and the team from Adrian Welch Glass & Glazing for braving the elements one weekend and securing the lights in the trees; Trackwork Moll Ltd, SB Rail and Doncaster LDC Woodyard for their fundraising and placing all the baubles on our Tree of Hope. Our children have loved all the effort that has been put into our external display this year and we have received so many lovely comments from members of the community. Our Nutcrackers were particularly loved. A big thank you to Dave Cousins from DC Joinery for hand crafting and donating our two bespoke 8ft Nutcrackers, they blew everybody away! Chocolate Raffle Winners It’s not Christmas without a raffle. Raising funds towards next year’s bigger and better Christmas display in and around school. Congratulations to our winners. Reception children thoroughly enjoyed making these fantastic Christmas cards.
Year 5 with Sir Norbert Nicholas Jingle Jangle of Crackerton Hall who formed part of our nutcracker display.
