What a month, can you believe half the year is over? I can hear you say thank goodness for that! Normality has not yet returned but I am thankful for the few changes such as meeting up with others, businesses getting back to work and outdoor training sessions for all ages starting up again. We are currently awaiting information on further relaxing of restrictions following the news we have moved from level 4 to 3 so hopefully our cafes, bars and restaurants will receive some welcome news and hair and beauty salons can open again. They have been hit incredibly hard and I wish them all the very best of luck in rebuilding their businesses. I am hopeful usual community events can start up again soon so if you want to share any information in the August issue, please let me know. The deadline for the August issue is Wednesday 15th July. The August issue will be distributed the weekend beginning 24th July. Keep safe everyone.

Jerry and the Cake Maker! Last month we featured local hero and business woman, Lynsey Chambers from Parti Animals, who decided to spread some joy by baking cakes for key workers in Doncaster. Lynsey handed over her last batch of cakes on Monday 15th June having baked and delivered a whopping 10,000! Lynsey said ‘It’s been great, receiving so much positive feedback and photographs of people smiling and eating cake, it has made it all worthwhile. I would really like to thank the community for such generosity, Jerry and Claire Day for delivering the cake and everybody who has supported this cause’. Lynsey met up with Diane Smith (photo above), the wife of Kevin Smith, a key worker at DRI who sadly lost his life due to COVID. Following the death of Kevin, Diane set up a fundraiser which she named #Kev’s wheels to raise money for wheelchairs at the hospital. Lynsey was able to hand over a cheque for £320 towards this great cause from donations she has received. Lynsey is now back to work, baking party cakes, afternoon teas, and anything else you desire in the sweet tooth variety. The Arrow thinks you are amazing Lynsey and wish you all the success in the world. Thank you for taking such good care of our amazing key workers throughout this difficult and challenging time.

Doncaster Pathfinders It was with huge regret that Doncaster Pathfinders Walking club had to cancel their planned walk in April and at the time of writing all future walks are postponed. We are hoping to get out and about soon but in the meantime our members are busy keeping themselves active by doing local walks, working in their gardens and getting on with those DIY jobs that we all put off doing. None of us know when we will be able to meet again as a group but when we do, we will once again be able to enjoy our beautiful countryside. Check out our Facebook page for information about the club or visit our website www.doncasterpathfinders.org.uk. Keep well and stay safe everyone.

Independent Walk Routes around Doncaster A Local walk from Sprotbrough Please take care when walking and follow the Countryside Code. Follow government advice, walk alone or with one member of your household. Obey social distancing rules and give way to other walkers. Only walk locally This walk begins at Sprotbrough Bridge and picks up the Trans Pennine Trail as it heads east with the River Don to your right. Pass under Mill lane and continue passed Sprotbrough Lock then under the A1(M) and viaduct following the river as it snakes to the left. After about 2 miles take sharp left then after 170m climb steps and hear right to rejoin the Trans Pennine Trail. Follow the Trail for 0.8 miles then at a fingerpost turn left and enter the grounds of Cusworth Hall. After about 430m turn left again and take path which runs along the lower edge of the lake. Continue in the general direction for about 0.8miles with Cusworth Hall in the hill behind your, and the roar of the motorway ahead The route takes a short zigzag before going though the underpass exiting on arable farmland. Head towards a couple of overhead pylons and then am isolated barn. Turn left and continue to reach Melton Road. Cross with care and turn tight. After 130m turn left into Melton Gardens. 2/3 the way down Melton Gardens enter the cricket grounds by a rusty gate and head to the far left corner. There is a low concrete stile to cross, then turn left, then right on Main Street, then left again on Boat Lane retuning to Nursery Lane and the finish Aprox 5.6miles 2 ½ hours Courtesy of Doncaster Ramblers For more information about the Doncaster Ramblers and future activity please visit our home page www.doncasterramblers.org.uk/ or follow us on Facebook www.facebook.com/doncasterramblers/ where GPS Maps of many of our past walks can also be found.

School News from Copley Junior School We hope everyone is keeping well. Copley Junior has been open throughout the lockdown for children of key workers and in June we opened to more key worker children in every year group and also to pupils in Year 6. It has been wonderful to welcome so many more children back to school. We miss the children working at home very much and hope we will all be back in school together again very soon. We are very proud of all the children as they have responded brilliantly to our distance learning materials. We have received over 11 000 posts of work, with single posts often being 10 pages of work so we greatly appreciate the effort of the children and the support of parents.
Each week we see a great variety of maths, reading, reading comprehension, spelling, writing and project work across the curriculum linked to the projects we would have been studying in school. Highlights from each year group are shared via our Twitter feed (@CopleyJunior) each week. As an Eco ‘Green Flag’ school, we have been keen to encourage children to appreciate the beautiful local area in which we live. Our recent ’Find a View’ photography challenge saw our young photographers capturing some stunning images from their back gardens and local woods.

Our Andrew Goldsworthy art project saw children creating art pieces out of natural materials. We have seen some very creative entries! We look forward to sharing more school news next month. Best wishes, E.A. Crayton

SPROTBROUGH COMMUNITY LIBRARY All the directors and volunteers at Sprotbrough Community Library hope you are all keeping safe and well during this unprecedented time. We hope you are all reading to pass the time. Please remember us if you have a clear out. The books you donate raise a tremendous amount to support the Library remaining as a service to you all. Many library facilities are still available on line by going to Doncaster Libraries. You can log in with your Library Card Number- if you have forgotten your pin central Library can help you with that.
ARTS and CRAFT EXHIBITION
Joan Bradley has asked you all to keep your wonderful art and craft work that has been shared on the hub so we can have it displayed in the library and have a celebration of it when we are able to do so.
BOOKBOX COMPETITION
We would also like to launch a little competition for any children that would like to take part. Make a shoebox into a bookbox. Decorate the outside of a Shoebox to match a favourite book you have read. Inside the shoebox put wordsearches, crosswords, puzzles, small games all related to the book in some way. Keep hold of these until we ask you to bring them into the library. THREE £10.00 vouchers will be awarded to the makers of the three bookboxes that are chosen as the best three in the competition. All The bookboxes will then be used to loan out with books in the future. Tel: 01302 782436 Sprotbrough Rd., Doncaster, DN5 8BA
