Welcome to the March issue of the Sprotbrough Arrow Spring is in the air and after listening to Boris’s latest statement, I am feeling really positive. This month’s Arrow reminds me of all the reasons I love feeling part of a local community. Although I have focused on the amazing gestures and treats provided by local residents in Sprotbrough, I know such events are happening in all of our villages in so many different ways. Our communities remain stronger than ever and I can’t wait to see the Arrow full of local events and things to look forward to once again. The deadline for the April issue is Wednesday 17th March. The April issue will be distributed the last weekend in March.

Community grants for local good causes - could your group cash in?
Every year Sprotbrough & Cusworth Parish Council awards a number of small grants to local good causes that benefit residents living in the area we serve.
Check out the guidance notes by visiting: www.sprotbroughandcusworthparishcouncil.gov.u k/grants You can either fill in the online form or print the pdf and send the completed version to the parish council office at the Goldsmith Centre, Sprotbrough Road.
"Organisations like the 28th Doncaster St Edmunds Scout Group, who were awarded a grant of £620 towards replacing vital gas bottles and other equipment that was callously stolen by thieves from their meeting hut, said Parish Chair Cllr David Holland. "And more recently we have helped the Don Gorge Community Group with funds to pay their insurance costs. There have been many more examples of how our grants have helped over the years. Don't miss out on an opportunity to boost your fund-raising ready for when things start to get back to something like normal."

We want to shout out loud for our neighbours When you read this We hope you will all know who you are. Baking for us every week. Coffee Cakes. Buns. Scones. Lemon drizzle cake, flap jack the list could go on and on. Our waist line expanded ... but who cares. But then a problem. There was a gap in supply when you had a new kitchen fitted. We lost a few pounds that week. But as soon as you had mastered the complicated controls of your new oven... normal service was resumed Thank you. Thank you for doorstep chats over cake in silver foil. Thankyou for helping us rant and rave and let off steam. Thankyou for being there. We do hope you recognise yourselves . Quietly getting on with it . Helping us getting back into the house after accidental lock outs. Thankyou for advising on all things practical. And just a huge Thankyou for being there for us. We have had neighbours shopping , neighbours on VE Day, neighbours for New Years Eve with socially distanced street fireworks choreographed from more a garden ... And all these accompanied by cake and a glass of something special. We were even treated to a new baby on the street who came along in a pram. We have been lucky. We have had shopping brought from every supermarket and discount store by you all. You have been great. And as we take our jabs and look forward to sunny skies We wanted to thank you all. It’s been a journey gone through Also fit Alarms together. It’s been a road well trodden and it needs a huge
Thankyou 6

School News from Copley Junior School In the first half of the spring term we have seen so much learning from children, both working in school and at home, as we look forward to the time when all children can return to school. We have seen so much fantastic learning – in the last five weeks we have seen over 15 000 posts of work uploaded to our Seesaw app, most of this from just over 50% of our pupils working from home. With all the work undertaken in school also from children with allocated school places, this represents an amazing effort and determination to succeed from all our pupils, so well done to everyone! In Year 3, we have seen fantastic learning from our project on ‘Predators’. Children enjoyed reading the book, 'Lifesize' by Sophy Henn, which provides so many fascinating facts about creatures from around the globe. Pupils were surprised to discover that the giant squid has the largest eyes on the planet. Both in school and at home, pupils were tasked with recreating life size squid eyes. Look at their amazing work! In Year 4, we saw so much fantastic learning about the Romans, with research on many different aspects of Roman life.

In their ‘Time Traveller’ project, Year 5 have been busy learning about changes over time, choosing their focus of interest. Research areas included:
• technology since the 1950s
• the development of board games;
• the history of cars from 1920;
• life in the 1970s; • changes in the food we eat from the 1920s etc.
Year 6 have been learning about life in World War 2, including the timeline of key events; life in the Blitz; evacuation and rationing and designing their own propaganda posters.

Richmond Hill Academy At Richmond Hill we have been continuing to provide in-school teaching and learning to 180 pupils and at home, remote learning to 241 pupils. We are thrilled at the engagement we have in live lessons at 98.9 % which enables children whether at home or school to come together in the virtual classroom. We would like to thank our whole school community for making this a success. We are continuing to work to keep Richmond Hill as safe as possible and this term we have seen the introduction of lateral flow testing for all school staff. Mental Health Awareness Our pupils have been marking children’s mental health awareness week in a variety of ways as the theme this year is ‘Express Yourself’. One of our fabulous reception pupils caught the attention of the Department for Education - who loved his picture so much they too asked to share it. Love is all around us! Love and kindness is in the air in Year 1 and Year 2 and to express this they have been making some fantastic cards and crowns with special messages to give to

Artistic talents Year 2 have completed a two week art unit this term on Still Life. They have blown us away with their thoughtful compositions, sketches and paintings, in the classroom and at home. Our fabulous artists wrote a profile of their artwork to end the unit. We think they are amazing.
To the moon and back As Year 5 continue their stargazers’ topic they have been exploring the moon phases and representing this in very different ways - including a rather tasty version.
