Community News Doncaster Rambler’s Welbeck Wander, Tuesday Walk 6th February.

WARMSWORTH LADIES’ CLUB Come and enjoy our March meetings! 06 Mar 18 An Overview of Tranquillity Spa 13 Mar 18 53rd Annual Dinner 20 Mar 18 Unmentionables ! 27 Mar 18 Sheffield Castle and Manor Lodge

After meeting in the car park at Notwell Garden Centre, (well worth a visit, apart from the massive Garden Centre, there is a lovely café, art gallery and farm shop) 35 of us set off on this lovely winter walk, enhanced by the light peppering of snow petals throughout the day. The walk was a pleasing mixture of fieldside tracks and quiet lanes which enabled us to make good time. We started by walking through the fascinating limestone gorge of Creswell Crags with its prehistoric cave dwellings (The cliffs in the ravine contain several caves that were occupied during the last ice age, between around 43,000 and 10,000 years ago. Its caves contain the northernmost cave art in Europe. The evidence of occupation found in the rich series of sediments that accumulated over many thousands of years is regarded as internationally unique in demonstrating how prehistoric people managed to live at the extreme northernmost limits of their territory during the Late Pleistocene period). After the regulation coffee stop at 11 am (outside a very impressive cemetery, even the dead are posh around here) we resumed our journey along lanes and tracks through rolling farmland towards our lunchtime pub stop in the rather upmarket Greendale Oak in Cuckney. Having emptied our sandwich boxes (and our wallets!) we set off for the short 3 mile journey back to the start alongside the Welbeck Estate with sightings of white deer and black pheasant along the way. What a joy to arrive back relatively free from mud for the first time this year. Thanks Brian, for an ideal seasonal walk and Bob for backmarking. David Billington Coming soon—Doncaster Walking Festival 26th May to 3rd Jane an outdoor extravaganza for all the family For more information about the Doncaster Ramblers and future activity please visit our Home Page http://www.doncasterramblers.org.uk/ Follow us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/doncasterramblers/

Everyone is so very welcome.

We meet at Warmsworth Community Centre, Low Road Tuesdays 7:00-9:00 pm

School News from Copley Junior School Young Voices Concert

Once again, our enthusiastic Year 5 and 6 choir of over 60 children took part in the Young Voices Concert at Sheffield Arena. After months of practising the songs and dances with Mrs Havercroft, the children were very excited to attend the afternoon rehearsal, followed by the concert itself. The whole performance with the dancers and vocalists along with the beat box crew was amazing, not to mention of course the incredible 5200 children in the Young Voices choir. We greatly appreciate that so many parents/carers and relatives were able to come in the evening to enjoy the performance. Well done to all the children for putting in so much effort to learn the songs and dance moves. As usual, the children were an absolute credit to the school with their enthusiasm and excellent behaviour.

Intrepid Arctic Explorers

As part of their project ‘Frozen Kingdom’, our intrepid Year 6 Arctic explorers ventured to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park to meet the polar bears. In the welcome warmth of the school room, Year 6 children took part in interactive workshops to find out more about evolution and the adaptation of species.

Internet Safety Week Well done to the Anti-Bullying Ambassadors!

Our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors led a fantastic assembly and PowerPoint presentation to encourage children to think about online safety. They helped children to consider what information we share online and how children can ensure they are a good friend online. The Anti-Bullying Ambassadors prepared a pupil-friendly e-safety leaflet for all the children to take home, with tops tips about e-safety. Our assembly finished with the message that as long as children use the internet safely it is a fantastic way to learn and have fun.

Internet Safety Magic Show

The Magic Club of Great Britain entertained us with an interactive magic show, which combined great humour, mystifying magic tricks and powerful messages about the dangers of cyber bullying and how to keep safe online. At the end of the show Eugene asked everyone to raise their hand if they knew how to keep safe online! We look forward to sharing more school news next month. Best wishes, E.A. Crayton, Head teacher

Richmond Hill Primary School News Competitions Galore! Our sports teams have had an incredibly busy month with competitions, bringing back some brilliant results! First up were the Y5/Y6 Boys’ Football Team, who took part in the Doncaster Rovers English League Football Tournament. After an intense penalty shootout, our team came 3rd! A fantastic result once again for our football competitions, and an excellent start to the term’s competitions Our second competition of the term saw our Y5/Y6 Athletics team demonstrate “amazing” running, jumping and throwing skills, coming 4th at their competition! The team also received positive recognition for their good behaviour and team spirit. The month also saw the return of our Key Stage 2 Cheerleading team, who came in joint 5th at the Doncaster Finals! The team, who have shown an amazing amount of dedication by practicing over lunchtime, were also lucky enough to take part in a workshop organised by Campsmount Academy! Thank you to everyone involved in the organisation and running of the workshop, which the team thoroughly enjoyed!

Year 2 Strike Gold! Year 2 had a very interesting morning recently, when they found a mysterious footprint in one of their classrooms! Along with the footprint, they find clues and a treasure map… which showed that there was something to be found in our school! They searched all over the school for the owner of the footprint and found that it was one of the Key Stage 2 teachers, who had been stashing Year 2’s treasure in his classroom. After a lot of intense detective work, pupils discovered their prize… copies of their next class book, Treasure Island! Thank you to Year 2 for putting on such an intriguing launch!

This cute little boy is Bruno, a 9 year old Jack Russell Terrier cross. Bruno is a really sweet, affectionate little dog who loves his walks and likes to play. He is a bit scared of larger dogs, but could possibly live with a dog his size or smaller. He is not good with cats and would be great in an older home with no small children. Bruno is neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped. If you would like to come and meet this smashing boy, please give Isle Rescue a call on 01427 728705.
