Welcome to the October

Issue of the The nights are starting to close in as we prepare for Autumn and once again, we benefit from the glorious colours this time of year brings. I love walking Digger (our Border Terrier) at Cusworth Hall and admiring the changes. Thinking about Autumn, we have ideas on how to spend Halloween and Bonfire night in this month’s issue. Doncaster Race Course with Hallam FM, have their Fireworks Spectacular the weekend before Guy Fawkes and Boston Park Farm have some scary events planned to celebrate Halloween at the end of the month coinciding with October half term. I hope you enjoy reading all about our young people and what they have been up to in school. Thank you to the local primary schools who submit articles each month. Last but not least, well done to last month’s Doncaster Racecourse St Leger Winners who won County Enclosure tickets for opening day, Jonathon Hall from Haxey and Joe Williams from Auckley. I hope you had a lucky day! The deadline for the November issue is Wednesday 15th October. The November Arrow will be delivered by the last weekend in October.

Best Wishes

Community News Caroline Flint has congratulated Warmsworth Cricket Club on their latest good fortune. The MP met the Club officers to view plans to refurbish the recently extended club house after a £51,340 grant from landfill operators FCC. The grant was handed to the Club by Penny Beaumont, WREN Grant Manager for Yorkshire & Humber, which administers landfill grant funding to local groups. Said Caroline: “Mick, Malcolm, Richard and the Club volunteers deserve huge praise for the progress they have made and for securing this valuable grant. The plans are very exciting and I am sure it will lead to the Club growing further.” The Don Valley MP had backed the original bid from Sport England which provided £50,000 from its Olympic Legacy fund to allow the club to build a new roof and extension. The new refurbishment work is likely to be completed by the New Year. PHOTO SHOWS l to r Penny Beaumont, WREN Grant Manager for Yorkshire, Mick Wolsey, Chair, Richard Nettleton Secretary, Malcolm Sharp, Vice President, and Caroline Flint viewing the new plans.

School News from

Copley Junior School

New School Year – New Uniform! It was lovely to welcome the children back to school in September looking so smart in their new school uniform. Thank you to parents/ carers and children for your support!

Well done to Jack

We are always proud to hear when our pupils demonstrate thoughtfulness and initiative. Jack decided to challenge himself to swim as many lengths as he could in one hour in order to raise money for Cancer Research and Don Valley Swim Club. Jack swam an amazing 126 lengths in one hour (1.43 miles) and so far has raised over £620 for two very worthwhile causes!

Off With Her Head!

At the start of term, all classes have been out of school on educational visits to launch their new Imaginative Learning Projects. Please find below a short article from Class 5L.

“On Tuesday 9th September, Year Five went to Gainsborough Old Hall to learn about the Tudors. Whilst we were there, we dressed up like Tudor characters such as Henry VIII, Catherine Howard, Jesters and Musicians. We saw bedrooms, the kitchen and The Great Hall. Catherine Howard and Henry VIII once stayed at Gainsborough Old Hall. Back in Tudor times, they didn’t eat potatoes and so instead they had to have lots of bread and butter! We had the best day ever!” From Class 5L

Extra Curricular Activities

We offer many extra curricular activities at Copley Junior School. They enhance the school curriculum and children always enjoy these additional opportunities. Clubs during the Autumn Keeping fit at Boxercise term include Football, Boxercise/Fit and Fun Club, Multi Skills, Choir, Gym, Archery, Aromatherapy, Art and we are offering a new Spanish Club and Mandarin Club also. Pamper time! Members of the Aromatherapy Club with pots of the‘After 8’ Chocolate Mint Scrub made at their club session, under the guidance of our qualified aromatherapist. We look forward to sharing more of our school news with the local community next month. Best wishes, E.A. Crayton Head teacher
