Hello Sprotbrough and Cusworth! For many years we have been asked to cover Cusworth and for many reasons, we were unable to, however, we have a solution… The Arrow will now alternate between Cusworth and Warmsworth bi monthly. Therefore, Cusworth residents will receive the November issue of the Arrow, followed by the January issue and so on. Warmsworth residents will receive the magazine in October and December. Sprotbrough residents will continue to receive the Arrow monthly. If Cusworth residents would like to include information on community groups etc, please email me the details and I will publish them in the November issue. Life is slowly moving towards a new normal. The wearing of masks has created a whole new stress before we leave home! Keys check Purse/wallet check Mask??? Where’s my mask? I’m sure you will agree, it’s a small price to pay to help work, life and play continue. It’s good to see community centres, gyms, libraries and other leisure facilities, opening again. Lets hope and pray that science produces a vaccine very soon and schools open as planned in September. The deadline for the October issue is Wednesday 16th September. The October issue will be distributed the weekend commencing 25th September to Sprotbrough and Warmsworth. Keep safe everyone. Community News

Monthly Parish Council meetings resume

After a five months absence due to Coronavirus restrictions, monthly meetings of Sprotbrough & Cusworth Council have resumed and a schedule of future meetings through to May 2021 has been published on www.sc-pc.co.uk. Local playgrounds - including the new Anchorage Lane site - have re-opened, as has the outdoor gym. Guidance for their use during the pandemic can also be read on the website. Councillor David Holland, Chair of the Parish Council, said; "It's important to try and get back to normal business as best we can, working within the Government guidelines, We are a busy parish council, one of the biggest in Doncaster, and we want to press ahead with new ideas and improvements for Sprotbrough and Cusworth residents. "Our meetings will be held in public at 7pm on the third Thursday of the month at the Goldsmith Centre, Sprotbrough Road, with the exception of March 2021 when we will meet at Scawsby Community Centre. "Social distancing arrangements will be in place for everyone attending and current Government advice is that face coverings must be worn. I encourage local people to come along and find out what your parish councillors are doing on your behalf and to put questions to us. You can also keep in touch via our website and Facebook/Twitter pages."

School News from Copley Junior School

We are keen to promote a love of reading at Copley and during the summer term we were delighted to see so many of our children enjoying their reading. With our theme of ‘Curl Up with a Good Book’ we saw many great photos of the children getting comfortable with a good book. We also saw some photos of children reading in slightly more unusual surroundings Well done to all the children who enjoyed their reading and achieved our Ten Hour Reading Challenge. At the end of term we presented many certificates and small prizes to celebrate the children’s achievement. Children and staff at Copley chose their favourite children’s book to review and we have posted these on the website so that there are lots of recommendations for good books to read.

We love buying new books at Copley and our latest collection of ‘Award Winner’ titles was chosen in order to extend children’s reading with titles that have won awards e.g. Carnegie Children’s Medal, Waterstone’s Children’s Book Prize etc. We look forward to welcoming all children back to school and sharing more school news next month. Best wishes, E.A. Crayton Head teacher

Doncaster Rambler’s Tickhill Inner Circle This is the first walk for several months as we, at least temporarily, ease out of lockdown. When groups of six were allowed to walk a short, local walks programme was developed, with almost 30 walks arranged, taking us into October. Today, a bright and blustery day saw five of us meeting at The Buttercross in Tickhill. We walked along Westgate, around Mill Pond and into Water Lane until we crossed the footbridge over the stream at the far end of Castle Fields. Turning immediately right, and after admiring the kissing gate installed by Ramblers a few years ago (see photo on the left of it being installed - this is a coincidence!) which replaced a very unsafe stile, we crossed a field which the farmer never reinstates after ploughing. Crossing a stile we followed a high hedge around to another stile and then forward towards some farm buildings and thence to the footpath alongside the A1(M) to reach Sunderland Street, one of the two routes across the wet land that existed from about 500AD until it was drained by Thomas Tofield in the late 17th century. We passed under the motorway bridge and turned immediately left along Paper Mill Lane for 200 metres before turning right onto a footpath by the tallest signpost in the area. We followed this path, which took us to the River Torne, which we crossed, posing for the obligatory photo on the bridge. We then followed the Torne on the right bank until we reached Sheepwash Lane. After a short discussion we all agreed to extend the walk, increasing it from the original 4.75 miles to 5.5 miles, by contining to follow the Torne in a big arc on Tickhill Low Common and back onto Sheepwash Lane. This took us onto Common Lane, over, rather than under, the A1(M) and back to The Buttercross. DANUM PROBUS CLUB danum probus.co.uk Danum Probus Club is an organisation for men who have retired or are semi-retired from their profession, business or other employment who want to maintain a social network with others who have similar interests. Because of the Covid19 lockdown we are not able to meet at present. In normal times Danum Probus Club meets on the first and third Mondays of the month at Town Moor Golf Club, Bawtry Road, Belle Vue, Doncaster starting at 10 am. At this meeting we have a speaker whose subjects cover a wide variety of interests, the programme can be found on our website, www.danumprobus.co.uk. Ladies and guests are invited to the Club’s Spring and Autumn Lunches and also to the annual holiday which is usually in early June or thereabouts. Members also have their own lunches in mid summer and December. In the summer months the Crown Green Bowling Section play on the Armthorpe Community Centre greens. The starting date for regular meeting has been moved back to Monday 5 October, so the two meetings scheduled for September have been cancelled. The current restriction on the number of people who may use the golf club meeting room at the same time means that it is too small for our events, even if fewer than the usual number of members attend. The committee is looking at the viability of using an alternative venue on a temporary basis if the restrictions on the golf club are not eased in the coming months. The Annual Autumn Ladies and Guests Lunch at Ye Olde Bell scheduled for 22 October will now not take place. It may be moved to a date before Christmas if circumstances allow. Crown Green Bowling has begun on a restricted basis at Armthorpe. When we restart, we invite any men who would like to come to these meetings as a visitor to see what we do, with a view to joining if you like us, to call either Des Parks (01302 856188), George Kirk (07808191211) or Geoff Firth (01302 849734) for more information or come to a meeting and introduce yourself to the President or Secretary at the front table. Information on when we will restart will be published in this magazine and also on the website (danumprobus.co.uk).
