Welcome to the September

Issue of the Congratulations to our two lucky winners from last month’s St Ledger competition; Sarah Henley from Hatfield and Janine Palin from Scunthorpe. I hope you have a fantastic day and continue with your lucky streak! I am taking part in the Great North Run on Sunday 7th September with my running partner, Dave Chorlton. I am running for Cancer Research and if you would like to support my charity, you can make a donation by texting MIMI98 and the amount you would like to donate to 70070. Thank you, I will let you know if we made it next month! The deadline for the October issue for advertising and articles is Wednesday 17th September. The October Arrow will be delivered by the last weekend in September.

Best Wishes

The Soroptimists in Doncaster are a group of women who work to raise funds and provide service for organisations such as, Riding for the disabled, The Yorkshire Air Ambulance and others. An example of this can be seen in the photo where Eve Dickenson, the President of the Doncaster Soroptimist Group, is shown having an enjoyable time working with children at Toll Bar School to prepare backpacks of school items for children overseas.

Mrs Eardley retires from Richmond Hill After thirteen years of working at Richmond Hill Primary Academy, Mrs Eardley retired and said goodbye in a special assembly. Year 6 pupils greeted her with a stationery salute with their rulers. They all wished her the very best for her retirement!

Sports Day

After one false start due to the weather, pupils from Richmond Hill were up and running.

School News from

Copley Junior School Year 6 Residential Visit to Northumberland

At Copley Junior, all our learning projects start with either a visit out of school or a visitor comes into school to engage the children in their new project and to capture their enthusiasm. Before the end of the Summer term our Year 6 children had a wonderful four days in Northumberland on a residential visit packed with learning experiences. Highlights included Vindolanda (a Roman auxiliary fort (castrum) just south of Hadrian's Wall), the Grace Darling Museum, Lindisfarne Priory and Castle, Dunstanburgh Castle, a boat trip to the Farne Islands and a visit to Beamish Museum before the journey home. Evening activities took place at the beach with many opportunities for paddling, building sandcastles, rock pooling and cricket on the beach.

The journey to the Farne Islands enabled the children to get close to the wildlife.

Children were well prepared to enjoy sliding down the sand dunes, with goggles to stop the sand getting in their eyes!

The Year 6 group of 2014 Our Year 6 group have been a pleasure to teach this year and they were a great group to take on the residential visit. The teachers, school staff and parents who accompanied the visit all commented on the children’s enthusiasm, their willingness to take part in every activity and the way the children encouraged and supported each other. Well done to our Year 6 pupils! Although we will miss Year 6, we know they are ready to make the most of the next phase of their education in September and we wish them every success at secondary school. We look forward to sharing more school news next month. Best wishes E.A. Crayton Head teacher
