“Vashon through a Lens” at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis
Letter from the President and CEO Greetings, friends! One of the things I love most about the Arts and Education Council is how varied our involvement with the arts community is. From funding a wide variety of organizations and programs to nurturing the next generation of arts leaders to shining a spotlight on the incredible people and organizations who make this region so vibrant, our reach at the Arts and Education Council is broad. This issue of Happenings is dedicated to the variety of ways your donation to the Arts and Education Council keeps art happening in our region. You’ll learn about a remarkable partnership between the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis (an Arts and Education Council grantee) and Vashon High School (p. 3) and how your donations are promoting a more vibrant community (p. 4-5). Plus, we catch up with our first three Katherine Dunham Fellows as they each start their careers (p. 6) and share the news of who we will be honoring at the 2020 St. Louis Arts Awards in January (p. 7). We also take a moment to remember Glenn Sheffield, an inspiring leader and former Arts and Education Council board chair who passed away May 2. Glenn was an amazing woman and an incredible mentor of mine who I will miss greatly. Thank you for all you do to support and enjoy the arts in our region. Together, we keep art happening. Sincerely,

Catalyst Conversations wraps first season
T
his May concluded the inaugural season of Catalyst Conversations. Mike Isaacson, artistic director and executive producer at The Muny,
was joined by host Nicole Hudson for a conversation about all things producing, The Muny and theatre. Isaacson and Hudson talked about his experiences at The Muny, how he got involved in the arts and the early experiences that shaped him as an artist. They talked about how we all need stories and how they help us understand ourselves. Isaacson especially noted how there is a communal experience. “It’s never a solo experience at the theatre,” he said. Catalyst Conversations will return to the Arts and Education Council’s Catalyst Innovation Lab this fall. Media support for the 2018-2019 season
of Catalyst Conversations is provided by St. Louis Public Radio. For more information, visit KeepArtHappening.org/Conversations.
