Papachristou Artemis is an architect, always questioning the understanding of architecture. Her studies in the stimulating environment of the Architecture Department of the University of Thessaly had shaped her interdisciplinary approach on architecture. Among some of the main fields that architecture touches [art, technical studies, anthropology, sociology] she has research interest in curatorial practices [archives, taxonomies, art theory, critical thinking and aesthetics] and in philosophical approaches of architecture on the performativity of the everyday life, focusing on the inhabitation patterns of the contemporary digital nomads, while being one. She is also interested in experimentations through the mechanism of space [with new technologies and materialism] that question how we live, perceive and inhabit a space today.

PUBLIC SQUARE IN THE CITY OF KAVALA,GREECE
[Architecture Design Studio IV professor-supervisor : Triantafyllidis Yorgos] [in collaboration with: Kafadari Aimilia] 2013 Our initial goal in the formation of the square was to maintain the natural slope . So in our effort to to be consistent with the height differences we created guiding paths consisting of ramps that lead to service areas. The square is like a single folding surface resembling a natural environment but differs from it because materials such as concrete and copper are used. We also created an additional exhibition space that gradually penetrates the territory and divides the square in two different places at the same time allowing the connection between the two . So we have two major open spaces and terraces that can accommodate different uses . Finally, we intervened in both existing buildings transforming them into places that will host workshops and exhibitions.

This project is a result of experimentations on the Japanese foldable patterns such as Yoshimura and Miura patterns.(from paper models to 3d models in Rigid Origami and Rhino). The main idea was to create a form that can be used as a shelter (in the countryside/mountain etc.) The end of the structure is for other use such as seating, playing and climbing. The structure is made of lightweight concrete in order to emphasize the pleated form. see

MoEU [ Museum of/for Everyday Use ] [ diploma project professor-supervisor: Antonas Aristides] http://curating-the-normal.tumblr.com 2016
We live in a time when the concept of inhabitation is reconsidered. This place is a platform of rethinking P.Bourdieu’s term “habitus”. All the needs of everyday life (sleep, eating, showering etc) are approached through the mechanism of art. [Inhabit without the “habit”] Architectural design -and every curatorial gesture-are directive, but we should admit that it is only an illusion of control. Here, this happens in an extreme way. All the household is organized, presented and named differently as if it was a work of art in a museum. Each room is designed with the mechanism of art and it gives an ambiguous and different experience than the usual and creates an uncanny feeling on the normal way of living. For this reason, some technological devices are used to perform and analyze each action. At the same time, each space is created in a way that every function becomes an exhibit. It is a museum where the visitor becomes a user and at the same time an exhibit himself. A place where the distinct animality of the human being is under observation like a science experiment. In this way the project is an ironic reference to the way we overshare our lives through social networks. It is an alive archive of inhabitation and of the performativity of everyday life.

CURATING THE NORMAL [ thesis_research project professor supervisor: Antonas Aristide] 2015
see full text here : http://issuu.com/artemispapachristou/docs/_____________________ _______________543bbf1eab32f8 The title CURATING THE NORMAL has a double meaning. Borrowed from the field of art, the word curate, here, is initially a form of selection, organisation, analysis and presentation of examples under a common scope: the cause of unusual spatial experiences. Furthermore, the expression Curating the normal reveals the mechanism of art itself ,which is the defamiliarisation of the usual(the normal, the everyday). Thus, in this thesis these examples are presented and analysed : -examples of the filed of art that are spatial and cause interesting experiences (art installations) -spaces that are used for practical purposes but have unusual characteristics that make the stay in them strange and different -everyday spaces which do not have unusual spatial characteristics but their analysis from a distant view constructs a new narrative, difamiliarises them and gives them a new interpretation.

THEATRICAL SCENERY FOR THE THEATRICAL PLAY “THE GOOD PERSON OF SZECHWAN” /BERTOLT BRECHT [Scenography Studio professor-supervisor : Manidaki Eva] 2013
The play refers to a young prostitute, Shen Te, as she struggles to lead a life that is “good” (according to the terms of the morality that is taught by the gods and to which her fellow citizens of Szechwan pay lip service to), without allowing herself to be abused and trod upon by those who would accept and, more often than not, abuse her goodness. Τhe challenge that became the core of the proposal was the question of how the intermezzo during the play can become space. The intermezzo is then treated like an intermission in a space. The play takes place in a container that is buried in the ground. The spectators experience the intermezzo through different qualities of space(such as the gap, the abrupt temperature change, an obstacle etc.) Finally, the view of the play is achieved through the small slots on the top of the container, making the spectators feeling like “peepers” and completing this experiential sense of the play.

l lll ECHO ROOM ACOUSTIC INSTALLATION [Acoustic Design Studio professor-supervisor: Remy Nicolas] 2013 It is a temporary construction for the production of utopian soundscapes. The folded shape is justified for better acoustics in the interior. Its ‘paradox’ morphology - as regards to the grid of the city- invites the user to a cavernous interior. In order to emphasize this cavernous characteristic, the entrance to the construction is through low entrances where the user enters by bending. In each entrance a microphone is given to each user who is asked to record his voice. The content of the recording is reproduced after some seconds, with a filter(depending on the entrance that was recorded) from the speakers that are situated in the centre of the installation,on its ceiling. These filters are different in each entrance and they are the following: echo, high speed, low speed, reversed. The only source of light that enters the interior is the one from the entrances, so that the environment in the installation is as dark as possible contributing to the utopian sound environment which is created during its use.

INTERVENTION IN THE PORT OF THESSALONIKI/REDEFINING THE WATERFRONT [Urban Planning lll professor-supervisor : Koutrolikou Penny] 2013
This proposal for intervention recommends the utilization of the obsolete urban site of Thessaloniki Port. Some of the existing storage spaces are connected to contemporary additions. A cultural approach to the area is suggested as a continuation of the cultural content of the first pier (where there is a museum of photography, a museum of cinematography etc.) but with the opportunity for active participation by the public. Therefore, the reuse of the warehouses and the content of the new buidings relate to art (workshop areas where the citizens can participate, exhibition areas etc.) and also areas for a common working environment. These last areas are “neutral spaces where someone can stay temporarily to work in a common environment with other professionals. In this way communication and interaction is created among different professions.

COLLECTIVE CELLS INSTALLATION
[ elective design studio_the cell and the rule professor-supervisor: Antonas Aristide ] 2014
This is an installation placed in the centre of the city. It is a metallic structure with moveable fabric that covers the three parts of each cube. The movement is achieved only with two persons because of the size of the structure. Each piece of the fabric is connected to the other and is drawn on the metal frame. The “ceiling” of the one cube is the “bed” of the user of the upper cube. Thus, each user is isolated only when the next one comes in the installation.
This project was designed after reading the following texts : -Less is enough_on Architecture and Asceticism_Pier Vittorio Aureli -The Highest Poverty_ Giorgio Agamben
The only condition for isolation is coexistence.
the reference of camping in tents in an urban environment :

‘SHOW ME YOUR STUFF ‘ INSTALLATION [ elective design studio_the cell and the rule professor-supervisor:Antonas Aristides ] 2014
This installation is placed in the countryside or in a park in the city centre. It is a space that can be used by the contemporary nomads that carry their laptops and want to isolate themselves to work but away from home. This feeling of isolation is emphasised by the burying of the unit but is cancelled by the total exposure of the user. The user must agree to a rule (like the “sharing rule” of the communal monastic life)of personal exposure. They have to choose between two ways of exposing themselves: 1 ) n a t u r a l exposure(unit with the transparent ceiling) 2 ) d i g i t a l exposure(unit with a screen on the ceiling that shows the content of the user’s laptop. the common life of the cenobium can only be experienced through the sharing of a rule.

[ the base of the 3d file was made by the D.F.A team for that project : Alegria Rita,Lopez Flores Juan Jose, Papachristou Artemis,Uszinsky Isabelle] 2014
This project originally began in the DFA office with a competition for a metro station in the centre of Paris.[Gare Maison Blanche ] in the context of the big project “Grand Paris that concerns the new extention of the metro of Paris. This station is on Line 14 and the new part is from Olympiades to Orly. This installation is my personal response to the competition request. The use of the fabric creates a theatrical result, while the transparency on the floor gives a view of the second layer of the city, the underground one.

Snapshoting the process of work while working.
As Walter Benjamin has put it,this term has the meaning of an active stop of a process. It
is the need of pausing to rethink a condition in life and act on it. In a way, that you actually need to create something [ from everyday life ] to maintain it [into life] through time . The process of these snapshots was this kind of act [ stop working— pause and take a
snapshot in order to think, remember, share..]. The composition is decomposed and the abstracts of the whole work are now separate elements that can stand by themselves. A new solid image is created now and it has obtained its own narrative, meaning and own autonomy.

This project concerns some rooms buried inside the ground at key points of the site. The entrances are on the existing paths of the site where the regular route is interrupted and a new one leads to the level of -4 m, at a new meeting point. These structures combine the traditional sustainable method of burying and the contemporary high technology of sustainability. The infrastructure is well maintained and therefore the preservation of the area can be achieved with minimum intervention which at the same time changes the landscape.A multi-level continuous surface made from a strong durable fabric, adjusted on different levels of the existing buildings and on the slope of the mountain, creates a new condition and a link between them. Our initial intention was to combine the concept of symbiosis with the process of cultivation - production. Thus, we chose the square unit as fractal ( repetition and variation) leaving large areas for agriculture. One of our goals was to create outdoor spaces of coexistance and interaction. The users are not only residents of the units but also of the wider area of the city so that they can work, produce and consume together. All the vertical “cores” are connected by a single-height horizontal public movement (‘public snake”) intended as public urban living space and as a secondary cultivation space. Thus, the movement of people on the big commercial street is transferred to a second, upper l a y e r . The project is placed in the centre of Volos city around the commercial street of Ermou.

The purpose of this workshop was the design and the construction of sound generators with the power of the water or the wind, in 1:1 scale. We had to experiment with materials and produce an object that has a dialectic relationship with the natural landscape. The final result of the team I was part of, was a construction with a metallic frame and some plastic tubes. The inside of each tube is covered with a different material(wood, metal etc.) and each tube contains a metal stick with a floater. The waves move the sticks that hit each surface and thus they produce a sound. A new soundscape is added to the existing sound of the waves and indicates the rhythm of the sea.

CECI N’EST PAS UN LIVRE A MECHANISM OF READING [ Landscape Theory professor-supervisor: Antonas Aristide ] 2013
“This
is
not
a
book”.
This object is a mechanism of reading for some excerpts that refer to Landscape. It is a wandering in a text landscape, where the flipping of the pages in a usual book is replaced by the movement of the transparent layers. It is also a reference to the mechanism of landscape itself: The landscape is something autonomous but at the same time is a part of nature,a part of the “whole”. Here, every “book” is a separate object but at the same time is a connection to each booksource of the fragments. In some layers there are frames that emphasize some fragments of the bigger text behind. Thus, as in a landscape you see the fragment of the fragment.

The fragments are from the books: -The Philosophy of the Landscape_Georg Simmel -Concept of nature_ Alfred North Whitehead -Sense and Sensibility_Jane Austen -Space and Time_Yi-Fu Tuan -Wuthering Heights_Emily BrontĂŤ -The Landscape_Joanchim Ritter

The description of the Library competitions: “Call for Illustrations” is a contest that aims to focus attention on a graphic research thoughts reflections and themes that emerged from each of the six “conversations” promoted by “Oltre il giardino”. Each participant is invited to draw an illustration designed to represent a graphically thought, a reflection originated from every conversation. These illustrations should not be connoted by the marks of common architectural elaborate, but must have a deep graphic research that aims to investigate the limits of the classical representation on the ridge of the architectural discipline. We imagine these illustrations not as the architectural representation of a project, but as an architectural reflection, or more generally of an urban thought. At the end of that period, the call will be closed. The best works related on the theme and will be published on the facebook page (www.facebook.com/
libraryillustrazioni). Three projects will be the illustrations for each call (one by the teachers of the G6, one and one by the positive feedba total of 18 winning images for series of conversations.
The theme of this competition: “...the idea of the projects an open narrative, which incorporates and brings contr elements within it. To quote Aristoteles, “syst pragmaton”: the project is a co of di erent actions. Architect is plural and collective where agents are involved: the client, the technical specialist who c materials, calculates, etc.

WIP Since the time they arrived on earth, humans have in their nature the need to organise the chaos of the world in order to understand it, think, inhabit and more important to survive. Architecture and every curatorial gesture are directive, but we should admit that it is an illusion of control. Every project in an ongoing one, even if its designer decided to stop working on it. In this image all the stages of the life of a building, from the design to its decay are presented as a palimpsest. All the probable scenarios of the design of a typical habitation unit, are presented on layers one above the other, while the future of it, through the inhabitation of other visitors and its decay are also obvious.

IMAGES FOR BONK! MAGAZINE Submissions for Bonk! magazine issue #3 Lines 2016 [ http://bonkmagazine.tumblr.com ] [ https://www.facebook.com/ bonkmagazine/ ] These were my responses the theme “Lines of the magazine. Thinking on the general concept of line [a line is for separation,it creates a limit and indicates two different parts]. I created a decomposition of the world map based not only on the geographical [natural] separation that indicates the parts of the land and sea, but also the political separation which is the indication of the countries. This gesture mocks one of the most arbitrary and unjustifiable decisions in human history: the creation of an illusive mechanism of control using fictional lines[aka borders], the creation of different nations. The image was created with the same arbitrariness : each piece was placed deliberately random . It also acts as a comment to the paradoxical situation we live nowadays: the crossing of the borders with the use of the Internet and the simultaneous closing of them physically.
World Soup most of the material that I used to create this image was taken from this open-free file: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:World_map_-_low_resolution.svg#metadata

POSTERS AND OTHER LINES
As we know, every work of art has a different interpretation by each person. The work of art as a mirror to the observer: The observer finds some parts of himself in the piece . The process of understanding the work of art, as a deforming mirror: After his conclusions another version of the piece is created. His interpretation conceptually creates another “work of art” , similar to the source, but diverse (or “distorted”). The line in the centre works as this kind of a mirror. The same phrase is “mirrored” on the left side, but in a distorted way (which makes a new interpretation).

NoTours offers an augmented aurality experience. It is a project by the collective Escoitar that allows editing a place with sounds. In other words, you can add a new layer of reality to your place. You can leave messages, tell stories, create geolocated concerts or just share your thoughts. The noTours Android Application detects your location (via GPS) and plays your audios exactly in the place where you decided. In this workshop the team created a soundwalk in the centre of Volos. It is an acoustic gymnastic programme. Except for the acoustic experience, the project inserts the movement,so the process is converted to an interactive one.The general background sound consists of nature sounds to emphasize the oddity of the sport activity within the urban environment.

International design competition: ‘Amphibious Habitats’

The Brief: ‘Amphibious Habitats’ calls for designs that challenge the very distinction between land and sea, looking to generate architectural ‘artefacts’ that act on this threshold—neither purely marine nor land, but instead both at the same time. The proposals should establish innovative ways to understand and appropriate the often undefined and always changing space between these two natures. Although Malaga will act as the ideal cultural frame for the competition, designs should be freely imagined as objects of reverie which might take cue and inspiration from sources distant in time and space. Proposals must respond to topographic conditions, whether real or imagined: rocky cliffs, sandy beaches, volcanic tide pools, coral reefs, Icelandic or equatorial shorelines, imposing sea banks; the list could go on. We are looking for architectures that find their raison d’être on these boundaries between dry and wet. These objects will engage its users in original and unexpected ways, questioning our relationship with water and at the same time promoting new ways to understand the land-sea binomial.

MANIFESTO
Ataxifolia No ecosystem should ever perish due to the greed of a single species. Dr Chloe Malevic, IPCC Report 2011 ____________________ “[...] After the Caulerpa stems enter through the Ataxi - stomata, the cascading generation of alimentary effect and functional capture continues across the gaps between bodily strata. When it reaches the epithilia cores, the whole series repotentializes. The Epithilia’s osmotic function serves as a hinge between the internal stratifications contained by the infra-skin and the wider systems of capture into which the overal organism as a whole is in turn integrated. What Influenced greatly the research behind this eco-systemic mediator, is the idea that in order to restore any overrun dynamic system, a multilayered procedure is needed to take place. [...]This evolving architectural agent, does not intrude an ecosystem, it is rather a nomadic ecosystem on its own, acting as a vanishing mediator in an existing invasion, through multilayered ltering. Thus establishing a state of being which successfully relays with other autonomies, from the macroscopic to the microscopic and vice versa.” Invasive Species Restriction Protocols and Control Mechanism Prototypes. Caulerpa Taxifolia Infestation Research, Second Assesment Report, Abstract-- Geneva, 26 September 2047 ______________________ No ecosystem should ever perish due to the greed of a single species! (Chloe Malevic the First) ______________________ As St Blaise is our Patron, the Mangrove is our Mentor. We, the Ataxifolians have created a habitable meta-organism to exterminate the vile Caulerpa Taxifolia, an agent of the evident end of times. The mechanism borrows from the internal structure and logic of mangrove ecosystems, that create an amphibious, semi-submerged forest. Their delicate nature, lying on top of sea water, their roots loosely bound in sandy murk, together with their function as biodiversity hotspots, provide us with the relational substrate on which to land our Order. (Brother Asmotheus Grant, Nice, 26 January 2104) ______________________ The water is our asylum. We travel through the liquid eternity. Our Order has done well. Not a single Caulerpa stem remains within the coasts of the Mediterranian. However the structures remain, wandering islands, eerily creeping around in the shallows. Unrest keeps on growing Form has outlived function. (AntiPope Asmotheus II, Kalamata, 05 March 2232) ______________________ No ecosystem should ever perish due to the greed of a single species... VIEWMASTER EXHIBITION [parallel program at the Athens International Short Film Festival Psarokokalo ] at Kastella art Centre Curator : Paris Chaviaras Organiser - Coordinator of the space: Soultana Tatiana Koumoutsi Athens [June 2018]
This is not a work of art on cinema. However, it works in the same way that cinema can work: as a mechanism of escape from reality. This is a digital reconstruction of the image of a place that acted as a space for isolation and escape from a mandatory stay in the summer of 2017. The empty pieces that “healed gradually and filled in with ink are the daily recordings of the stay there (one layer per day). It was printed on the fabric that was used for the construction of the shelter (a tipi- the third of a series) below the illustrated rocks. [GIF]

A ROOM OF MY OWN pensée du dehors]
[La --What

A room of one’s own is a place where one meets (and re-assembles) themselves, and forms their thoughts. Its spatial characteristics are irrelevant. [ After moving back in my parents’ apartment, I did not have my own private and silent room. I was spending most of the day in the woods doing my own things -working, reading, writing, sketching etc. That was where I found silence, concentration and peace. The woods were more a home to me than the room I slept in at night. The forest was the room of my own. ] Text references: -La pensée du dehors_ Michel Foucault -Η ετεροτοπία της καλύβας_ Αποστόλης Αρτινός

CONTEMPORARY HERITAGE EXHIBITION
ART
Organised by the Master Programme “Cultural Heritage Management” of the University of Kent, and the Athens University of Economics and Business at Booze Cooperativa Athens [September 2017] Each work constitutes an autonomous contemporality. The composition between them was made based on their thematic and aesthetic relations. The composition in the empty elevator [ “ceci n’ est pas toi”, “the empty book full of irony”, “this space intentionally left empty “] is made up of self-contradicting and ironic phrases that use the language and the mechanisms of typography. The phrase on the mirror acts as a comment-reminder to the contemporary individual that lives with a second artificial identity , the social media one. The “Two Original Homes” is made up of two excerpts from books [ “On the road”_J. Kerouac and “Walden”_H.D.Thoreau]. Although these books contradict each other (the former through the constant moving and the latter through a long withdrawal in nature), they put forward an eternal question of the homeless (ανέστιος) man : What is home? The “Border Disorder” acts as a comment on what can be the arbitrary human creation that is called “borders” between two countries. Two rows of curtains placed on this limit , with a gap of
some meters between them, create an atopic environment for meeting, coexistence, disorder and non-identity. The fragment of the work “Mo/ fEU” act as a comment to the way we
overshare our mundane everyday practices through social networks.

It reflects the existent situation of empty stores as a result of the economic crisis. Using t he same concept of the typographic phrase “This page intentionally left blank.”, I printed some stickers with the spatial version of it and posted them on the shop windows of some empty stores around the city. [Thessaloniki, Athens, Serres and other cities] The phrase “This space intentionally left empty.” while stating the emptiness, indicates the political and economic decisions that were made in the past few years in Greece.

CABINET DE CURIOSITÉS l : NYC [ Mixed Media: found objects, vacuum (airtight) travel bags ]
This is a project that consists of objets trouvĂŠs : objects found in the subway of New York City.
patent no : B65D33/2591
The mechanism of compressing and freezing using the vacuum travel bags (compressed storage for saving space) comes as a contradiction to the speed -best shown in the subway- of the city that never sleeps. It indicates the everyday common traveling of the citizens with the metro but also the ephemeral, nomadic kind of stay of each of the passenger [since NYC acts as a platform of usually temporary stay (appr. max. 5 years)]. It also acts as a comment to one the biggest problems of a contemporary Metropolis: the lack of space. Finally, it acts as the necessary stop,a symbolic relief. It gives a monumental home to the fragments of this ephemeral everyday coexistence in this other layer of the city, the heterotopia and the most democratic public place of it : the subway.
