inings Gallery is pleased to feature the work of Atlanta-based artist Simon Kenevan during a one-man show over the weekend of April 21, 2018. After leaving school in 1982, Simon joined the crew of an English fishing boat, reaffirming his lifelong relationship with the sea. When he had managed to save enough money, he bought a 14’ rowing boat, fulfilling his ambition to work alone and become one with the natural environment. Now, with more than 25 years of experience, Simon Kenevan has found his vocabulary, via pigment and paper, brush and canvas. Working with pastels, and oils, precious moments are relived through the creative process. Each subsequent painting has its own resonance, unique to each and every viewer. “
I began formal training in the Aerospace industry as a technical illustrator and worked for companies from California to Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. After graduating from Auburn University, I continued to paint while developing representation at galleries.
In 1994 my three brothers and I were juried into Art Expo New York where we met David Leadman and Nancy Marshall of Walls Fine Art Gallery; and with their confidence in my work, they have represented me for over twenty years. This led to acceptance at other galleries and invitations to events such as the Thunderbird Foundation at the Maynard Dixon Ranch, La Quinta Art Festival, Festival, Paint Wilmington Invitational, Greenbrier Fine Art week, and
teaching workshops across the country.” Perry is represented by these galleries: Beverly McNeil Gallery, Germanton Gallery, Stonehenge Gallery, Chirpwood Gallery, and Walls Fine Art at the Greenbrier. MAC-GRYDER GALLERY N E W O R L E A N S, L O U I S I A N A cclaimed southern artist Rolland Golden has earned a place in the canon of American masters alongside notable regionalists Thomas Hart Benton, Grant Wood and Andrew Wyeth.
A
In 1976, Golden was selected to represent American realist painting on a tour of Soviet Russia. During his career, which has spanned six decades, Golden has won dozens of awards and is featured in numerous corporate and museum collections throughout the country. In 2014 Golden received one of the prestigious “Louisiana Legends” awards. The same year, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art mounted an important retrospective of Golden’s work, and several of his paintings were added to their permanent collection. BARBARA DAVIS FINE ART M O N T G O M E R Y, A L A B A M A
Where Do Clouds Go, 12” x 12”, oil
“I paint in oil and, since I love to paint the effect of light, my subject matter is across the board…landscapes, still life, portraits, figures, animals… but I find my heart is always drawn to the skies.”
B
orn and raised in Montgomery, Alabama, Barbara has painted since the age of fourteen. After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Fine Art from Auburn University Montgomery in 1987, she worked primarily in the banking industry while pursuing art as an avocation with the hope of eventually becoming a full-time artist. In 2010 her dream of painting full-time became a reality. Her art has been exhibited in juried competitions across the country with the American Impressionist Society, Oil Painters of America, and Women Painters of the Southeast.
Barbara’s goal is to create, not a photographic realism, but an impression of light incorporating rich color and loose brushwork in her art. Painting a variety of subjects, she seeks light and its effect in every painting. To view more of Barbara’s work or for information on upcoming events and the galleries that represent her visit www.BarbaraDavisArt.com or visit her studio. 42 Art Galleries&Artists of the South

After working as a restaurateur and chef for many years, he decided that this career path was not sustainable. Justin sold his restaurant and began traveling abroad in search of a career that would satisfy his need to be creative and explorative in learning new things. In his travels, He discovered the work of Van Gogh and was fascinated by the paintings, “Starry Night” and “Sunflowers.” Studying these works carefully he discovered that Van Gogh used thousands of small, overlapping, brush strokes to build a cohesive image.
Upon returning home, Justin decided to use what he had learned from Van Gogh in his own version of sunflowers. Fast forward to 2018 and Justin is still exploring floral bouquets and still life imagery in his work. He creates loose expressionistic compositions to complicated and detailed still-life works that include both florals and hints to his culinary past. He doesn’t just spend all of his time in the studio and in recent years he has become involved in using his talents to help local charities such as Food For Thought in teaching young people to cook Fanta Floral, 30” X 30”, acrylic on wood panel healthy meals for themselves and donating paintings to help raise money for the cause to help end child hunger. Justin believes in being involved in the community and using his talents to help however he can. Justin’s work can be seen by visiting the gallery which has an outdoor sculpture garden and gallery and is set on beautiful Fox Lake. His works are also on display throughout the Watercolor Inn, Panama City International Airport, Trebeache Restaurant, Great Southern Cafe, Seaside, Trenasse Restaurant, New Orleans, and Progress Bank of Birmingham, Alabama. MARISOL GULLO S A N T A R O S A B E A C H, F L O R I D A
S
outh Walton 2017 Artist of the Year, Marisol Gullo, owns and operates Not Too Shabby Boutique in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida along with her husband, Tony. There they specialize in restoring custom furniture and is where Marisol’s passion for art took off. Marisol has taken her life experience and built her own, one of a kind aesthetic and vision. Growing up in Costa Rica, she earned her law degree and became a lawyer. She and Tony met in Costa Rica where they decided to get married and move to the United States shortly thereafter. Tony had vacationed in South Walton as a child and brought Marisol to the Gulf Coast during their honeymoon and she immediately fell in love. They promised each other that they would move to the area one day to start their family and sure enough, within a year they packed up and moved to South Walton in 2001. Drawn to the beautiful and peaceful way of life in South Walton, Marisol felt that there could be no place more perfect to raise a family. She and her family love the community and have built a life and a business here. Marisol loves the melting pot feel of the area and loves that so many people have chosen to live here on these beautiful beaches and all realize how special a place South Walton truly is. Believing in following one’s dreams, adapting to any situation, and to challenge yourself both in your personal life and your art is fundamental for Marisol. And, discovering new inspiration is the most rewarding part of her work as an artist. For more information on Marisol;s works visit in person or online at www.marisolgullo.com.

n Alabama native, Melissa Mercer Brown enjoyed oil painting, drawing, watercolor, pottery, ceramics, crocheting and knitting as early hobbies. Creativity was just something she took for granted but didn’t learn to appreciate or embrace until much later in life. Now she lives on Scenic 30A along the emerald coast of south Walton County Florida where the breathtaking landscape and coastline provide a constant source of inspiration. Her style of painting is often using a lot of texture and translucent layering of washes to capture the changing sea and skies. A board member of the Walton County Cultural Arts Alliance, she believes there are unique talents and gifts in each of us so that we can give back, bless and enrich others. Her theory is grounded in the belief that nature is a reflection from heaven and it’s our job to treasure, appreciate and keep it beautiful. Melissa’s art can be found at The Henderson Beach Resort and Spa in Destin, Florida, the Foster Gallery in Miramar Beach, Florida and online at melissamercerbrown.com.

n artist from Alabama, Polli’s first memories as an artist came from her mother’s kitchen as she fervently defended the originality of her drawing to her next-door-neighbor. She was four years old and her neighbor insisted that she had traced the drawing. She heard this story so many times as she grew into her role and thus her calling. She is a graduate from Auburn University with a degree in Design but also attended the Universitat Salzburg in Austria and Heidelberg University in Germany for further art training.
Atlanta was Polli’s home for most of her adult life where she taught art lessons in her home, schools and park systems until she settled in to a new life in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida ten years ago. She believes that God has blessed her with rich experiences and has given her the foundation for so much of what she paints. She paints with a passion and fervency of loss and pain as well as love, happiness, kindness and sacrifice. She paints with the wisdom and knowing of age and hardship that she has learned from every stroke of her life. For more of her works visit www. 30aartiststudios.com.

“
Recently, a client who is new to Beverly McNeil Gallery, mentioned to me how beautiful the gallery is, and all the amazing paintings and sculptures, then said to me that I must really like having a job working around all this beauty. I said to her, “Yes, absolutely I do”. However, that is not exactly true. I do not like my job, I just simply LOVE what I do... I feel that I have been extremely fortunate to have been in the art and art gallery field since 1985. First for 32 years with the now closed, 57 year old Littlehouse Galleries as the Gallery Director and General Manager. And now, since the Summer of 2017, as Fine Art Specialist with Beverly McNeil Gallery in the historic LakeView District of Birmingham, Alabama.
I have also had the pleasure of having had many fine, talented coworkers in the past 3 plus decades - now being associated with preeminent gallery owner, Beverly McNeil and the superb Gallery Director, Brittany Barnes. In addition, having the pleasure of working with many of the most talented artists showing anywhere today, some new to me and others I have known and worked with for years, and some artists who came with me to Beverly McNeil Gallery; Mark Singer, John Lonergan, Barbara Binford Davis, Eric Johnson and others...
John Lonergan

And of course, the many fine clients-countless numbers that I have had the pleasure of assisting for ages, and throughout their families’ generations as well. It is the clients, many who have become close friends, that make me feel the most joy in my profession. Many Clients have commented on the fact that I become as excited, if not more than them, when helping select a new painting for their collection or designing custom framing. Quite often when I am at a client’s home or office and view their collection, I have said that it’s like visiting my children. What Joy! We all hope to see you soon at the Gallery.” -Michael Bradley
