rtist Charlie Bluett has won a large and quickly growing audience in only a few short years. His inspirations range from the rocky landscapes of Vermont to the translucent sea glass he finds along the Atlantic beaches, leading him to create both minimalist landscapes and pure abstractions. The paintings' changing surfaces, vibrant and ethereal color use, and the consistent subtle movement of form are carefully considered, finding a perfect equilibrium within each composition.

noxville based artist Jennifer Austin Jennings creates a realm of atmospheric fantasy with layers of acrylic mediums, washes and textures. inings Gallery is pleased to feature the incredible talent of Michael Flohr and Thomas Arvid during the lovely fall season. Abstract impressionist, Michael Flohr is known for his use of vibrant pigment and multi-dimensional brushstrokes along with intricate palette knife work. Often capturing urban landscapes in his work, Flohr finds beauty in iconic landmarks such as the Eiffel Tour, the Fox Theater and canals of Venice, while he is just as at home on a street corner in New Orleans, or strolling down Canton Street in Roswell, Georgia. Many of his paintings depict a woman with a red dress or red umbrella – a nod to his loving wife, Melissa. Flohr will join the Vinings Gallery family during the weekend of November 2-4 when he will be painting live during show hours.

I began formal training in the Aerospace industry as a technical illustrator and worked for companies from California to Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. After graduating from Auburn University, I continued to paint while developing representation at galleries.
In 1994 my three brothers and I were juried into Art Expo New York where we met David Leadman and Nancy Marshall of Walls Fine Art Gallery; and with their confidence in my work, they have represented me for over twenty years. “His paintings are the reason we got to know Perry Austin. Consistently solid composition, well seen values and color, all leading to a subtle sense of place that radiates the simple joy of being out in the landscape – something too few of us take time to do. Perry painted for us when we were in North Carolina, and now that we’re in West Virginia, he sees paintings he hasn’t painted, yet, everywhere he turns. That’s a really good thing for us because it means we get to see him more often. Perry teaches workshops here – workshops that teach valuable ins and outs of painting while instilling a heart-felt wonder for the world around us. I suspect the classes are just an excuse, though, to get back here to work on painting some of the last unspoiled family farms, streams, and woodlands for which Perry holds such profound respect. Any painting may show us a location, but a great painting allows us to be there. That’s what Perry Austin does. In his paint, we hear the cattle, feel the wind, and see the trout nab the mayfly – or maybe snap the line. illy Solitario is a New Orleans-based artist and the owner of Billy Solitario Fine Art located on Magazine Street in Uptown New Orleans. The gallery features Billy’s original oil paintings and drawings. Billy has lived nearly his entire life near the Gulf of Mexico, spending his childhood in Gauthier, Mississippi. Growing up in the Gulf South has had a large influence on the style and subject matter of his paintings. orn and raised in Montgomery, Alabama, Barbara has painted since the age of fourteen. After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Fine Art from Auburn University Montgomery in 1987, she worked primarily in the banking industry while pursuing art as an avocation with the hope of eventually becoming a full-time artist. In 2010 her dream of painting full-time became a reality. Her art has been exhibited in juried competitions across the country with the American Impressionist Society, Oil Painters of America, and Women Painters of the Southeast.

From a family of artists beginning with her father, she left a career of nursing and healthcare administration to pursue her art 15 years ago. Now her daughter, artist Susan Patton, has left her job as a physical therapist to teach art and paint portraits full time. A full time artist, she paints in plein air and in her 2200 square foot studio in Pontotoc, Mississippi. This year she was chosen for a solo show at the Kate Freeman Clark Museum. MARISOL GULLO GALLERY S A N T A R O S A B E A C H, F L O R I D A outh Walton 2017 Artist of the Year, Marisol Gullo, owns and operates Not Too Shabby Boutique in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida along with her husband, Tony. There they specialize in restoring custom furniture and is where Marisol’s passion for art took off. Marisol has taken her life experience and built her own, one of a kind aesthetic and vision. Growing up in Costa Rica, she earned her law degree and became a lawyer. She and Tony met in Costa Rica where they decided to get married and move to the United States shortly thereafter. Tony had vacationed in South Walton as a child and brought Marisol to the Gulf Coast during their honeymoon and she immediately fell in love. They promised each other that they would move to the area one day to start their family and sure enough, within a year they packed up and moved to South Walton in 2001.

xford Treehouse Gallery is located in beautiful Lafayette County seven miles from the Oxford, Mississippi Square. Walter and Vivian Neill’s vision for the acreage they acquired began with building a blacksmith shop in 2000. Walter then built a painting studio/gallery nestled in the trees (some actually supporting the porches) in 2005 and the chicken palace in 2008 completed the evolution. n Alabama native, Melissa Mercer Brown enjoyed oil painting, drawing, watercolor, pottery, ceramics, crocheting and knitting as early hobbies. Creativity was just something she took for granted but didn’t learn to appreciate or embrace until much later in life. Now she lives on Scenic 30A along the emerald coast of south Walton County Florida where the breathtaking landscape and coastline provide a constant source of inspiration. Her style of painting is often using a lot of texture and translucent layering of washes to capture the changing sea and skies. A board member of the Walton County Cultural Arts Alliance, she believes there are unique talents and gifts in each of us so that we can give back, bless and enrich others. Her theory is grounded in the belief that nature is a reflection from heaven and it’s our job to treasure, appreciate and keep it beautiful. olli Youngbeck’s first memories as an artist came from her mother’s kitchen as she fervently defended the originality of her drawing to her next-door-neighbor. She was four years old and her neighbor insisted that she had traced the drawing. She heard this story so many times as she grew into her role and thus her calling. An Alabama artist, she is a graduate from Auburn University with a degree in Design but also attended the Universitat Salzburg in Austria and Heidelberg University in Germany for further art training.
Atlanta was Polli’s home for most of her adult life where she taught art lessons in her home, schools and park systems until she settled in to a new life in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida ten years ago. She believes that God has blessed her with rich experiences and has given her the foundation for so much of what she paints. She paints with a passion and fervency of loss and pain as well as love, happiness, kindness and sacrifice. “
I was born into a big, footloose family in Long Beach California. We soon moved to Texas, and eight schools and 12 years later I was working as the head cook in a Chinese restaurant, and taking pictures while earning my journalism degree at the University of Arkansas. I worked for more than a decade as a newspaper photographer—a job that let me chase another passion, concert photography. In 1989 I joined the staff of Southern Living Magazine as a senior photographer for Travel. That was so much fun I stayed for almost 25 years, shooting hundreds of features, and logging more than four million frequent flyer miles. Now, as a freelance photographer, I still love creating storytelling images. My years of doing music, food, and travel photography have made me adept at putting people at ease and working in a relaxed, energetic style. Although I’m based in beautiful Birmingham, Alabama, I am always packed and ready for another photographic adventure. When I’m not on the road or on a shoot, you can find me walking our two dogs, cooking dinner or playing Disc Golf.”

he New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) presents Mildred Thompson: Against the Grain, on view starting October 19, 2018, marking the first solo museum presentation of the experimental wood works of the American artist Mildred Thompson (1936-2003) in more than thirty years.The exhibition featuresthree rare early Wood Picturesrecently acquired by NOMA for its permanent collection alongside a selection of Wood Picturesand related prints from the Mildred Thompson Estate and Galerie Lelong & Co, New York that reflect Thompson’s deep commitment to the language of abstraction. “Made during herself-imposed exile in Europe, Thompson’s Wood Picturesare only recently being rediscovered and presented in the United States,” said Susan Taylor, NOMA’s Montine McDaniel Freeman Director.“NOMA is delighted to feature works by Thompson acquired in 2016, reflecting the museum’s commitment to highlightingon under-recognized artistic voices from the American South.” An accomplished painter, sculptor, writer and musician, Thompson began creating her wood assemblages, which she called Wood Pictures, while living in Germany in the early 1960s. Thompson’s abstract work in wood went against the grain of the more representational and overtly political art of her time to offer more subtle reflections on history, memory and place. These sculptural assemblages—which represent a unique contribution to the art of this period—combine found and manipulated wood segments into sophisticated, expressive compositions that blend the traditional categories of painting, sculpture and collage. The exhibition is organized by the New Orleans Museum of Art through the generous support of Galerie Lelong & Co, New York and is co-curated by Katie Pfohl, NOMA’s Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art, and Melissa Messina, Curator of the Mildred Thompson Estate. 70 Art Galleries&Artists of the South

They make it easier than ever to purchase original artwork from top student artists across the country. Every month students at participating universities submit artwork through ArtStartArt who works with curators to handpick the most exciting work from those submissions.
