We now know that the hottest stretch of summer is caused by the earth’s tilt but The Dog Days of Summer, they will remain. Don’t let the Dog Days get you down. There are plenty of ways to beat the heat and stay healthy and civil. A Google search will return list after list of tips for fighting the heat and one that tops most lists is stay inside in the air conditioning! That works for a few days and then we start looking for air conditioned places to go. Stress free, calm environments are the most conducive to chilling out and museums and galleries top the list of venues! Other important tips embrace food; eat cooler things like citrus fruit or frozen fruit, eat spicy things that make you sweat (evaporating sweat cools you down), drink iced drinks with mint, and ice cream!!

Vicki Rees, Tiki Bar

Get wet. Visit a water park, go to the pool, play in a creek or a lake, run through sprinklers, or just take a cold shower. Your main temperature sensor is your neck so applying cool compresses works wonders.

Survive the Dog Days of Summer 311 Gallery

Just for fun, go frozen food shopping, stick your head in the freezer periodically, have a water balloon fight, go ice skating, or try talking into a blowing box fan to hear your inner robot voice!

The Dog Days of Summer are upon us; the time of heat, drought, storms, lethargy, fever, mad dogs, and bad luck.

311 Gallery invites you to stop in and enjoy the air conditioning while strolling through studios of wonderful art. Dine at one of the Warehouse District’s fine restaurants, visit CAM and VAE and go home relaxed. What heat?

The Greek’s and Roman’s astrological system noted that this period of sultry weather coincides with the heliacal (at sunrise) rising of the Dog Star, Sirius. Sirius is the brightest star in the earth’s night sky. Sirius heliacal path is roughly 365 days so it remains relatively constant to the solar year, rising and setting with the sun, beginning on July 23rd. Because of Sirius’s brightness, the Romans believed that it gave off heat and added to the sun’s warmth causing the hottest, muggiest season of the year.

artgallerydirectory.com National gallery guide and museum guide The idea of a gallery directory website is not a new one. Since the 1990s and the beginning of the internet age, people have been creating websites in an attempt to make it easier for art collectors to find art galleries throughout the US and beyond. Although a gallery directory website is a simple concept there are many pitfalls that the vast majority of art directory websites run into that make them almost impossible to use as an art collector.

galleries in an area without having to wade through the tattoo parlors or nail salons that will come up in a google search. Many art gallery directory websites have outdated information or have taken the lazy route and just pulled their list of art galleries straight from from a google search. At artgallerydirectory.com we have spent over a year combing through every art market in the United States and vetting every art gallery so that when users visit the site they know that every art gallery and art museum listed is a place that they are able to visit.

The first issue that I have run into with many art directory websites is the issues of relevant and updated content. There are many times that I have visited an art directory website, looked up my city, and realized that over half of the galleries listed are either closed or are not legitimate art galleries. A big advantage to using an art gallery website instead of a simple google search is that you have a definitive and current list of all the art

artgallerydirectory.com also updates our information and gallery lists every year. Because the art world is fast moving, with new galleries opening and closing every year, it’s important to keep on top of every art market and make sure that the information users access is updated and accurate.

8

The second issue I have frequently run into with online gallery directories is an issue of scope. Many art gallery directory websites only cover a portion of the United States art markets. Even top art publications rarely list galleries outside of the top arts destinations such as New York, LA, and Miami. While a gallery guide of New York art galleries is useful for someone living in New York City, it is not as useful a resource for someone who isn’t able to visit art galleries in New York. artgallerydirectory.com covers both the top arts destinations in the United States as well as the smaller markets throughout the entire country. artgallerydirectory.com has worked for over a year researching markets in every state and making sure that we have included every city and town with an art scene. Although it is important to include the galleries in the top US arts destinations, it is much more useful to have a comprehensive list of every art market and not ignore the smaller, but just as vibrant, art scenes that can be found throughout the United States.

and top art museums are on the forefront of current design trends. However, many online art gallery directories look like they are websites from 1998. The design and aesthetic of the website is outdated. While this may seem like a minor complaint, your brand as a gallery is associated with this website as soon as it is listed on it. It looks much better for a gallery to be featured on a sleek and modern looking website rather than an outdated one that is ugly and hard to navigate. Online art gallery directories are a great tool for any art lover or art collector interested in find, viewing, and learning about art. However it is not simple to make an art gallery directory website that is current and useful to everyone. artgallerydirectory.com has worked tirelessly to create an comprehensive, updated list of every gallery in every art market in the U. S.. artgallerydirectory.com believes that using an incomplete or outdated online gallery directory is worse than not using a directory at all. artgallerydirectory. com has created a nationwide directory and have put the time and effort into making it current and accurate so that we can truly bring art to everyone, everywhere.

The third issue I have found when looking through many gallery directory websites is aesthetics. The art world is tied to the most current aesthetic trends. Top art galleries
