Editor’s Letter
August means another year I’ve been blessed to share this life with humanity. It also marks another year where I have yet to discover that elusive work-life balance that is so regularly a topic for discussion. As I write this issue’s letter, the sun is beginning to rise on the day of the issue release - meaning I have pulled another all nighter to bring this months issue forward on time. It was not my intention to focus on dreams for this issue. This time round we had many contributors and they focused on what mattered to them. I do wonder though, if this is somewhat the spirit of this magazine and if indeed Eternal will be a voice of hope to those in need. Whatever you choose to reflect on this August, I hope it’s a special time filled with revelation. Enjoy the issue. JOSHUA SGARANO

TalaMade is not just another fashion brand. It is clothing that is completely genderless, intended for both men and women, to create an overall androgynous look. Born out of the mind of 21-year-old Sydney- sider, Tala Surace, the TalaMade label exists to provide a narrative that encapsulates the social, subcultural and intellectual factors that shape an individual’s own signature style. Best described as a hybrid of ‘Gothicism and modern-day streetwear,’ TalaMade’s signature style features voluminous silhouettes, immense layering and a monochromatic colour scheme. TalaMade is designed to question the common perception of what fashion is and how it is meant to be utilised, interpreted and altered to suit an individual. It is clothing that serves a purpose and acts as a platform for individuals to express their own norms and ideas. Launching for AW 2019, TalaMade’s debut capsule collection is the ‘100K ZONE.’ The 100K ZONE features 16 pieces designed and made in Sydney, Australia with a uniquely gothic aesthetic – black elongated silhouettes adorned with industrial hardware. Contrasting fabrications (cotton drill, bamboo, linen, acetate, mesh and wool) are combined to create a mix of both tailored and relaxed, oversized athleisure forms. Highly influenced by the works of Yohji Yamamoto, Rick Owens, Alexander McQueen, Gareth Pugh, and Off-White, inspiration for the collection stems from Tala’s idea of creating a dystopic world (the 100K ZONE) where people are trying to ‘fit in’ among people who do not fit in. The 100K ZONE collection is available online at www.talamade.com.au. 9

THE FEAR OF MISSING OUT The Fear Of Missing Out Isn’t it ironic, in a world of social media and more connections than we have ever experienced before in history, we are feeling lonely and more detached than ever. The days of asking questions are over, our lives are plastered all over the internet in their deepest form, even if we keep our posting to a bare minimum. Social media has effected us all in ways we 16
sometimes fail to notice, whether it be increased depression and anxiety, negative body image, unrealistic expectations or even a complete lack of purpose. But the thing I want to talk about today is FOMO- the fear of missing out. This is one of the most interesting effects of social media that I believe is effecting all of us much more than we perceive. How many times have you questioned or second guessed your life just because you
“and look at you, you have so much meaning”
saw someone on social media achieving more or doing better than you? How many times have you compared your life to someone else’s and decided you are a big, messy failure? My guess is a lot more than once. In fact, it’s a daily occurance in many of our lives, and some of us don’t even begin to realise. More and more people are looking at the success of others and making a heated decision that what they once thought was a fullfilled life, is now not. A 9-5 job is no longer good enough because
Becky from Newcastle now works from home and makes triple what you make, a job is hospitality is just not going to cut it because Sarah from The Gold Coast now earns money through social media and quit her day job to become an influencer, or that apprenticeship you just started is a flop because Tom from Perth started up his own nutrition business and is now more successful than you will ever be. All of these acheivements are inspiring, but why do we suddenly feel an incredible urge to keep up 17
Now I’m not saying go and delete your instagram, live a life you hate and pretend no one around you is doing great things, but perhaps practice rewiring your brain to be inspired by other people’s success, proud of your friends for achieving great things, and maybe even practicing more gratitude and appreciation for your not so glamourous- but equally awesomelife. Because your life IS awesome, and if you stop for just a minute to look at what you’ve achieved and who you’ve become, you might just be a little bit proud of yourself.
and compete with literally anyone doing what we perceive as “better than us?” Why is a regular job so mediocre to us now that we are exposed to a world of successful people appearing to have the lives of our dreams- travel, spare time, luxurious possessions and a fancy social media profile to prove itwhen realisticly we’d be happy with our lives if we just didn’t see other people’s success at all? Social media has literally wired us into FOMO, and theres no escaping it. We are training ourselves to be unhappy with ourselves and our lives, even when yesterday we were so content with what we had and what we were doing. We are exposed to the absolute best bits of everyone’s lives through social media, but the reality is, social media forgets to show us the stress, the hard work, the lack of motivation, the doubt and the stuggle that we all face every day, no matter who we are or what we do. This leads us to feelings of failure, lack of motivation and purpose, and just a basic dissatisfaction with ourselves, when in reality we are all struggling, and none of our lives are anywhere near perfect or ‘insta-worthy’.
“PRACTICE REWIRING YOUR BRAIN TO BE INSPIRED BY OTHER PEOPLE’S SUCCESS PROUD OF YOUR FRIENDS FOR ACHIEVING GREAT THINGS AND MAYBE EVEN PRACTICING MORE GRATITUDE AND APPRECIATION”

We are a boutique store stocking unique ladies jeans and pants along with hand made shoes from Colombia and Costa Rica. Moda latina Cares about being individual and slightly different stocking unique styles in limited quantities to ensure our clients remain as individual as we are
Take up has been slow, people knowing where we are and what we are has been a challenge but the greatest challenge is the perception that you have to be perfect. Let’s be real!!! We are all perfect in different ways and we have styles for every woman, and they will make you feel great.
My wife Paula has always had a love of fashion and being in Australia for over 8 years, identified that there was nothing available to the public like moda latina has. So a small corner shop was set up and moda latina was born.
What we love most about our clohting is the INDIVIDUALISM. The shoes, jeans and one pieces are not available anywhere else in Australia. The journey has just been to survive, but we are dedicated to our brand, and with passion and persistence the journey has yet to really start. It’s more been about self discovery and learning about the business that has kept us here. Now we want to share it with everyone.
There are so many jeans and leggings out there that are all the same or promise the world. These jeans are strong, but comfortable, they are the favourite pair that you can still wear out in public years after you purchase them.

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW come and play at. Seeing these big named famous djs playing on stage and how they would control the crowd through music, it’s was as if they were like gods up there, I really idolised their music and their lifestyle. Then a couple of my friends had taken a step further and bought some decks to mix on at home and from there my love and admiration for the craft quickly turned into an eagerness to learn.
Ruby, having personally worked in the entertainment industry, I have found it to be primarily male orientated. Can I ask firstly, what inspired you to become a DJ? And how do you see yourself as a influencer in this space for up and coming or young women wanting to get involved in this industry?
I agree, the industry has been primarily male orientated in the past. However, I am starting to see a shift in that with more and more women becoming interested and more involved in the industry these days, not only as djs/producers but as promoters and event organisers as well.
It’s pretty humbling to think that I might influence or be idolised by some the same way my idols influence me. For the people who follow my journey and are influenced by it I want to thank you, I am so greatfull for all the love & support and if you are looking to get involved in the industry I would offer this piece of advise for you - Change your mindset
I was first introduced to EDM through festivals such as stereosonic and future music festival and fell in love with not only the music but the atmosphere, the people & the rave culture. I had also frequented a local Gold Coast nightclub PLATINUM, which consistently had big acts from all over the world
Change it from “I wish I could do that, be that” to “Well why can’t I do that, be that” and just go for it! Take initiative. Remember all 27
“SUCCESS IS ON THE SAME ROAD AS FAILURE; SUCCESS IS JUST A LITTLE FURTHER DOWN THE ROAD ” the people you idolise they were all once in the very position you are now. Everyone has to start somewhere.
myself sometimes, knowing that this is happening I’m actually in another county right now and this is my show, it’s really surreal. I definitely still have so many more places, events & festivals all around the world that I would love to tour to and play at. I am forever grateful for DJ-ing, not only do I get to share my love for music all around the world but it has allowed me to travel and see so many places that I have never been to before and meet so many incredible like minded people from all walks of life, all untied by the same passion, music and that’s pretty amazing.
I find your story so interesting, because as I understand it, you’re career in DJing has brought you some pretty incredible travel opportunities recently; can you tell us, was this one of the long term goals for your career, or did you happen to stubble into it? It’s always been the dream to be able to travel the world doing what you love right? and since signing with renowned Australian agency Lucky Entertainment back in November 2018, things have really taken off. I’ve been lucky enough (pun intended) to tour all around Australia and internationally, travelling to New Zealand where I played my first international festival ‘ODESSEY’, I’ve played an insane 3 story club in Bali, Indonesia called Lxxy, I’ve also played on a rooftop/ balcony overlooking the crowd at the Taj Whitefield for a NYE event in India and just recently played at ELE Tokyo in Japan which has been absolutely incredible. Massive achievements in themselves and I have to pinch 28
It really resonated with me and it couldn’t be more true as there had been times where it was tough, struggling to get consistent DJ work as well as working full time at a day job, doubting myself that maybe I wouldn’t get anywhere and when throwing in the towel seemed like a much easier option. Looking back now and seeing how far I’ve come, the incredible opportunities I’ve had, the places I’ve toured and all I’ve achieved so far, I am so glad I didn’t give up, as none of that would have come to fruition if I had.
Having overcome the challenges of an alternate lifestyle and the struggles you’ve had along the way, what are some of the tips you would suggest to women wanting to break into the entertainment industry while maintaining who they are as an individual? It can be challenging at times trying to break into the industry but if music is really what you are passionate about then keep pushing, be persistent and don’t give up. I read a quote once which said “success is on the same road as failure; success is just a little further down the road”

STREET GRIT
12
months ago I visualised shooting Bella Rose on the streets of Sydney. I never imagined, it would be a fusion between my favourite styles in the photogrophy spectrum - street, portaiture and fashion photography.
31
REMEMBER TO FOLLOW THROUGH ON YOUR DREAMS EVERY COMPLETION IS LIKE PUTTING ANOTHER PIECE IN THE PUZZLE
Armed with a dodgy Minolta lens from the 80’s, I set out to create a series of images that embodied the raw grit of the street, while capturing the grace and beauty of the female form through portraiture. Focusing proved to be difficult due to shooting at f1.7 and the lens being completly manual, as a result most of the images are slightly out of focus - I personally love that though, it reminds me on the images from the 80’s where nothing was quite in focus.
THE PUZZLE IS ONLY A MAP YOU CAN STILL LOSE YOUR WAY IF YOU NEVER COMPLETE YOUR PUZZLE YOU WILL NEVER HAVE YOUR MAP
32
Street photography has been a passion for the 3 years I’ve been shooting now. I started on the streets of North Adelaide, SA. Although my style and vision of how I capture an image has drastically changed, the fundamentals remain the same and it doesn’t matter how far I try to stray, I always find myself capturing people in their everyday lives. There’s something beautiful and raw about an authentic image, especially for myself, as I spend most of my time posing a subject(s) to create a story.
It’s very important to stay true to who you are as an artist, especially in the early days. So many people these days try to force something, or choose to follow a trend based on popularity, I mean we’re all guilty of that as some point if we’re being completly honest with ourselves. It takes grit to be who you are in today’s world and I think that’s what I love most about the street, it’s honest, there are no filters and everyone is too busy to be concerned with what others think.

BY CHELSEA BARDAN From a young age, I’ve had a passion for beauty. I studied a Certificate II in Beauty Therapy, where I was trained in various aspects of the Beauty Industry.
Growing up I was heavliy influenced by my older sister who is an Australain Beauty blogger and a role model of mine. Her love for all things beauty pushed me to have such an interest. Coming from a small country town, it can prove challenging to get the reach for your work and name in this industry. Instagram has helped me overcome this challenge, providing reach to anyone, anywhere in the world. You can find my work on instagram @muabychelseabardan and my sister’s beauty blog’s instagram @thebeautyandthegeek.

NEVER TOO LATE
My name is Angela Clark; I’m a Russian born, living in Australia for more than 15 years. I moved to Australia to find a better place to live for myself and my two boys. I like music, dancing, cooking, working out and deep, meaningful conversations. My journey wasn’t easy, and I am thankful to where I am now: loving wife, daughter, mother, grandmother and yours Mrs Australia Universal Elegance 2019. I am a woman who works hard to follow her dreams and I was always looking to express myself with my passion to the modelling and fashion. As a young girl, I always dreamed of modelling. I was 16 when I married. Many years of my life were sacrificed for my family, leaving the modelling world behind. My children grew up and I had some free time for myself, I decided to start this new career. Maybe it wasn’t my time then, but I’m sure it is now! Women dreaming of gracing the cover of fashion magazines don’t have to give up their dreams just because they’ve left their twenties behind. If you’re still upset because you weren’t discovered as a model, never fear the modelling world is still open to women of all ages, even those over the age of fifty.

NEVER NEVER TOO TOOLATE LATE
37
My modelling journey started by chance. A friend of mine asked to model for one of her projects. I was confused and scared as I didn’t have any past experience. After my second and third time modelling, I realized that the photoshoots really helped me to grow my personality, confidence and get my dream back. The more I did the more I wanted, I had a “hunger” for having photoshoots. I don’t set any goals, just follow the journey. Just about 2 years ago I thought that I’m too old to be a model and after all my shoots I had and being persistent with my dream, my work has been published in a few International Magazines, such as Elegant, Faddy, Salyse, London Runway etc… One of my resent works have been featured on the main page of Vogue Italia’s website. I won the title of Mrs Australia Universal Elegance 2019 and have walked for a few runway fashion shows. At present I am working on 4 designers photoshoot projects and planning to print 4 photobooks. One of them has been printed 2 weeks ago. I would like to thank you my family, friends, supporters and all photographers, designers, hairstylists and mua’s I’ve had the pleasure to work with. Without you, I would not have achieved any of this. My special thank you to Sam Singh ( FotoVogue) , who has supported my journey into the world of fashion modelling, who saw something unique in me and believed in me. He is the photographer behind all the photos of me in this magazine and many of my magazine publications. His dedication to the art of fashion photography and the pursuit of creating an art work with me is truly inspiring.
To all my friends and supporters on the Social Media, thank you for all your support and help over the years, you have made this journey, a wonderful one.
