CREDITS The professional works selected here are all from Francisco Hue Arquitetura, where I have worked for almost 4 years doing mainly CAD drawings, 3D modeling, documentation, client presentations, etc. The renderings, photos and image post-production presented here are acredited to various members of the studio. It is very difficult and counter productive to precise exactly which part of which drawing or model I have worked on, since every part of their project is based on team work, but I can say that every content in this part of the portfolio, except from the images, has been made, altered or further detailed by me.
Private townhouse (restoration) 2016-2017
Horto, Rio de Janeiro Internship at Francisco Hue Arquitetura The clients were a couple and their son. They are very interested in art and design, having friends over and enjoying their sun-bathed terrace. They bought this lot which at that time was in ruins and checked out their neighbours for projects from architects that had experience with this specific townhouse typology. Historically this neighbourhood was constructed for factory workers and Francisco Hue had already completed around nine projects in the area, some even published in sites like Archdaily and brazilian magazines. The sobrados in the area are listed as historical heritage by IPHAN and had to follow a set of rules to maintain the building’s original volume and facade. Francisco’s plan was to expose the original stone and masonry wall in the main building, juxtapose a new back building annexed to the main one to expand its functions while creating an open patio in between them and connecting the floors through this magnificent seamless set of stairs. From the attention to details to the bespoke contemporary architecture, everything in this project, as with every project from the studio, was tailored to the clients very individual tastes.

Private country house 2015-2016
Secretário, Petrópolis Internship at Francisco Hue Arquitetura This project’s client wanted a family home for when they decided to retire and enjoy their days in Secretário’s mountainous region. This house was built in two levels, always conforming to the topography and overlooking the astounding views from every room. The materials and orientation, the windows and sun protection strategies make the house cool in hot days and warm in cold ones. The building is inserted into nature and absorbs it making it a part of itself, rather than distancing from it. It also features everything a family could need to unwind and entertain, like the pool and sauna areas, game rooms, movie room, expandable living room, outdoors spaces, etc.
This project won the III AsBEA/RJ prize for single-family residence in 2018.

Art Gallery (restoration) 2017-2018
Horto, Rio de Janeiro Internship at Francisco Hue Arquitetura The client wanted to restore to life this damaged chalet from 1881 in the heart of Rio’s South Zone and turn it into her photography gallery. This building was also listed and protected by IPHAN as historical heritage and had to remain true to its original external historical style. The programme included office spaces, photography and art exhibition spaces, a photography studio, room for vernissages and a kitchen to service the events. Francisco’s respectful approach to historical buildings and his taste for a fresh contemporary architecture both unite to breathe new life into this building. He opted to expand the gallery part of the programme in the building’s main room to the underground, and locate the office space in the upper floor, while keeping it connected through a mezzanine overlooking the exhibition space. Light pours from sky windows in the roof and on the floor to the undergound level. The gardens were recovered, as well as the contact with the Rainha river on the back of the lot. A pool was also inserted in the gardens, in accordance with the building’s “bath house aura”.

Santo Inรกcio School (new buildings and traffic system) 2016-2018
Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro Internship at Francisco Hue Arquitetura The project for Santo Inรกcio School included the remodeling of the traffic system for cars, pedestrians and school buses as well as two new buildings, one operational with the new vertical circulation and services, and the second one an elevated auditorium with an adjoining new sports field and rooftop space for events. Materials, metalic structure and facade panels differentiate the new buildings from the preexisting ones. The Viroc facade panels act like a second skin to the buildings, which will help protect the buildings from external heat from insulation.

Petrópolis Faculty of Medicine Campus 2010-ongoing
Petrópolis Internship at Francisco Hue Arquitetura This private faculty’s campus was originally designed and constructed by Francisco’s father Jorge Hue, also a renowned architect, and the family who owns and manages it trusted Francisco to design a series of expansions and new buildings. Among these new buildings there is the main one shown here which houses a gym, an auditorium, a pool, various classrooms, simulation rooms, receptions and staff room. Since Petrópolis is a mountainous region and the campus is located in a series of slopes, this building was designed to accomodate the different levels of the topography and connect to the rest of the campus via entrances on different floors. There are ramps, elevators and toilets for people with disabilities throughout the building and campus. The roofing of the gym is held by huge timber beams that allow for the breezes and luminosity to fill it gently, while terraced gardens and brise-soleils protect the rest of the building from excessive sun light and heat. Aa of July 2018 the project is still ongoing with the pool area under construction.

Parque Lage School of Art facilities renovation and new buildings (historic palace and grounds renovation and landscape project 2012-ongoing
Jardim Botânico, Rio de Janeiro Internship at Francisco Hue Arquitetura Located in the heart of Jardim Botânico, the Parque Lage is one of the most important historical places in Rio as well as one of the most visited tourist locations. Again the site is listed and protected as historical heritage. It lodges the School of Art, an institution that offers art courses, promotes exhibitions and holds art related events. This is an on going project paralyzed as a result of Rio’s financial issues. Due to the magnitude and complexity of this project, Francisco Hue Arquitetura has the responsibility not only to design the project per se, but also to oversee and manage every other team working in different parts of the project such as landscape and gardens, evaluation and restoration of damaged buildings, structural works, electric, water and plumbing works, new buildings constructions, etc. There are new buildings like bathroom and support pads, ICMBio’s administration, pergolas and the main elevator and stairs in the back of the palace as well as the renovation of old ones, such as the palace, the stables, the laundry cave-like room and the guard’s house. This venue also hosted the British team during the last Rio Olympic Games.
