“we're all right here…” by Bence Bakonyi (Hong Kong, 2017) Hungarian photographer Bence Bakonyi returns to Artify Gallery three years after The Presence, his inaugural exhibition in Asia. The upcoming solo show we're all right here… features an exciting new series of photographs documenting asphalt surfaces in small villages around Central and Eastern Europe, bearing the marks of human activities on them. The exhibition runs from 16 March to 13 May 2017. “Asphalt tells stories. It records people’s actions and activities honestly,” said Bakonyi, who has taken a two-year road trip in search of asphalt imprints. With a camera fixated on the roof of his car and controlled from his laptop, Bakonyi drove through cobwebs of villages in Hungary, Ukraine, Slovakia, Austria and beyond, documenting asphalt surfaces he found of interest. His creative process has invited many candid conversations from villagers passing by, resulting in a wealth of oral narratives about the landscape, as vivid as those fossilized on the asphalt itself. Born and raised in a small village at the outskirt of Hungary, Bakonyi is drawn to the humble lifestyle of the sparsely populated Eastern European villages. Through observing the often forgotten asphalt, Bakonyi presents a social reality from a local perspective. Departing from the intense introspection in his first show The Presence, we're all right here… demonstrates a genuine interest in the social evolvement of places close to the artist’s heart. Together, the exhibitions speak of an expanding scope of artistic interest in Bakonyi’s oeuvre.

《我們還可以吧…》 Bence Bakonyi (香港, 2017) 匈牙利攝影師 Bence Bakonyi 繼三年前於 Artify Gallery 舉辦首個個展《The Presence 》 後，將於2017 年 3 月 16 到 5 月13 日第二度來港，舉行《 we're all right here… 》攝影展，新作展 示攝影師於中歐及東歐各地紀錄的瀝青表面，上面的人文活動印痕清晰可見。 “瀝青會說故事，人的行為與活動在其表面一覽無遺。”Bakonyi如是說。為了創作本系列作品， 藝術家用了兩年時間駕車遊走歐洲各地，尋找印有獨特故事的瀝青表面。Bokonyi把相機固定在車 頂，以手提電腦控制攝影，穿梭於匈牙利、烏克蘭、斯洛佛克、奧地利及其他國度，攝錄趣味孟然 的瀝青表面。他的創作引發很多村民的好奇，主動與他對話交流，讓藝術家意外知道了這些村落的 故事，在攝影作品以外產生了一套口述地景歷史。 Bakonyi生於匈牙利外圍一條小村莊，深受東歐人煙稀少的村落吸引，並欣賞當地簡樸謙厚的民風 。透過觀察這些被遺忘的瀝青表面，Bakonyi 從本土角度出發，了解這些地方的故事。與他第一個 內觀的展覽“The Presence” 的相比，”we're all right here”把眼光放在外在社會實情上，見證藝 術家的創作心路演進過程。

about Bence Bakonyi Born and bred in Budapest, Hungary, Bence Bakonyi is a photography graduate of Maholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest. Concerned with the metaphysical questions of human existence, Bakonyi’s works are characterized by stark contrasts and pictorial dramas that bridge the real and the fantastical. Recent solo and group exhibitions include Photo Offart fair, Paris; Xuhui Art Museum, Shanghai; Athens Art Festival, Athens; FID Design Festival, Costa Rica; X6 Photo Edition Gallery, LUMAS, Budapest, M17 Contemporary Art Center, Kiev (all 2013); Várfok Gallery, Budapest (2014), Tesla Budapest, Budapest (2016) and Artify Gallery, Hong Kong (2017). His work has also been featured in ELLE Hungary, MASHABLE New York among others.
藝術家Bence Bakonyi簡介 Bence Bakonyi，生於匈牙利布達佩斯，畢業於布達佩斯的Moholy-Nagy藝術設計大學 ，主修攝影 。Bence Bakonyi喜歡透過藝術創作探討人類存在等哲學問題，他的作品以強烈視覺對比、充滿戲 劇性、真假難分的圖像見稱。最近的個人和聯合展覽包括：巴黎的Photo Off art fair；上海的徐匯 藝術館；雅典的Athens Art Festival；哥斯達黎加的FID Design Festival；布達佩斯X6 Photo Edition Gallery的LUMAS；基輔的M17 Contemporary Art Center（全在2013年）。他的作品也曾於ELLE Hungary和MASHABLE New York 等地展出。
